G7: Blue Jays 7, Red Sox 4

Red Sox - 001 010 110 - 4 10 4
Blue Jays - 000 241 00x - 7 5 0
And so the road trip ends.

Beckett was very sharp early on. Ellsbury bopped a solo homer in the second to give the Sox a 1-0 lead. Beckett walked Rios to start the fourth and Wells followed with a home run. But Varitek came back with a solo shot in the fifth to tie the game at 2-2.

Beckett retired the first two Jays in the fifth, but gave up a little flair to left to Hill, who stole second. After Rios worked an eight-pitch walk, Beckett passed Wells on four straight. In came Delcarmen -- whose first pitch was clubbed to deep left center by Thomas for a grand slam.

Down by three in the 9th, the Sox rallied. Lowell reached on an infield single and with one out, Varitek lined a hit to right center. Ellsbury lined a 1-2 pitch just foul down the left field line before striking out. With two outs, it could have been redemption time for Lugo -- who committed three errors -- but he lofted a routine fly to center to complete the Toronto sweep.

Josh Beckett (145 ERA+, 2007) / Roy Halladay (103 ERA+)

Beckett returns. Yesterday, it was reported that "the back spasm that forced [Beckett] out of his March 8 spring training start in Fort Myers had its origins in the hip area."

Beckett:
After the first week, my back really responded to the treatment, and once we got rid of the back spasms, basically what we had to do was just strengthen my hip. That's kind of where the problem lied. I think the back spasms were just more of protecting my hip. ...

Once we got the hip to where I could throw every day, throw bullpens, then it was just getting into games and building up.
Halladay lost to the Yankees on April 1 in his first start, allowing seven hits and three runs in seven innings.

  2. I'll miss the game today because of stupid training at stupid work. I predict a win, with LBJ figuring in.

(I'll predict this every day, but no matter.)

    Enjoy!

  3. Audio did not work on my computer yesterday. Had to go to another desk. Today, it works. Whatever.

Isn't this a national TBS game? Doesn't that mean it's an off-day for BuffyVision? So why is MLBTV saying the game is blacked out? Presumably, I CANNOT watch it the local Toronto broadcast, since there isn't one. So gimme the goddamn game!

Either I am wrong -- and Buffy is working -- or MLB is fucking up again.

    ReplyDelete
  4. lets go beckett. lets start that 20 game win season today.

    ReplyDelete
  5. Shields/Wang at the Toilet, also at 1.

    ReplyDelete
  6. i was pretty confused as to why i was not able to the sox yesterday. it wasnt a fox game correct? and direct-tv blacked it out...it makes no fucking sense.
i hope this isnt a continuous problem for saturday games...ugh!

    ReplyDelete
  7. lasershow with an infield hit!
    GOOD AB!

    ReplyDelete
  8. before yesterday's game they tell us how the Sox have made no errors all season. The next two games we make an error on the first batter of the game.

DP makes up for it. Nice. Not as pissed as I was ten seconds ago.

  9. I've got in on NESN, and TBS is a black screen here in the Boston whatever-you call-it area.

    ReplyDelete
  10. you know who never gets mentioned on the list of overpaid, overrated players?

    vernon wells.

    very overpaid.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Blue Jay dipshit fan yells "overrated" to the man at the plate with his FIVE HUNDRED home runs.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Who caught Thomas's pop: FY or OF?

    ReplyDelete
  13. Thanks. Wasn't paying attention to the radio, thought they said Pedroia, but CBS has Drew.

Beckett sounds good. I was a little worried about today since he had been facing minor leaguers only.

    ReplyDelete
  14. BTW, thanks to Jere's tip last night I bought 2 tix to the Sox/Yankees game next sunday night. Now I have to convince my yankees-loving friend he's not any more busy than me and we should go together.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Jacoby one-fifth of the way to my predicted five-dong day!

    ReplyDelete
  16. LB fuckin' J!

    I feel for crispy.

    ReplyDelete
  17. LBJ vs. the doc 4-4 w/ 2 HRs.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Laura has probably always wanted to see what LBJ's dong would look like sailing through the air...but haven't we all?

    ReplyDelete
  19. Nick, glad I could help. Amy--we'll get you tickets next! I'm going to two Yankee games next weekend at Fenway, face value. They released 'em last night.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I thought it best to save the dong talk to one of you guys. :>)

    ReplyDelete
  21. Tito's like, That's it, Ellsbury, you're batting ninth tomorrow!

    ReplyDelete
  22. dang, that was a close one! from the comfort of my couch I'd've called a K.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I thought it best to save the dong talk to one of you guys.

In life, one enjoys being of some use to his fellow human beings.

    ReplyDelete
  24. CBS: "Ortiz grounded out to pitcher."

    WTF?

    ReplyDelete
  25. obrien says that eckstein will become a big fan favorite with jays fans.

what he doesn't know is that mcdonald is a HUGE fan favorite. it defies all logic. THEY LOVE HIM.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I guess the ball was kind of near the mound on that grounder by Ortiz.... terrible job by CBS

    ReplyDelete
  27. and mcdonald's fielding is so good, the jays are probably hurting themselves by going with gritty mcgritstein.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Yanks let scoring opportunity slip away in the third -- Betemit thrown out at third on Milk Dud's single. MD makes it to third with two outs and Jeter grounds out after a long at bat.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I got to the game too late to see Lowell's error. what form did it take?

    ReplyDelete
  30. shut up with the fucking college sports, castig.

    ReplyDelete
  31. i say the Devils break through against Wang in the fourth.

(I'm taking out Rays and leaving just the other part.)

    ReplyDelete
  32. so tampa will pleasure itself by slapping wang around?

    ReplyDelete
  33. oh, you mean what did he actually do? he missed a grounder, right under the glove, went for a short hop on a high hopper he had to charge.

    ReplyDelete
  34. 42 pitches for beckett thru 3.

    16-13-13

    ReplyDelete
  35. I was calling 'em the Devils last night at work. Talking to a friend at work last night who was amazed at the idiocy of that, yet Cleveland still has the Indians. glad we have perspective in this country.

    ReplyDelete
  36. BJ Upton will take some strokes with the wood against wang. Don't blow it!

    ReplyDelete
  37. When do you think Girardi will yank his Wang?

    ReplyDelete
  38. the possibilities are nearly endless.

when they first signed wang and he was in the low minors, there was a sosh thread that went on forever -- it was epic.

    ReplyDelete
  39. base on balls for bj. Come on, cliFFFloyd.

    ReplyDelete
  40. still a NO HITTER for Wang thru 3.5

    ReplyDelete
  41. Wangs actually strokin' some strikeouts today. Scary.

    ReplyDelete
  42. thanks for the descrip on that, jere.

    Oh good, a strike.

    ReplyDelete
  43. i hear wang learned how to pitch from dick pole.

    ReplyDelete
  44. da fuck!

so down there we got a bunch of devils waving their wood and some wang making them look like nothing.

    ReplyDelete
  45. take that, shitty blue jays fans. fuck 'em.

    ReplyDelete
  46. I was fooled by that one. Cursing and oh look.

    ReplyDelete
  47. nothing like making 412 Jays fans shut up.

    ReplyDelete
  48. how do you rate that catch, idiot jays fans?

    ReplyDelete
  49. Shemp with a 2-run dong. Shit.

    ReplyDelete
  50. G'dammit. what's with these guys?

Paul Molitor. When I was a youngster the Brewers were my main team.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Good afternoon, all - just got in. I hear Jacoby got a dinger. What happened to put TOR on top?

    ReplyDelete
  52. cool, someone who thinks of Molitor as a Brewer... Cooper, Ogilvie, Thomas, Gantner, Yount. Those will always be the Brewers to me.

(Although watching the '75 Series Game 2 last night I realize some people think of some of those guys as Red Sox...)

    ReplyDelete
  53. o'brien going on and on (and on) about how great pitching wins are (beckett has one more than johan over the last 3 years). moron.

    ReplyDelete
  54. a rios walk and a wells dong to start this inning.

    ReplyDelete
  55. O'Brien is such a generalist, I think, that he can't endear himself to any particular audience. I kind of like him, but he gets on my nerves.

    ReplyDelete
  56. he seems fine, but the lack of common sense from announcers is completely mind-boggling.

then again, they also talk about a team's winning percentage with player x in the lineup. which is even stupider than judging a pitcher by his w-l record.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Just woke up in time for the fouth. A bad one. Sigh.

    Come on guys, BUST OUT!!!

    ReplyDelete
  58. ok -- a little tek and tacoby action!

    ReplyDelete
  59. hey hey -- both of the boys are dongin' today!

    ReplyDelete
  60. People were placing bets on how many strikeouts Tek would have this year, after the series in Tokyo.

Since then he's dropping dongs on the regular and throwing guys out at second. PSHHAW

    ReplyDelete
  61. Just stopped in on a break. Zen is right, I'm sorry I missed LBJ's dong. But glad to know he has one.

    ....

As we all are, of course.

Go Sox! Now back to stupid training

    ReplyDelete
  62. whoop!

I gotta say Tek's jog was not smooth looking, kinda jerky.

    ReplyDelete
  63. When DOB did pbp for the soccer World Cup, people were calling for him to be tarred and feathered, as he clearly lacked knowledge of the game. Still, he seemed to have passion.

I sort of disliked him before I saw a feature on him on some show (Red Sox Report, maybe?). I was impressed with how much he just loves sports in general, and knows at least a little bit about almost everything. Now that he's specializing on the Sox mostly, I think he'll get better and better.

    ReplyDelete
  64. the thing i harp on o'brien for is that in 2006 he was STILL ragging on manny for his watching of his dong in oakland way back in 2003.

i assume he has to tone down his mums to call the sox games.

    ReplyDelete
  65. I'm getting worried about the BJs this year.

    ReplyDelete
  66. I-bar breaks up Wang's no-hitter! I bent my Wookie!

    ReplyDelete
  67. I'm getting worried about the BJs this year.

don't. they'll be battling the devils for 3rd place.

    ReplyDelete
  68. of course they will. When the sox get your predicted 104Ws.

    ReplyDelete
  69. ... or battling the devils for second place.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Robinson Cano, as primitive as can E, first and third one out Devils.

    ReplyDelete
  71. every year people think the jays will challenge the sox and mfy. and every year, they show they are a .500 club. they haven't done anything to better the team significantly from last year.

bos and ny would have to really falter for the east to be three-team battle.

    ReplyDelete
  72. Aybar caught stealing home?!?!

    ReplyDelete
  73. Who's coming in next inning? Lips?

    ReplyDelete
  74. maybe a squeeze gone awry....

    ReplyDelete
  75. lips went 2.1 IP and threw 30 pitches yesterday, so he's probably out.

    ReplyDelete
  76. HAHA, although you're overlooking the acquisition of the omnipotent David Eckstein. WS MVP David Eckstein. Heaven help us.

    ReplyDelete
  77. Yeah, I missed yesterday's game I went to take a cat nap at noon and wound up sleeping until 3:30 by accident. It turned out to be a good thing, I think.

    ReplyDelete
  78. I missed yesterdays game too. thank goodness.

    ReplyDelete
  79. I find Buck Martinez knows what he is talking about and that is the only thing that makes his voice bearable.

    ReplyDelete
  80. castig has no idea what "moneyball" means.

it's only the most important baseball book in decades -- why not know what it says?

    ReplyDelete
  81. I give him a pass, he's like 83 years old, and he's everyone's lovable ole' uncle. At least he doesn't say a bunch of annoying ignorant things.

    ReplyDelete
  82. I do miss the Trupe/Castig back and forth banter, especially during blowout games.

    ReplyDelete
  83. the only thing that makes his voice bearable.

the only thing that would make his voice bearable to me is if i was paid $25 per syllable he spoke.

    ReplyDelete
  84. are you listening on gameday audio allan? how much of a delay do you have?

    ReplyDelete
  85. Time for redemption dear Beckett!

    ReplyDelete
  86. following along with cbs updates, it is usually 1 or 2 pitches ahead of the radio. very rarely does it get caught up.

    ReplyDelete
  87. Is jere the only legitimate announcer accepted on this site?

    ReplyDelete
  88. i put through the first tek dong comment and heard the pitch before the dong on the radio.

    ReplyDelete
  89. MDC MDC MDC! Don't throw Thomas that 81mph change up, PLEASE!

    ReplyDelete
  90. Suckkkkks. Josh doesnt want to go.

    ReplyDelete
  91. eek, that would aggravate me to no end.

    ReplyDelete
  92. time for mdc and his goatee of terror.

    ReplyDelete
  93. yay! I like it when the left side of the infield doesn't commit an error!

seriously though, anyone want some carrots and hummus?

    ReplyDelete
  94. ...I'm listening to the radio Redsock, and I got in the first tek Dong.

    ReplyDelete
  95. so did tito stay too long with beckett hoping to get his 5 innings and a W?

    ReplyDelete
  96. what would win? Youk Goat or MDC Goat? consider the speed and agility of MDC and the strength and power of Youk.

    ReplyDelete
  97. hmmm, the actual radio? i assume there is an internet delay.

    ReplyDelete
  98. I think they pulled beckett too early.

    ReplyDelete
  99. Are you f$$$$ing kidding me? I never thought I'd be begging for White Flag to come back.

    ReplyDelete
  100. UN FUCKING BELIEVABLE
    ONE FUCKING PITCH

    ReplyDelete
  101. gah fuck. I don't want to see the same score as yesterday.

p.s. my last post was written like ten minutes ago, but I never hit enter. accidentally did now.

    anyhow, gah fuck!

    ReplyDelete
  102. Now after youk's homer and drew's grand slam, MDC will get the win. Unfair.

    ReplyDelete
  103. thomas seems like a nice guy. i liked him when he was with chicago and i'm glad he was able to get his career started again. but jesus christ ...

    ReplyDelete
  104. Sock, Yahoo.com's gamecaster is a little quicker than CBS

    ReplyDelete
  105. alright - i'm switching to yahoo. this cbs shit has gone on long enough.

    commence rally!

    ReplyDelete
  106. this yahoo thing looks like a fucking mess, but i'll stick with it.

    ReplyDelete
  107. "oh never mind. I messed it up" Remmy

    ReplyDelete
  108. Ok after drew's slam and LBJ's 2nd homer MDC will get the win. Unfair. Would be ok, yes, but unfair.

    ReplyDelete
  109. three picthes to flo and yahoo has not started yet.

    ReplyDelete
  110. Once you get used to it, it's awesome, trust me.

Does anyone else have the Subway $5 footlong jingle stuck in their head?

That jingle and Butters' "What what in the butt" song from the last South Park episode have been playing in a constant loop in my head. It's awful

    ReplyDelete
  111. Tek slam and LBJ homer. 2 shots for each today would be legendary.

    ReplyDelete
  112. Hmm, it's almost instant response for me - maybe it's not getting along well with your computer.

    ReplyDelete
  113. MBM comences the 2-out rally!

    ReplyDelete
  114. tried again, not working well for me.

    ReplyDelete
  115. nice yahoo headline:
    "will the tigers ever win?"

    ReplyDelete
  116. "what what in the butt" made it to south park? Have you ever seen the original video on youtube?

    ReplyDelete
  117. oooo - gameday is working for me today. didn't yesterday or friday so i didn't bother trying today.

    fascinating, i know.

    ReplyDelete
  118. ok well we lose again by a lot.

    ReplyDelete
  119. Lowell's having serious issues at the plate. Hitting a lot of balls to the right side which is weird for him. But looks lost every time.

    ReplyDelete
  120. I was gonna say isn't gameday better than all those others. Glad it works for you.

    ReplyDelete
  121. I didn't consider it to be too risque, at least not by south park standards. I mean, by normal standards, an 8 year old singing "you wanna do it in my butt?" would probably raise some red flags, but on south park... nah

    ReplyDelete
  122. i totally have no idea what you are talking about.

    ReplyDelete
  123. aardsma will have a 1-2-3. two ground outs and a fly out

    ReplyDelete
  124. Did the latest South Park episode not get aired in Canada? If so, that's pretty funny

    ReplyDelete
  125. was about to say "there's one" but Lugo fucked him over.

    ReplyDelete
  126. Sigh! Fenway, O! How we miss thee.

    ReplyDelete
  127. no, they get aired here -- often without any bleeps at all -- but i did not see it.

    ReplyDelete
  128. Check it out at southparkstudios.com when you get the chance. Canada goes on strike! (writers guild parody)

    ReplyDelete
  129. i love south park, but laura hates it with a passion i thought she reserved only for "freebird", so either we are watching a movie together ot i never remember to go off to the other tv and watch it.

i did see that every episode is online now.

    ReplyDelete
  130. well, he did as good as a 1-2-3, but inning still going thanks to Jul-E-o

    ReplyDelete
  131. still plenty of infield grandstand singles for Sunday nite vs. Yanks. behind poles, but still...

    ReplyDelete
  132. I can hear the chants at Fenway... low-rie, low-rie, low-rie

    ReplyDelete
  133. AAA-rdsma's job slipping away.

    ReplyDelete
  134. If Lugeo gets a hit, god willing, he will probably run the wrong way.

    ReplyDelete
  135. sock, I notice you're anti-Aard. I think he's done fine. Came in the other day and battled against Eckstein who finally drew the walk with a fake out of the ump, and then today he shoulda been outta this, if not for Lugo effing around.

    ReplyDelete
  136. Could it get any worse for Lugo?

Even his good efforts go wrong.

    ReplyDelete
  137. remember when the sox came back in the end to beat the yankees last year? Still early here.

and as I write that Loogey again blows a play. Does he play for the Jays?

    ReplyDelete
  138. When's the first game at Fenway?

    ReplyDelete
  139. nah - just bitching about the BB.

    ReplyDelete
  140. time to be concerned about the pen?

    ReplyDelete
  141. leadoff 1b for FLoyd. Come on, Rays! Break through!

    ReplyDelete
  142. Concerned about the pen? Timlin is about to come back, and that dude is in his prime!

    ReplyDelete
  143. Did you see Lugo's face after he made that catch? SO glad to get out of there.

Overall, what I've seen of Aard(vark?) has looked fairly decent--to my untrained eye.

    ReplyDelete
  144. Actually, I thought he was an interesting pickup.

Let's shut these fair-weather idiots up with some serious lumber.

    OnFire will get it going.

    ReplyDelete
  145. Buck Naked playing right for the Jaze

    ReplyDelete
  146. Hinske 1b! 2 on no out!

    And a Drew Dong!!!

    ReplyDelete
  147. stewart out, buck naked in LF

    ReplyDelete
  148. my naked comment got effed up and jere beat me to it.

    ReplyDelete
  149. except I put Buck in the wrong position. Or you did. But I think me.

    ReplyDelete
  150. Joba in with no outs in the 7th, 1st and 3rd. Good. I say bring him on.

    ReplyDelete
  151. joba gets first ass hole on three pitches. The guy who got caught stealing home before

    ReplyDelete
  152. jeemer in.

    so did JtC follow Wang?

    ReplyDelete
  153. if you want a pitcher taken to the woodshed, you got to do it yourself. we'll slap justin around soon.

    ReplyDelete
  154. Wow. Bring up Lowrie. I don't care. Put Mirabelli in a second, this is ridiculous.

    ReplyDelete
  155. when did we sign knoblauch to play short?

    ReplyDelete
