Dustin Pedroia Believes He Is A Better Baseball Player Than Chad Curtis

From Terry Francona's press briefing today, courtesy of the Globe:
Last year, I introduced [Ken] Macha to [Pedroia] and Macha was just making conversation with him and said, "Hey, you remind me of Chad Curtis." Macha meant it like a real compliment, but Pedey was like, "Are you [expletive] me?" Maybe he's right. It went from just trying to introduce him to I had to hold Pedey back ... Good to not introduce him to anybody.

  1. Chad Curtis had a career OPS+ of 95 and was an outfielder.

Maybe Macha meant that they're both kind of short.

  2. Love it! That made me just laugh out loud. What a mouth and temper that boy has (as well as an ego)!

  3. Looks like Tito is making the comparison because of attitude.

  4. Short, scrappy and white. Tough attitude, not unrelated to being short.

  5. My wife is 4'11". I'm 6'0". She does kinda have a tough attitude.

  6. It applies more to men than women. It's a lot easier to be a short woman than a short man.

I am 5'1", btw. Also the youngest in my family. :)

Something to do with Jeter and A-Rod? Or more obscure than that?

  8. Thanks, Laura. I am ready to get myself back into the real world.

OK, I admit I don't remember or never knew who Chad Curtis is/was, but it didn't matter---FY's reaction was so classic.

  9. Tell that to my wife when she's shopping for pants.

  10. Pedroia reminds me of Larry Bird, they both look like they should be sellin' door-to-door.....But are athletes who could beat you at any minute then tell you all about it.

Both have a confidence I haven't seen in too many athletes.

Some of the top of my head:
    Woods
    Montana
    Pedro

    Much more obscure.

It's quite embarrassing. We used to call him LBC.

That's right. I had a brief crush on Chad Curtis. What can I say.

    Doesn't she know about petites?

I'm short, so I sympathize. But I think in our world, it's easier for a woman to be short than a man.

  14. Can we add KG to that list? The man is a monster.

You made the right move blocking out/not paying attention to the late '90s!

  17. LOL, Jere. I do find that I remember players from the 70s better than those from the 80s and 90s. I chalk it up to dead brain cells while raising kids and to the fact that we did not have cable then and thus I could not watch any games on TV and only followed the team through the paper and occasional trips to Fenway. In the 70s I had no kids, lived in Boston where I could watch games on free TV, and was...(ahem) younger. Since 1998 we have had cable, kids went off to college by 2002, and my brain cells came back to life, sort of.
