Timlin Deal Finalized; NESN DVD Due

Mike Timlin's $3 million contract for next season was finalized. After a rough start in 2007 and a five-week stint on the disabled list, Timlin returned in mid-June and finished strong.

After June 26, Timlin made 34 appearances (38.2 innings) and had a slim 2.09 ERA. He did not allow a run in 31 of those 34 appearances -- and allowed only three of 21 inherited runners to score. Opponents "hit" .177/.243/.246.

In addition to the 2007 World Series DVD box set (out next week), NESN is releasing "Champions Again: The Story of the 2007 Boston Red Sox". According to the Globe:
In addition to the 80 minutes of baseball content, there are bonus features such as the best of broadcasters Jerry Remy and Don Orsillo, the entire ninth inning of Clay Buchholz's no-hitter against the Baltimore Orioles Sept. 1, and NESN's trip with closer Jonathan Papelbon during a moose hunt.
The Red Sox announced their spring schedule. ... Coco Crisp does not see himself as a fourth outfielder next season. His agent says having Ococ "looking over his shoulder at (Jacoby) Ellsbury would be unacceptable." ... Eric Gagne may be close to signing what the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel says could be a $10 million deal for next season.

  1. So, do we change his nickname? ;)

I still would like to see another brendan donnely-esque signing. Some sort of RH relief to make sure MDC doesn't explode, 7-8th inning capable...

  2. I may have to put "White Flag" in storage for a bit (Jere will approve). However, when speaking to him via my TV, I shall still refer to him as "you neo-con".

    Re Donnelly, the Globe:

"The Sox are working out a deal to bring back reliever Brendan Donnelly, whose season was cut short by Tommy John surgery in August. Donnelly likely will sign a multiyear pact, given that pitchers normally take 12 months to recover from such surgery and the return on a one-year deal would be minimal."

A couple of SoSHers think this may be a partial thank you to BD for keeping quiet about his injury until last year's trading deadline had passed.

So maybe he'll be back in September 2008?

  4. That would be a nice boost, but I'm not expecting much, if anything.
As for the thank-you, I suppose it could be...but it's hardly like BD would've wanted to say anything...just harming his chances at a ring and a bonus...

"you neo-con" works...what if timlin relieves shill? :P

  5. I know there's no love lost in the Nation for Gagne, but I'm sorry to see he won't have a chance to re-work his Boston image. Leaving this team now he'll always be Gagme. Best of luck to him in Milwaukee because he sure wasn't having it here.
