G85: Royals 8, Red Sox 6

Royals - 000 304 010 - 8 13 1
Red Sox - 301 010 010 - 6 10 1
David Ortiz hit his 300th career home run in the first inning, but Manny Delcarmen and Justin Masterson could not hold a 5-3 lead in the sixth.

Boston had a golden scoring opportunity in the eighth. They trailed 8-5, but had the bases loaded with one out. Down 0-2, Mark Kotsay fouled off five pitches from Juan Cruz before lofting a sacrifice fly to center field. With Sox on first and third and two outs, Joakim Soria came out of the pen and quickly struck out Nick Green (who had singled and doubled earlier) on a filthy 12-6 curveball inside.

Dustin Pedroia singled, doubled and homered -- his AL-leading 14th three-hit game of the season; he also scored two runs. Kevin Youkilis singled and doubled and scored twice. Daniel Bard finished the eighth and pitched the ninth, striking out three of the four batters he faced.

The Yankees beat the Twins 6-4 during the day, so Boston and New York are tied yet again -- at 51-34 -- atop the AL East. The MFY head to Anaheim for the weekend.

***

Luke Hochevar (5.08, 85 ERA+) / Brad Penny (4.67, 100 ERA+)

Since May 3, Penny has been remarkably consistent -- and quite productive for a 5th starter.

A 3.68 ERA in 12 starts. At least six innings pitched in eight of those 12 starts. He's allowed two runs or fewer in half of the starts -- and three runs or fewer in 10 of the 12 starts. He is allowing a lot of baserunners, however: 97 hits + walks in 71 innings.

Zack Greinke (2.12, 203 ERA+) pitched last night, so the Red Sox will not see him during this four-game series. Boston plays in Kansas City September 21-24.

The Yankees (1 GB) play this afternoon in Minnesota (Aceves/Liriano).

***

Julio Lugo left the team yesterday because of a family matter. There was no word on when he would return.

David Ortiz's home run last night was #299 of his career. He has 773 RBI with Boston, tied with Rico Petrocelli for 8th on the Red Sox All-Time List.

Jed Lowrie was activated and optioned to Lowell (A). He went 2-for-3 last night with two doubles, two walks, two runs and an RBI. The earliest the Red Sox could bring Lowrie back to Boston is July 18 -- the second game after the All-Star break.

Daisuke Matsuzaka is in Fort Myers doing spring training drills, though it's in the heat of July now and not the relative cool of February/March. Francona:
[I]f you go down to Fort Myers in the middle of July at 7:30 in the morning, and the first day you run the shuttle and the second day you run the mile-and-a-half, he did a good job.
Steve Buckley says Wakefield should start the All-Star Game. Eric Wilbur says (and I agree) that's coo coo bananas.

  1. When is the best time in the AS game for Wake to pitch though? I'd say 3rd inning or so. Let a fireballer or two go through the lineup once then send Wake in to slow it down. Anywhere near the beginning or end of the game and people are going to crucify him for the inevitable passed balls at a crucial part of the game.

  2. The earliest the Red Sox could bring Lowrie back is July 18 -- the second game after the All-Star break.

Why? Once he's off the DL, can't they just call him up whenever they want?

    ReplyDelete
  3. Lowrie's not on the DL anymore. He got activated from the DL then optioned to Lowell and he ahs to stay there for a period of time. In this case, July 18th.

    ReplyDelete
  4. Grienke or Halladay should be the starter, Wake should be kept for the late innings as in extra if needed.

WEEI saying JP is asking for the top 5 prospects for Doc. Too high a price? I say yes. Make it 3 and we'll talk.

  5. a-con - because of this "The option means that he needs to spend a minimum of 10 days in the Minor Leagues before being activated by the Sox. "

His rehab time was ending but he wasn't ready for the club (thanks to being hit on the knee). Therefore they optioned him.

    ReplyDelete
  6. I meant bring Lowrie back to the big club. I added "to Boston" to the post.

I don't think anything will happen with Halladay (who recently returned from injury) until this off-season, at the earliest.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Also, Greinke pitched last night. He'd be in line to pitch on Monday and the ASG is Tuesday. Not sure why he would not get the ball.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Can't see them trading Doc inside the division, but can you imagine how terrified you'd be to see him in a MFY uni?
Talking of 'hot prospects' look at Craig Hansen - I think he's on the 60-day dl and has a career ERA of over 6...

    ReplyDelete
  9. Just to make sure I understand: it counts as if he was in the MLB club, and got optioned to the minors? And therefore, the rules for MLB players optioned to the minors only being available for a call-up 10 days (I'm guessing it's 10 days based on the relevant dates in this case) later apply?

    ReplyDelete

I could swear this reply by S1C, which makes the question in my second comment moot, wasn't there a minute ago.

    ReplyDelete
  11. I agree let the old man start

    ReplyDelete
  12. James - If you look at Doc's stats, the Sox don't fear him. 12-12 in his career vs Sox. 16-5 against the MFY's.

Look, I'm happy that Wake made the AS team, but to make him the starter is nuts. Consider it a lifetime achievement award and start Grienke (I want home field for the WS).

    ReplyDelete
  13. Terrified of someone in pinstripes? Please.

    Sox vs Halladay: .271/.314/.411

4.46 in 37 games against Boston (the most games against any club).

Against teams Halladay has faced more than 13 times, that's his second-worst ERA. (His ERA against Texas is 5.36 in 20 games.)

    ReplyDelete
  14. Can't see them trading Doc inside the division, but can you imagine how terrified you'd be to see him in a MFY uni?.

I can imagine that...and the answer is, not really terrified at all. In fact, I'd welcome the opportunity when the Sox play him.

Of course, he would win games for them against other teams that may normally have been lost, but, terrified? Hardly.

And Wakefield starting the ASG is ridiculous. Almost as ridiculous as the ASG itself.

And Wakefield starting the ASG is ridiculous.

If starting is ridiculous , then you must think him making the team is as well.....and s1c you say start Greinke you want home field advantage in the ws, so for us to get there, Wake will have nothing to do with that, right now we have the best chance for any AL team to make it to the world series, but if you want to place that on a Royal pitcher, then so be it....I just believe Red Sox players will take it more seriously then say a Royal player or an Oriole etc...at least they should....

  16. Yankees beat the Twins...again. Completing a season sweep for the third time dating back to 2002. The Yanks are 41-14 over that time. Why oh why do some teams just roll over for the Yanks?

  17. Should we ditch "oatmeal" and refer to lineups as "needle and thread"?

    1. J.D. Drew, RF
    2. Dustin Pedroia, 2B
    3. Kevin Youkilis, 3B
    4. David Ortiz, DH
    5. Jason Bay, LF
    6. Jacoby Ellsbury, CF
    7. Jason Varitek, C
    8. Mark Kotsay, 1B
    9. Nick Green, SS

    1. David DeJesus, CF
    2. Willie Bloomquist, SS
    3. Billy Butler, 1B
    4. Jose Guillen, LF
    5. Mark Teahen, 3B
    6. Mike Jacobs, DH
    7. Miguel Olivo, C
    8. Alberto Callaspo, 2B
    9. Ryan Freel, RF

  18. Move Youkilis out of the 3rd and put Papi there.

    Youkilis - 130 AB's this year hitting a sparkling .215/.342/.462 in the 3 hole. 118 AB's in the 4 hole - .373/.490/.644

    ReplyDelete
  19. Stay with oatmeal. Let's not change our vocabulary for trolls.

    ReplyDelete
  20. s1c, do you really believe Youk is slumping because he's batting 3rd and not 4th?

    ReplyDelete
  21. Zen, no, I don't think that is entirely why he is slumping. I think it does play a part though and just like FY sometimes it pays to move a guy back to where he was comfortable. Also, Papi loves batting 3rd so solve two problems move papi back to 3rd, youk to 4th.

    ReplyDelete

Ugh. Why do I always have to deal with these comments. In the gamethread where he was selected to the team, I clearly said its great and I'm happy for the guy, even though I don't care about the game itself.

IMO, it is ridiculous to start him because Greinke has been far more dominant thus far in the season. The All Star Game signifies, to me, a collection of the players who have performed the best during the first half of the season. In terms of AL pitching, Greinke > Wakefield. Please do not argue that.

Greinke has been the best pitcher in the league, with only Halladay close to him. This being in terms of ERA, WHIP etc. NOT the amount of wins and run support a pitcher gets.

I fail to see why you need to slam the Royals and Greinke in the second part of your post. WTF mate? "If you want to put that on a royals pitcher" and "Red Sox players will take it more seriously" - I have other things to do right now, such as watch this game, so I would just like to comment on how out of touch with reality and ridiculous I find these comments to be.

Also I'm not sure if you've checked a map lately, but KC is a hell of a lot closer to St. Louie than Boston.

  23. Tim, chill man - then go put some coffee on

    ReplyDelete
  24. I thought it was a nice gesture to include Wake on the squad - as s1c mentioned, "as a lifetime achievement award". Classy of Maddon to do that for Wake and for their divisional rival. But, yeah, his ERA was well north of 4 at the time of the voting, and such gestures aside, it's supposed to be based on results from this year only.

    ReplyDelete
  25. if tim is annoyed/frustrated, he's allowed to express it without being told to pipe down.

    YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOK

    ReplyDelete
  30. I smell a 4-game sweep. /complete and total overreaction.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Nah, it's 100% beers tonight. But apparently my beverage selection doesn't effect the Sox ability to score runs!

    Shit. Don't tell CHB.

    ReplyDelete
  32. QUADRANGULAR #300!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  33. Papi is Back, in a big, big WAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  36. Holy crap! Papi's not only back...he's becoming Old Reliable again.

    ReplyDelete
  37. And I've always been chilled, I just don't like it when I say "A" and people automatically assume that because I say "A" I must think "Z"

    ...

I sense I've failed to communicate that effectively. Oh well.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Hochevar had FY, Yook and Flo at 0-2. The result? No outs, 3 runs. Hahaha.

Oh, yeah, and Papi is crazy hot. I think we can retire the whole "he's back" thing. It's history. He just is.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Nice of them to jump out and get a lead, no shut them down Penny!!!

    ReplyDelete
  40. Ah well - I said it was a short day. Work in the morning, my cousin's funeral in the afternoon. Better go to bed. Night all...

    ReplyDelete
  41. Re Wake

I'm thinking that if the MFY had a 42-year old vet who had never made an ASG before and was given the starting assignment as a type of gift when he didn't even truly belong on the team at all, Red Sox fans would not be cool with it.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Good night, Lord. We'll get a win for you.

Tim, your communication skills are just fine.

    ReplyDelete
  43. And I've always been chilled, I just don't like it when I say "A" and people automatically assume that because I say "A" I must think "Z"

OOOOOOO YEAAHHHHHH gimme that sweet sexy dong big daddy!

    Tim, I don't wanna make any assumptions. What did you mean by the second comment? (-;

    ReplyDelete
  44. Sorry to hear that, Lynch. Sleep well.

    ReplyDelete
  45. What's that you say, Sox fans with a double-standard?? Never...

    Haw, haw, haw.

    ReplyDelete
  48. that dunkin donut promo has like 4 different tag lines

    ReplyDelete
  49. Penny's retired seven straight...F-Train?

    ReplyDelete
  50. oops just saw that re lord & funeral, too late

    ReplyDelete
  51. All right, my last comment was a fuckin' jinx.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Ok, just finished running some numbers.

Minimum 50 IP's and 1 start, Wakefield is in the top 20 in all of baseball in Wins, HR 9, top 50 in IP's and ERA.

Oh yeah, his WHIP is a respectable 1.379. So to say he doesn't deserve to be an all star?

What pitcher would you put on the team over him?

    ReplyDelete
  53. Youk had to get on his horse there.

    ReplyDelete
  54. those numbers aren't so impressive. top 20? and what stats are you using - wins, hrs? not much going there.

i don't know who i'd put in b/c i don't care about the asg and i haven't looked at every possible pitcher.

but as zen has said, it's a lifetime achievement award. it's not based on excellence this season.

    ReplyDelete
  55. I think we're all in agreement that the Wakefield All Star thing is a "lifetime achievement" thing for being a pretty durable, decent pitcher with a unique pitch, very team-oriented and well-liked guy. He's not there based on pure stats, and even Maddon's admitted that (I believe I heard that on sunday nite baseball)...whatever.

And I picked a bad time to go away from this thread. Thanks Ofer. :P

    ReplyDelete
  56. a plethora of doubles tonight

    ReplyDelete
  57. maybe yook does love the 3 hole!

    ReplyDelete
  58. Here comes Papi, the deuce-donger...not gonna lie, his recent heating up is giving me a raging hard on. Take that as you will. It means exactly what it says.

Thought I'd add a bit of andy to this thread as I haven't seen the guy in awhile.

    ReplyDelete
  59. tim is understudy for andy tonight

    ReplyDelete
  60. Oh yes, Bay-by, do me like that.

    ReplyDelete
  61. JBay!!!

    Keep on adding on guys

(l-girl - there is close to 200 pitchers in the AL & NL that meets that criteria so top 20 is top 10%).

    ReplyDelete
  62. Nick Blackburn, Jarrod Washburn, Jered Weaver, Kevin Millwood...all have ERA's (currently) at or under 3.34.

    ReplyDelete
  63. I read those first two names Zen posted and assumed that post was about pitchers whose names end with "-burn"

    I was disappointed.

    ReplyDelete
  64. and all play on teams that were only going to get one player on the team (except for blackburn right?)

    ReplyDelete
  65. A, top 10% in what stats, you're not choosing important stats (mostly)

    and

B, what percentage of pitchers go to ASG? how many of the 200, and what % does that make?

    ReplyDelete
  66. not well played by bay. yikes

    ReplyDelete
  67. Way to misplay that one JBAY

    ReplyDelete
  68. Well this is quite shit, if I may say so myself.

    ReplyDelete
  69. now let's get those runs back

    ReplyDelete
  70. That's not atonement, douchebag!

    ReplyDelete
  71. So with 2 baserunners that inning, we still managed to send the minimum up to the plate.

    ReplyDelete

    You don't have to...
I have my opinion and you have yours I respect that ...I am not sure what the map comment is dealing with, but I am sure you will correct that for me, mate....
I am sorry if I caused you any aggravation in "dealing" with my comments....

    ReplyDelete
  73. Hay L, I know Jere doesn't thread anymore, but it seems as though he doesn't visit here anymore either....

    ReplyDelete
  74. I have no way of knowing if Jere visits. He told me he's watching games w/o a computer now, that's all I know.

He's blogging, so you can always visit him.

  76. penny had 15 2-strike fouls.

    ReplyDelete
  77. Well, I didn't view the comment as your opinion, 9c, it appeared to me to be you making assertions about my thoughts and beliefs.

    ReplyDelete
  78. no DO it is the first of his batters faced that has scored. He has allowed a ton of inherited runners to score.

    ReplyDelete
  79. Eck says no way Pap will be in tonight.

Well, we better score a shit ton of runs then or I'm going to have to make a booze run before the store closes at 10 pm to deal with Ram Ram and Saito.

    ReplyDelete
  80. Shit. This is what I come home to?

    ReplyDelete
  81. What in the blue fuck, bullpen?

    ReplyDelete
  82. I left the restaurant, and the score was 5-3. Damn.

    ReplyDelete
  83. We should not be giving up seven runs to this shitty team.

    ReplyDelete
  84. plenty of time to get the runs back

    ReplyDelete
  85. man, is this season totally fucked or what?

    ReplyDelete
  86. Relax, we're playing KC, plenty of time to score against their (I'm assuming) shitty bullpen.

    44 on 44 here.

    ReplyDelete
  87. OK. Let's see if I have learned by see no evil Joy Of Sox mantra. It's just a game. We aren't going to win all of them. We have won 6 out of very 10 games this year. Nothing to worry about. 2004 and 2007 make the waste of a season known as 1978 (and 2003) irrelevant.

So it does not matter that we blew a 10-2 lead to a crappy Orioles team, lost 2 out of 3 at home to a mediocre if improving Seattle, were 2 hit by a rookie Oakland pitcher and blew a 4-0 lead tonight with a bullpen that reminds me of the worst Red Sox teams of my youth (and, well, 1978).

To worry about this team, on this basis, is negative thinking and we just don't need that kind of thing here.

(To Conformer: Lowrie is not on the list but was optioned to Lowell when he was activated. When a player is sent down, as he was, he has to stay in the minors for ten days before he is eligible for recall to the majors. I am sure he will be recalled to Pawtucket shortly.

    ReplyDelete
  88. Healty is....

    STOOPID!!!! LOLOLOL BETH DECON!

    ReplyDelete
  89. No, this guy's a righty. HoCheGueVara has to be a lefty.

    ReplyDelete
  90. *Healthy, that is.

Good work Tek. Now score on Nick Green's game tying dong.

    ReplyDelete
  91. What are the chances of a guy like Kotsay showing his dong?

    ReplyDelete
  92. "OK. Let's see if I have learned by see no evil Joy Of Sox mantra."

Give us a break. What the fuck do we have to listen to this crap for. Don't you have your own blog?

If the attitude around here doesn't suit you, there are only a million other Red Sox socks to hang out with.

    ReplyDelete
  93. Barth, the only thing you have down is how to act like an asshole.

    ReplyDelete
  94. ...we just don't need that kind of thing here.

You really should stop making shit up.

    ReplyDelete
  95. red sox sites, that is. not red sox socks. typo.

    ReplyDelete
  96. Barth, when you're watching the Red Sox put on champagne goggles and hoist the trophy in October, are you really going to give a shit about losing 2 of 3 to Seattle in July?

We're simply focused on long-term results here, not short-term panic attacks. While recognizing obvious long-term problems, such as Lugo, we also recognize anomalies which are unlikely to occur again, such as blowing the Orioles game.

The problem I have is with people that blow up these anomalies and make it seem like this team is never good enough to win it all, all the while discounting other anomalies of this year and chalking em up to being normalities, like the fact that we haven't lost to the Yankees yet, including that 16-11 amazing, ridiculous win, among many other highlights.

What I've learned is that baseball is a season of ups and downs, over 6 (or 7) months and 162 games, there will be some shitty streaks and there will be some good streaks.

Our longest winning streak is 11 games and our longest losing streak is 3.

There's been some shitty stuff happening recently, yes, but as Manny said "it's not the end of the world" - that being said, I would not have enjoyed reading your downtrodden, doomsday posts during the 2004 or 2007 ALCSes.

    ReplyDelete
  97. Sorry for feeding the trolls, guys. I just felt it had to be done.

    ReplyDelete
  98. "2004 and 2007 make the waste of a season known as 1978 (and 2003) irrelevant."

    1978 is irrelevant.
    So is 2003.
    So is 2004.
    So is 2007.

When it comes to 2009, none of those years is relevant. The Red Sox's performance in any of those years have exactly nothing to do with their performance this year.

(Why the fuck does this guy bring up 1978 all the time?)

    ReplyDelete
  99. Odd: Barth brings up 1978 more often than any Yankees troll I have ever seen.

    ReplyDelete
  100. Tim, nicely done!

    When's the camping trip, btw?

    ReplyDelete
  101. I am too focused on the implosion of the bullpen to worry about Barth.

    ReplyDelete
  102. Barth has been at it all week. I reached my limit.

    ReplyDelete
  103. Leaving tomorrow at 9:30am!

So I will miss the rest of these delightful matches with the Kansians (?)

Back Sunday evening, should be fun times.

    ReplyDelete
  104. Bullpen needs a break. Thankfully, a nice one is coming up.

We will survive. And we'll come back this game!

    ReplyDelete
  105. I would think Ram Ram at least starts the 8th.

    ReplyDelete
  106. All I can say about 1978 and 2009 is that that many of the current players were not even born in 1978. Not the same team, not the same management. Even the 2003 team is not relevant: not the same team.

    Time marches on.

    ReplyDelete
  107. By the way Amy, I had the idea this morning after your comment that maybe I should develop a Joy of Sox crossword puzzle.

What's eight letters for "diminutive second baseman?"

    ReplyDelete
  108. Tim, nice to see you here. Can we assume you are finally done with exams? If so, congratulations!

    ReplyDelete
  109. Kansians (?)

That's a great question. Kansasians? Kansatians? Kansees? Kansans? Kansi? I like Kansi the best. Now, let's see if I can find out the real name.

    ReplyDelete
  110. WCS, I do not think that answer would be acceptable under NYTimes standards!

    ReplyDelete
  111. fuckyeah! make that 15 across.

    ReplyDelete
  112. Kansans. Quite boring, I must say.

    ReplyDelete
  113. I don't think I'll submit it to the NY times. Not many people would get the clue "Laura's boy."

    ReplyDelete
  114. Barth has been at it.

Well, then, all you need to do is get Barth to stop complaining, and everything will be great.

I am glad you folks can watch this without fear that one of the best Red Sox teams we have ever had looks really bad during this homestand.

Sorry. I am unable to do so with the sunny disposition that others seem to have.

But my bad mood since the 10-1 game is not the cause of our troubles (if that's what they are since so many of you think it's nothing). It is the suddenly crappy bullpen and uneven starting pitching that is causing my bad mood.

Sorry if I have offended you by my concerns.

    ReplyDelete
  115. People from Kansas?

People from Mass are called....Bay Staters. People from CT---Nutmeggers. So perhaps there is some equivalent for Kansas.

    ReplyDelete
  116. Xword puzzle is a great idea!

    All JoS nicknames and gamethreaders.

    ReplyDelete
  117. I thought they were looking for the demonym, not a nickname.

    ReplyDelete
  118. Kansan - ahhhh the Kansans.

    Fuck Yeah!

    ReplyDelete
  121. I'll work on it - it will be an end of the year thing, though.

    ReplyDelete
  122. But anyway, KC isn't in Kansas. Not the KC this game is being played in, anyway.

    ReplyDelete
  123. Demonym?? That is one cool word, but what does it mean?

    ReplyDelete
  124. Better than calling them "Hebrews," I suppose.

    ReplyDelete
  125. "Well, then, all you need to do is get Barth to stop complaining, and everything will be great."

Everything will be whatever it will be with or without you. It will just be less annoying if you would STFU.

  126. Ofer, where I live some of my more ignorant countrymen refer to the current inhabitants of Israel as Israelites....

    Hey, as long as they add a 'fucking' before it, I don't care how they call us (-;

And Laura, is there more than one Kansas City?

    ReplyDelete
  127. fuck - there goes the pennant.

    ReplyDelete
  128. Ofer, there is a KC in Kansas and in Missouri. The one is Missouri is the bigger city and where the ML team is.

    ReplyDelete
  129. Better than calling them "Hebrews," I suppose.

A lot of people have asked me to say something in 'Israeli'. I guess that's the other side of the same coin.

    ReplyDelete
  130. Also, the two KCs border each other or are near each other, I believe. I have never been to either, however.

    ReplyDelete
  131. Ofer, there is a KC in Kansas and in Missouri. The one is Missouri is the bigger city and where the ML team is.

Huh, I always thought there was one KC, and the state border goes through the middle of it.

  132. rs--my sense of humor fails me when you say 'there goes the pennant, all is lost.' I'm like, shit, if Allan says it, that's it, must be true.

Then I remember, ohyeah, he's making fun of doomers like me. LIghten up, I have to tell myself....

    ReplyDelete
  133. Amy, I liked your comment re "time marches on". Believing 1978 is relevant to this season is tantamount to believing in a c_rs_.

Ofer, I think there is a smaller, less famous Kansas City in Kansas. This KC is in Missouri.

    Where Missourites are from.

    ReplyDelete
  134. I'll leave.

    Your choice.

(Note: If you post provocative comments, they will likely provoke a strong response.)

  136. Ofer, I think you are correct geographically, but because they are in different states, they are different cities. There cannot be a city that exists in two states.

    ReplyDelete
  137. hmmm, MDCs baseball reference page is sponsored by :

Fans of the 28 teams not named Red Sox (or Yanks) sponsor(s) this page.

Congratulations, Boston. You couldn't win a title, so you bought TWO - just like the Yanks. Open the wallet for Curt, Keith, and Johnny - end 86 years of frustration. 175M reasons never to whine about NYY. PS 2007: Open wallet for Beckett, Daisuke, Lowell

    LOL

    ReplyDelete
  138. Don't let her kid you, ofer--it's 'Missouribrews.'

    ReplyDelete
  139. I want to go to Kansas City. I want to see a game or two at that park, and eat fried chicken and mashed potatoes at Stroud's, reputed to be some of the best in the US.

    ReplyDelete
  140. If we believed that one season predicted the next, then we should have been World Champs again in 2005 when we still had most of the 2004 team. Things just are always changing and never predictable.

Now that does not mean I don't worry. It just means I don't try and predict what will happen (good or bad) based on what has already happened.

  141. Ofer, I think you are correct geographically, but because they are in different states, they are different cities. There cannot be a city that exists in two states.

Oh, I see. So it's a bureaucratic matter. Geographically speaking, it is the same city.

    ReplyDelete
  142. Of course, we TRADED for Beckett and Lowell.

    ReplyDelete
  143. Are you sure that geographically they are actually the same city? I have to check a map. I didn't think so.

    ReplyDelete
  144. but this is baseball - facts have no place here.

  145. My older daughter went to KC for a wedding, expecting a little cowtown with lots of hicks (typical Northeasterner bias). She loved it---said the food was great, lots of cool places.

    ReplyDelete
  146. The cities may be side-by-side without being much the same. Hoboken and Manhattan only have a river between them....

Johnny? As in, Damon? I thought he was signed in '01 or '02, no?
(Why am I trying to think about this reasonably, instead of just laughing about it?)

  148. A con - Amy and L-girl are correct except people from MO are called Missourians.

It is Arkansans or acceptable is Arkansawyers, or hillbillies.

Old joke - do you know why Oklahoma is so windy?

Because Kansas sucks and Texas blows.

    ReplyDelete
  157. Shit. The Sox need a run for every 2 outs they have left, now.

    ReplyDelete
  158. now we really are doomed there goes the season (I try for blithe Allanian sarcasm but wind up half-believing myself. Yikes, scary!)

  160. Amy it is the Missouri River

    ReplyDelete
  161. Ofer, you probably know more American geography than most Americans (obviously including me). Our school system does a terrible job at geography (world and US), IMHO.
