Orioles - 101 001 000 - 3 7 0

With two outs in the bottom of the eighth, Jarrod Saltalamacchia doubled off the Wall. After an intentional walk to Stephen Drew, Mike Carp pinch-hit for Xander Bogaerts and flaired a single into short left field that scored Salty with the go-ahead run.

Boston tied the game in the seventh when Drew doubled, Jacoby Ellsbury singled, and Dustin Pedroia drove them both in with a groundball single to left. ... Lackey: 7.1-7-3-1-4, 92. Koji Uehara recorded his 14th save.

The Rays beat the Angels 4-1, so Boston's lead remains 2.5 games. Magic #: 28.

  2. Allan sometimes starts magic numbers in triple digits! Though not necessarily in public. :)

  3. Opening Day, it's 163!

But I probably should wait until September.

  4. Magic numbers terrify me! Didn't Carlton Fisk say one dreadful September that they were the first team to ever be mathematically eliminated while still in first place?

Still, this team has always surprised and not many of the surprises have been bad ones.

  5. We might have a better idea where we stand after we play the Rays on Sept 10-11-12 (but probably not). I would not be surprised to see this go down to the final weekend. Gotta win the division, because the one-game playoff to win the wild card is too scary.
