Red Sox Call Up SS Angel Sanchez; Scutaro Gets Cortisone Shot; Schoeneweis DFA

Marco Scutaro received a cortisone shot in his left (non-throwing) elbow before Wednesday's game and likely will be unavailable for two days. The Red Sox have called up Pawtucket shortstop Angel Sanchez, who will be in tonight's lineup.

Theo Epstein said Scutaro's "tennis elbow" has made it difficult for him to close his glove, which might be why he looked so bad on Slappy's routine grounder to start the ninth inning on Tuesday.

Sanchez played in eight games with the Royals in 2006; he is hitting .313/.375/.359 (36 of his 41 hits have been singles) for the PawSox. To make room for Sanchez, Scott Schoeneweis was designated for assignment.

Gordon Edes says Sanchez will be a temporary move and Scott Atchison will likely take the available chair in the bullpen.
