The Arizona Fall League began its season yesterday. Eight Red Sox prospects from AA and A are playing for the Peoria Javelinas, including pitcher Casey Kelly, catcher Ryan Lavarnway, and shortstop Jose Iglesias.
The others are pitchers Jason Rice, Seth Garrison, Eammon Portice, and Daniel Turpen, and outfielder Juan Carlos Linares.
Peoria lost its first game (box), but Linares went 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored, and Iglesias and Lavarnway each had a hit and an RBI. FWIW, Koby Clemens is also on the team.
Peoria plays 32 games over the next five weeks. Kelly is expected to throw a total of about 35 innings.
