I'm watching Jays vs Spiders while I wait for our game to start. Great pitching matchup - Halliday / Sabbathia.
Get this. Our friends at Buffyvision are making fun of The Jake being renamed Progressive Field, how no one can remember the name, how the announcers all have to keep correcting themselves.
You know, the announcers who call games at The Rogers Centre, formerly known as Skydome...!
Waiting? You mean for Comerica stuff? It's written but waiting to post tomorrow. There's some stuff on wmtc now, but I'll elaborate more here tomorrow.
My shin is still sore from kicking myself. We didn't have a camera with us when we should have. Dumb.

Jere, and you're saying that is a good thing or a bad thing? The "I'll admit it" part sounds like you mean it's a good thing, but I'm confused because it's the 90s Yankees!
Just started reading the wmtc post, and already a nice little (or big, or regular) coincidence:
When I went to Detroit in '99, we went through Canada, and I have videotape of me standing in Windsor with the Detroit skyline behind me, probably from that same little park. But the weird thing is, I was wearing my Nomar shirt in the video, which I have held on to and still wear occasionally... including right now!
Damn, that's what I get for leaving the sound on during commercials. Mick and the boys singing "Like A Rainbow" for some colour copier or some other shit.
It's a pretty obvious comparison, I think. Not Knoblauch the unable-to-throw Yankee. Knoblauch the scrappy young Twin who won ROY and played for a championship team his rookie year.
A friend and I did Tor-Det-Pit in July '99. But our Det game was against the Yanks. Had we chosen a Sox game we would've been at the same series as you.

That's cool! Even though it didn't happen it's cool.
We didn't do anything else in Detroit, just went in for the games and back. We did some great stuff in Detroit on our 99 trip, but this was all Canada except for the games.
If you're dumb and you're a non-Spanish speaker, you won't know the phrase "to fire" in Spanish. But you might know "fuego" from hearing "en fuego" on SportsCenter or maybe from Sesame Street. That's what I was saying. But, still, from what I've observed, a whole shitload of Americans are quite, uh, anti-smart.

Well yes Jere , I will agree with that ......but knowing spanish should not be a deciding factor.......

The people in St. Johns didn't have a drastic accent. It's deep in the outport towns that you find the old coots who still recall that time they went to the next town over 20 years ago, and will tell you everything you want to know about the ocean, fish, and boats.

Mop Up only gets 1 game suspension after appeal.
I'll be happy enough with 100 wins.
It's "The Mop", not "Mop Up".

Ooooooohhh. Well excuse me then.
I apologize to whomever I just said got suspended for one game then.

A thing of beauty that is. A thing of beauty.
From YFSF:
You know what else is embarrassing? Being named Boof.
You know what's even more embarrassing? Choosing the name "Boof." Yes, Bonser actually changed his name from John Paul Bonser to Boof Bonser
Looks like the away-team theory is holding: the Twins homers are on here.
Lester has to be on tonight this team can run ....so please keep the walks under 3.......
But Boof is his name! Why is that embarrassing?
And this team has walked less than anyone in the league....
He was also part of this great trade........
Traded by the San Francisco Giants with Francisco Liriano and Joe Nathan to the Minnesota Twins for A.J. Pierzynski and cash.
And this team has walked less than anyone in the league....
That could be a real help for Lester, if these guys are free swingers. I like our chances.
I always like our chances.
Detroit has pull ahead of the Yanks, 3-1.
Can't imagine how they got to Igawa so early...
I wish Jacoby would take more pitches, especially in his first at bat.
My bad, Boof was throwing strikes...
Everyone seems to be less patient, more hacking. I don't know if it's true, but it seems like we're having shorter at-bats in general.
I don't want to ask anyone to run numbers on it...
fuck no! good play if he was really out.
Papi half dong!
I like how we wait for 2 outs before we get down to business.
Yeah, I love the two-out rally.
Twins announcers are praising Manny, without the backhanded compliments. Just flat-out appreciating him. Nice.
Also, they called Manny an RBI Machine. It reminded me we heard someone in Detroit call Yook the Human Sweat Machine.
Ok, it wasn't much of a rally...
Lester time!
Everyone got truped on that one, but Manny had it all along!
whew! At least it was a one pitch out!
That first batter is pretty Hillenbrand/Soriano, eh? 31 K, 3 BB.
Ellsbury keeps missing cutoff men, throwing to wrong base...
Ouch, 2nd and 3rd w/ only one out.
Ahh well.
Igawa fillings in nicely for Huges at Comerica... 6-1 Tigers
"No Dice" Kei.
2-0. Bah.
No Dice Kei, I like it :)
Jere, I have a post coming up that you will appreciate. Some observations from Comerica.
"No Dice Kei, I like it :)"
Thanks. That was a Jere-special.
Yeah we've been waiting!
not so wicked inning for Lester
Waiting? You mean for Comerica stuff? It's written but waiting to post tomorrow. There's some stuff on wmtc now, but I'll elaborate more here tomorrow.
My shin is still sore from kicking myself. We didn't have a camera with us when we should have. Dumb.
Oh, L, I see you have a vaca post up. I was gone all day til just now.
"We didn't have a camera with us when we should have."
Sometimes that's the key to being allowed to witness the magic...
Re Jere-Special, in Detroit one of us would make a joke or pun about a player and the other would say "Jere". They were Jere-special-wannabees.
Brendan Harris, eating crazy cheese like you would think he's from Paris
That's why you always run when the ball gets away from the catcher! Nice job, Youk!
"Oh, L, I see you have a vaca post up. I was gone all day til just now."
Yes, and more basebally detail tomorrow.
"Sometimes that's the key to being allowed to witness the magic..."
Hey, thanks. That makes me feel better.
"one of us would make a joke or pun about a player and the other would say "Jere". "
Sweet!
Twins anncrs noting how the Red Sox used to take a backseat to the Yankees in the division, but now the tables have turned, "and the Yankees can't seem to catch up with the Red Sox."
Your random statistic of the day:
The Red Sox are 1-7 in games under the dome on turf.
1-1 to open the season at the Tokyo Dome against the A's,
0-3 in early April against the Jays, and
0-3, two weekends ago against the Rays.
Only three teams still play on turf in the Major Leagues, all in the American League (Toronto, Tampa Bay, Minnesota).
Okay, I'll admit it for a change, this new thing of "stealing on occasion but only at the perfect time and it works even if you're a slow guy" is pretty Yankee late 90s-esque.
Now we're comin' back. Would really like to see these 2 runs score now.
But only Minnesota has old-fashioned turf. Rays and Jays both have the new semi-grass-like.
Okay, I'll admit it for a change, this new thing of "stealing on occasion but only at the perfect time and it works even if you're a slow guy" is pretty Yankee late 90s-esque.
(faints)
Jere, and you're saying that is a good thing or a bad thing? The "I'll admit it" part sounds like you mean it's a good thing, but I'm confused because it's the 90s Yankees!
OK, Allan fainted so now I got it! :)
Red Sox 2, other team 2.
Piles of work here, but most of it is due Monday, so I am sort of not doing it now.
Well it's a good thing till it stops working, let's put it that way.
P.S.: I love the name "Boof".
I wish we had a Boof on our team. one that was a good player, though.
Just started reading the wmtc post, and already a nice little (or big, or regular) coincidence:

Twins anncrs comparing FY to the young Knoblauch with the Twins. I'm always surprised that you don't hear that more.
Minnesota announcers make a comparison between Pedroia's rookie season last year and Chuck Knoblauch.
Please no? There is no comparison.
Cheer while you can, Twins fans.
Damn, that's what I get for leaving the sound on during commercials. Mick and the boys singing "Like A Rainbow" for some colour copier or some other shit.
And nobody tell me I'm overreacting or I'll smack you.
I like Dale a lot more than Dave. I wish Dave would just go away.
It's a pretty obvious comparison, I think. Not Knoblauch the unable-to-throw Yankee. Knoblauch the scrappy young Twin who won ROY and played for a championship team his rookie year.
And you know those short gritty white guys are all alike.
Jere, that's cool. And we were in Tiger Stadium in 99, that was the year of our Midwest Rustbelt Baseball Tour.
Damn, I thought Manny had that one.
Mick and the boys singing "Like A Rainbow" for some colour copier or some other shit.
If they sell off the shitty songs, it's okay.
Thats our Lugo! (cue the silly jingle)
there are people who claim this gomez guy is faster than lyndon.
speaking of Yankee era Knobby....
Restarting my "Fire Lugo" campaign.
"there are people who claim this gomez guy is faster than lyndon."
How can that be? Impossible.
We can start a fund to pay off Lugo's contract, so we can easily trade him...
A friend and I did Tor-Det-Pit in July '99. But our Det game was against the Yanks. Had we chosen a Sox game we would've been at the same series as you.
I hope Lester kicks Lugo in the nuts later
lester could use a kick or four himself.
He just needs a shoulder to cry on
Even I'm done defending Lugo. He just sucks.
You could call your Fire Lugo campaign: "Fuego Lugo, Hasta Luego"
But I'm sure "to fire" and "fire" are not both represented by the same word in Spanish like they are in English. But dumb Americans will get the idea.

What day were you in Pittsburgh?
twins rally started with 2 out, none on. fuck it.
Cheer while you can, St. Paul. You'll be needing gallons of Ketchup to cheer up when all is through.

He should 've dove for that one Ellsbury was backing him up.....
I'm trying to think of how to say "to fire" (as in can his ass) in Spanish. I can only think of "to lose one's job".
But if Lugo was en fuego we wouldn't want to fuego his ass.
Total pitches in 2 innings: 103
Lester: 26-30 - 56
Bonser: 17-30 - 47
So wait, did you stop by the old Tiger Stadium on this trip?
I see it's finally about to be demolished.

Well, Jere's American too.
Was in Pittsburgh in earlier July '99 than you.
Lester 56 pitches already....
Boof's been getting ahead of the hitters well.

Lowrie hasn't palayed a game at short since May 1......

Stretch time at Comerica. Tigers 6, Yanks 2.
Back in high school there was an extended field trip to Quebec for kids taking French. The ones who went told me that they couldn't understand French Canadians at all.
They also told me they would go to the bars at night.
9Casey, you almost started a rumour about yourself there. :)
I bet there are plenty of dumb bilingual people in Canada. And Switzerland. But fewer in the US among people whose first language is English.
Don't want to disparage all the Americans who learned English as a second language.

In Canada , its pronouced Canada, do you have a lot of situations where French would come in handy.....
Only one out made by Lugo...
Canadian French is very different than France French. Different accent. But I think they can understand each other.
Oh Lugo, you make me wait in vain for that redemption dong.
"he ones who went told me that they couldn't understand French Canadians at all."
I can barely understand Bostonian Americans! I go to my girlfriend's family's house for the holidays and I need a translator.
"In Canada , its pronouced Canada,"
That cracks me up.

That's the ridiculous thing about it. We have such a huge homogeneous culture, we have little opportunity to speak different languages. They teach us French that we can hardly use.
When we were in rural Louisiana and Mississippi, I couldn't understand anything anyone said.
Slight exaggeration, but only just.

At least I get to read French on the cereal boxes here. I like reading the labels. My French reading is doing great. Just don't ask me to say any of it.
Damn, is it 1st and 3rd w/ one out?
I couldn't understand some Newfies for the life of me, and when I did, they would be using phrases that I didn't know.
They'd talk to me for awhile and then say 'Wa?' (their version of Eh?), which was the only part I understood.
gomez = stolen base %age = 88%
lbj = sb %age = 100%
ha ha
oh yeah, you told me that about newfies. we're in for a treat this summer, wa?
damn, 5-2 them

hahaha! Try not to picture Youk in one of those, I dare you!
Hugging speedos, ha.
We'll only be in St John's a day or two. The rest of the trip will be all over the province.
Yook dong this inning......he's due....:)
Wow I'm surprised it's only 5-2
we got five innings left, offense. No problem.
St. Johns has supposedly the most bars per capita in north America. It was fun to be there when I was 19.
"Try not to picture Youk in one of those, I dare you"
I was about to eat, but suddenly I lost my appetite.
Nice! Key hesitation by Eddie Harris.
I was about to eat, but suddenly I lost my appetite.
I like that Casey mentioned a 'Youk Dong' shortly after my comment.
So Edwar Ramirez came in for the Yanks, and right away they make an error. No D!
Okay, again the first two get on for us. This time, score!
CHOCOLATE RAIN!!!!
Speaking of Chocolate Rain, nixon33 hasn't been around much.
Loa-ded, loa-dedddd.
Bases loaded, no outs!
RUNS PLEASE!!!
hose on the meer.
MIKE EEE MIKE EEE
Geez, Patrick, are you trying to make me puke? ;)
The Yanks find their D for Edwar, and get out of it. They go to the ninth, 6-2 Tigers.
Dr. Two-run Double!
the meer! nice.
Doctor!! Two in. Thank you Mikey!
Omg, I love me some Dr. Doubles.
5-5. Didn't take very long, either!
"productive out" / allan cringes
make it 6-5! Boof is pissed.
and a productive wild pitch! thank you rincon!
"just like that" (as announcers love to say), we have the lead.
I think this calls for a switch of avatars
very unique comeback we just made
BB JD
A fiery walk.
"very unique", that's funny irregardless of who says it.
drew, really. just stay there. you've just ruined our perfect sb record.
irregardless is a whole nother story
Mr. 27 coming up with 2 outs in the 9th!
a whole nother story, for all intensive purposes
We're counting on this man over at Comerica. I trust a foo-man-choo as much as a sweaty goatee when it comes to winning.
crap. he singles. 6-4, ABreu up as tying run
Supposably, "intensive purposes" is okay...
Evening, chaps.
Finally, got just baseball for the rest of the evening. Looked like everything was conspiring against the Red Sox until the top of the 5th.
Joe said Morneau is from B.C.
Oh yeah, Todd Jones, a gas can if ever there was one. Visiting fans cheer when he trots out.
ABreu doubles. 6-5. Stupid Jones
AHHHHHH 6-5 over at Comerica and Goadjilla is up.
They're walking Shemp intentionally. So, first and second, two outs in 9th, Yanks down 1. Duncan scheduled to hit
Yes, Morneau is Cdn. Much fuss made over him here when he won the AL MVP.
Leyland knows when to walk a hot hitter, Godjilla IBB.
time for the wheat thins to crumble.
haha, I love when the Yanks almost win and still lose! Duncan flies out to end it
Bwahahaha! time to make hay!
Hi Ish :)
I don't know if intensive purposes is ok, I'll have to acks someone. It might be do to the fact that I di'int know.
I see that pitchers duel in Cleveland fell apart, Jays lost 6-1. They seem demoralized.
Their "big move" was to get Kevin Mensch.
I see Kei Igawa dazzled once again... :)
3 IP, 6 ER, 11 H, 0 Dice!
What, Lugo might be hurt? Quick, put him on the DL and call Lowrie!
Owie. Lugo's been having some ups and downs lately.
ELLSBURY!!!! Another one!
I blinked and missed that one.
Ellsbury heading toward the record.
You cannot catch him! You will never catch him!!
