JoS2 (Maybe)

JoS1 was a huge success, despite the stupid outcome of the stupid game.

For several reasons, the only chance of JoS2 happening in 2010 is if it's held north of the border. Here's my idea: go to a night game at Skydome on Wednesday, August 11, and then hang out at our house the following day, watching the afternoon game on BuffyVision and grilling dinner. We could probably have everyone spend the night at Chez L-Sock, plus there is a possibility of the game tickets being half-price.

If anyone out there thinks he or she could swing this, let me know.

  1. It's no Fenway, but it is Chez L-Sock!

It might be a bit hard to get a group out there, but Tim would be able to make it! Maybe some massachusetts folks could carpool and share driving, then the travel schedule could be more compact.

    We'd need passports, eh?

  2. Sounds like a great idea, but I do not think I can pull it off this summer with a grandchild on the way. Wow, can you believe I am going to be a grandma??

I will keep it in mind, but think the odds are very slim.

  3. I'd love to.

Let me see if it's possible.

  4. I know it's a longshot, but it's the best we can do this year. I figured I'd put it out there and see what happened.

  5. It's a possibility since I have lots of relatives in Toronto. Money is the only issue for me...The Great Recession lives.

That's one big reason why we can't go to Fenway this year. We have a nephew's wedding to attend in California and we already can't afford that.

More about the California trip by email - hopefully we can go to a game with the Bay Area chapter of Joy Nation!

Yes! Woti-woti is also in Ontario.

Sharing driving is a great idea, and yes, you'll need passports, which really really really really sucks and is really really really stupid.

  8. Amy, when is the baby due? I saw your announcement on FB. So exciting! But the nerve of her, to keep you from attending JoS2. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  9. The baby is due July 1, before the ASB, we hope. Who knows---if all goes well, perhaps we can get away. But I just am not making any summer plans right now.

Speaking of babies, how is Cody? Haven't seen a pupdate in a while.

Oh yes, makes sense. We think JoS2 will be in August, so maybe it will work for you. Or not.

Speaking of babies, how is Cody? Haven't seen a pupdate in a while.

She's great, thanks. Back to her usual self, stitches out, fur growing back. She seems really happy. I feel incredibly lucky.

  11. That's great about Cody! And she needs no folow up treatments or anything? Tala must be happy to have her pal back in shape.

  12. The Guelph doctors want her to have chemo but we decided against it. They got the whole tumour, and if there are stray cancer cells in there somewhere, by the time a tumour forms, who knows how old she will be. We don't want to put her through treatments - every 3-4 weeks, an hour away, sedation, side effects, etc. No go.

Both dogs seem very happy. It's a joy to watch them together.

It was hard to see Tala while Cody was in the hospital - she was so depressed. She didn't eat the whole time, just curled up in her crate. A preview of what's to come one day. But for now, all is grand.

    Major off-topic!!! :)

  13. Yes, off topic, but I am the master of the off topic post....

That sounds like the humane decision. We have made that same decision ourselves, with humans as well as with dogs. When Harvey's father was diagnosed with colon cancer at 93, there was no follow up treatment after surgery for the same reasons (though the doctors did present it as an option). He lived over two more years, without pain or the side effects of chemo.

    Anyway, back to baseball....

  14. I wish I could make this, but there's no way I could afford it this year. Hopefully I could make a potential JoS3.

  15. I can't go to Toronto this summer, but would like to be on any e-mails about California -- if it's Northern California.

I'm trying to make arrangements for San Francisco (June 25-27) and Oakland (July 19-21). I currently have a pair of tickets for a friend and me for July 21 only.

1-0 Twins after 4. Dustin and Reddong with our only hits thus far.

  20. Yeah, I was mulling about those 3 mid-week games. My personal life is less complicated these days so I'll be trying to swing it. A few details to iron out but I'll keep watching (lurking) this space. BTW, re Buffyvision, you guys know Buffy got canned, eh? At least from Jays PBP--they hired Buck Martinez for the job. Buffy was last seen somewhere near Whistler looking for either a lift home or something to do.

  21. hmmm....

i'll see if i can make the trip.

if all goes well at the school of accountancy this summer, i could probably even show up for the day game, since i'll be off work at that time, studying for the UFE (uniform final exam)!

on a related baseball note, i've won the chance to purchase monstah seats! hoping to get some for the 7/31 weekend series vs. tigers, since thats basically the only time i'll have off in between accounting exams.

    ReplyDelete
  22. It'll be hard to not call it BuffyVision.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Oh yeah, I heard it's Buck MARtinez this year, I think Tim told me. I think the Buffyvision name will live on.

    hmmm....

i'll see if i can make the trip.

Ha ha. If you're not there, prepare to suffer the consequences. No steamed spinach for you!

    Cool! And jealous!

    Johnny Damon, eh.

  26. "i've won the chance to purchase monstah seats!"

You gonna shell out the $165 or go for the $35 SRO up there? I've always gotten the SROs and several times I've sat the whole game in seats. It's worth a shot if you can't justify spending as much as you might on a used car on baseball tix. But if you've got the $, by all means go for it!

Red Sox 2, Twins 1. The Magic Number for the Mayor's Cup is down to 6. Or 3 depending on how you look at it. Three wins away, anyway.

With the inception of Stub Hub and Ace tickets , we all have "won" that chance....I think I just pissed on tim's parade. sorry, bro.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Jere, the seats are super expensive....but its a little different for me. If I was in your situation and made it to a ton of games per year, SRO all the way.

But since its a big trip/"experience" I'm going to try and get some seats. Plus the last time we went and had SRO on the roof deck, it ended up being one of those stupid Dice-K 5 hour 9-inning games, and everyone was kinda turned off of the whole SRO thing.

Its one of those things, if I'm going to make the trip out there, may as well spend the extra money.

And I'm fiscally irresponsible when it comes to spending money on these things anyway, so seats it is!

    ReplyDelete
  29. When you travel to go to a game, and you don't have many opportunities to be in that city, it's really tough to go without tickets. We've only done that twice that I can remember (once at Fenway, once at Comiskey) but it's not fun.

We just had a similar thing with this year's Shakespeare Festival in Stratford. There are much cheaper tickets available day-of, but if we're only there on those two days, can we take a chance? (Answer: no.)

Tim: that's where we'll be on the All Star Break. :)

    ReplyDelete
  30. I would love to be a part of the California JOS Trip so keep me posted. Also - Zenslinger, I think Giants/Sox tickets are hard to come by but I have a friend who has two tickets for $70 each if you are interested.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I have a bigger question than mere quibbles about tickets or airfares:
Does the fact that we are associates of you two mean that we will be strip searched at the border and have our passports confiscated?

    ReplyDelete
  32. Does the fact that we are associates of you two mean that we will be strip searched at the border and have our passports confiscated?

    Ah, good question.

At this time, available evidence says no. But if you come to JoS2, we'll have more data points to study. :)

In mid-April, I will be crossing said border for the first time since The Incident. At that time we may learn whether the Incident was a one-time only performance or a long-running show.

anyone who uses those two sites without exhausting all other resources first is a complete moron. especially for red sox games. (see many posts by jere on that topic)

and shelling out $400 to some scalper for a monster seat doesn't exactly qualify as a "win" for me. buying legit tickets @ face value, now thats a different story.

L - that's awesome that you'll be in stratford, we will definitely have to come out for dinner and possibly a play! like i said last time, its always been on our list of things to do since moving to the area 5 yrs ago.

Morons , maybe......But yankee fans can actually find tickets below value.....but red sox tickets are quite pricey...

No, with the inception of those sites, we've all lost, because so many tix go to them instead of to real fans, and then they go and mark them up by a thousand percent. To get $165 Monster Seats at face value is a huge win. Tim, thanks for noticing my ticket posts, ha.

Oh, and 9casey, I posted some Holyland videos you may be interested in.

  36. Oh, and 4-0 Twins after 5. Bad day for Lester, two shutout innings for Wake, one for Bierd, one for Cabrera.

  44. Wow, I'd lve to make #2. Not sure at this time though. Actually, at THIS time, I'm sure not. The economy has caught up to my little business and money is tighter than tight.
If it loosens up a little this spring I would definitely be up for it. Guess it kinda depends on when you need a commitment by

We haven't figure that out yet. Luckily for us, Blue Jays tickets are always easy to get - although Red Sox and NYY games sell fastest. I think through my Rogers connection we should have plenty of time.

  46. Sosock, I had a feeling you might be up for making the drive - judging by how you hit the road after JoS1! It would be so great if you could get up here.

  47. Sittin...waitin...virtual waiting room sucks. Listening to some Hepcat...waiting...

I want my monstah seats for 7/17 vs. Texas! Decided the return of Johnny Damon (Tigers) was a shittier day/wknd than the 7/17 wknd.

And re: JoS 1 - I had to miss it for school reasons, studying for tax. Well, on the most recent exam, I did great on the tax part, so I guess it was worth it?

We knew that, and yes, worth it. Has to be.

    JoS2, however, that's another story. :)

  49. Still waiting....argh. Sooo annoying, especially when the fucking prompts come up that say the entire season has "very limited availability" or something to that effect.

I better get my goddamn monster seats.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Great system, red sox.

Two fucking hours in the virtual waiting room to find out that every game is sold out.

    Thanks.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Monster is a pretty small section--it's gonna sell out fast. I'm still redialing over and over for some SROs...I'm tellin' ya, with those you still can get a seat. If not for the whole game, definitely for the first/last innings.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Tim, also try calling the ticket office when they open Monday at 10, maybe they'll have some GM seats from people whose credit cards were declined or whatever. And just keep trying them periodically, especially leading u to the game you want, they always hold seats back. Monster will be tough though.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Tim--took me almost 2 hours of non-stop calling on a phone in each hand and a Skype on the computer, but I got my Monster SROs. For a Sunday game, too. Good luck getting your seats somehow....

    ReplyDelete
  54. I ended up getting through to them at about 3:30, and they had seats for weekday games, the last series vs. Baltimore, but figured a weekend game would be better for everyone's work schedules. (My mom and her husband would've been accompanying us on this trip).

Didn't want to get SROs, even if we could sit in someone elses seats for 1/2 the game....would rather go, knowing we have seats. Again, I don't care personally, the people I'm going with do more.

So, I'll probably just look for regular seats or maybe hold out for a roof deck table, would be a decent experience as well.

  55. So far I am going to Saturday and Sunday of the Giants series in San Francisco. I may be landing a new much higher paying job soon and if I do I plan on flying to Toronto for a game just for the JOS folks that live nearby.
