Cherington Catches A Carp

The Red Sox have acquired Mike Carp, who had been designated for assignment by the Mariners about a week ago.

Carp, 26, is a left-handed hitter who can play both first base and left field, and represents a better bench option than Lyle Overbay. After a strong 2011 season (.276/.326/.466), Carp slumped in 2012: .213/.312/.341 in 59 games.

Ryan Kalish was moved to the 60-day DL to make room for Carp.

  1. ... and in other news, Cafardo continues to be an asshat. He decided to spend his morning harassing Kevin Youkilis at MFY training camp because it's obvious that Sox fans want to continue beating dead horses.

[Youkilis] was a bit combative during our discussion, unwilling to discuss the April incident with Bobby Valentine that seemed to stain the relationship of player and manager for the remainder of his tenure in Boston.

“I’m not going to talk about Bobby. I’ve moved on, he’s moved on. I’m a New York Yankee in 2013 and that’s what I’m focusing on. I don’t think it does any good to rehash stuff like that. You have your opinion. You’re pretty adamant about what you thought, so go with it.”

Sure sounded like Youkilis hadn’t moved on, but he wasn’t about to engage in any more chit-chat about Valentine.

Did he even go back and look at what he wrote there? Is there nothing for Cafardo to report from Sox camp?

Another classic example of a "mediot..."

  2. Fish team!

Next on Cherington's radar: Tim Salmon? Catfish Hunter? Mike Trout? Roger Bernadina, aka The Shark?

Sorry, I could not resist... :-)

  3. FF: I posted that bit from Nick to SoSH's Cafardo thread earlier today, with this note: "Can Nick possibly be as tone-deaf as he appears? Can't he see that Yook was simply sick of answering Cafardo's bullshit let's-rehash-2012 questions?"

Meanwhile, someone like WEEI's Alex Speier is working his ass off, tracking down actual stories that are interesting and banging them out every single day.

    Cafardo is an embarrassment.
