Theo: Backup Job "Is George Kottaras's To Lose"

That's what it says here:
General Manager Theo Epstein says that the backup job "is George Kottaras's to lose."
Mike McDermott, ProJo:
Kottaras said yesterday that he hoped that session [catching Tim Wakefield's knuckleball last week] gave the team the confidence to trust him as the backup.

"I was proud of the way that I caught it," Kottaras said. "I got my opportunity, and hopefully they can go based on that.

Kottaras is hitting .286 with one home run and two RBI in 14 spring at-bats.

  1. It's hard to believe that Theo put it exactly that way. What a confidence booster!

Oh, hello to you! Long time, too long! Be well...Peter

  2. WEEI: "... an encouraging outing by Brad Penny over that minor league complex in which Red Sox GM Theo Epstein said the pitcher touched 95 mph (after living between 89 and 92 mph in his previous outing)."

I think it's the opposite if anything--he seems really psyched to be playing in that, and played the last game with the injury.

Don't you love how that article says "just when it seemed the news couldn't get any worse FOR TEAM USA"?? Fuck Team USA, it's not even a real fucking team! This is a RED SOX injury and that's all that matters!

  6. At least the whole team isn't flying to Japan and back.

  7. That Japan thing was just as dumb--those should have been exhibition games, too, if they had to play them at all.

  8. Did you read about Manny's day playing Cricket?

I would have loved to have been a spanish-speaking fly on the wall when he and Sexy Lips were living together, by the way.

I agree on "fuck team USA" (always!) but if it's article about the WBC, that's what it should say. For "this is bad for the Red Sox," see stories on the Red Sox.
