G141: Red Sox 14, Blue Jays 0

Red Sox - 422 320 010 - 14 20 1
Blue Jays - 000 000 000 - 0 4 1
Marco Scutaro went 4-for-5 against his former team, with three doubles (coming in three consecutive innings) and four RBI (and a walk). David Ortiz also had four hits (two doubles, two singles) and scored three times; Adrian Gonzalez had three hits and three runs scored; and Nate Spears (0-for-2) made his major league debut, as Boston tied a season-high with 20 hits and pummeled Toronto 14-0.

It was the eighth game this season in which the Red Sox have scored at least 14 runs. Two of those games came on back-to-back days against the Blue Jays: 16-4 on June 11 and 14-1 on June 12. Three others came in one week in May. (Boston also had 20 hits on May 25 against Cleveland.)

The Red Sox hit nine doubles, the most in one game since they had nine against the Tigers on July 21, 2003.

Lester was brilliant (7-3-0-1-11, 100), biding his time on the bench during the carnage, and then going back out and mowing down the Jays. He tied his season-high with 11 strikeouts (May 3, Angels), and allowed only two runners past first base. He is the first Red Sox lefty since Lefty Grove (1936) to allow one or zero earned runs in five consecutive starts.

Kyle Weiland pitched the final two innings, facing seven batters and allowing one single.

Boston sent 35 men to the plate in the first five innings -- 957 86 -- two more than Toronto sent to the plate in the entire game (33).

The Red Sox's pitching staff has limited the Blue Jays to only one run and 10 hits in 20 innings.

Lester has allowed only one run in each of his last four starts (IP: 7, 6, 6, 5). ... Lester's last 10 starts, since June 30: 2.04 ERA. However, the Red Sox won only six of those 10 games.
