Ortiz: "It's A War. It's On."

David Ortiz is not happy with Rays pitcher David Price:
It's over. I have no more respect for him. Last year we kick his ass in the playoffs, he went off, talking shit about everybody, Tom Verducci and everybody. Players. We kind of got to talk on the phone. We kind of straightened things out. He was kind of upset. Me as a veteran I kind of let him know how things go in this game. Later on he called me and apologized because he knows he was wrong. He apologized in public. He apologized to myself. Everything was cool. So first at-bat of the season against him he threw at me. I mean, it's a war. It's on. Next time he hits me he better bring the gloves. I have no respect for him no more. ...

If you're mad because I take you deep twice ... it's part of the game, son. ...

I was surprised for a minute until I watched the video. I thought everything was cool. You can't be acting like a little girl out there. You aren't going to win every time. When you give it up, that's an experience for the next time. But when you're to be acting like a little bitch every time you give it up, bounce back like that and put your teammates in jeopardy, that's going to cost you. ...

He knows he screwed up. He did that on his own. No manager say anything to him. No player was comfortable with the situation. He did that on his own, which is bullshit. He can't get somebody out, he can't be doing that [expletive].

  1. Umpires said after the game they were warned beforehand from MLB offices in NYC that there could be trouble.
AND THEY STILL DID NOT EJECT PRICE IN THE 1ST?!??!?!

  2. Two tweets I saw on SoSH:

In pool report, umpires confirm they received a report from the MLB saying, "Heads up. This is what took place. Be ready for something."

Kellogg: "We aren't going to make a dec b/c we're worried about somebody losing control. We weren't going to throw him out to please Boston."

  3. Irresponsible, unprofessional umpires are willing to put players on both teams at risk for serious injury. Good work!

  4. Sadly none of this is surprising. At least the Sox won in the end. As long as nobody was hurt, the Sox got the best of it. I'm so not upset with a win in a Brandon Workman vs. David Price match up.

  5. I was reading comments on Over the Monster saying that it was usually a given that someone thrown out after warnings have been issued will also be suspended. That would be some hilarious salt in the wound if Workman were suspended. (Which would inevitably bring some sanctimonious "tisk tisk" comments from Maddon, which would be lemon juice added to that salt.)

"Shit... bullshit... [expletive]." That must be some expletive. Maybe "comma, motherfucker"?

  7. OTM clears it up:
"He did that on his own, which is bulls***. He can'€™t get somebody out, he can’€™t be doing that s***."

  8. Price didn't specifically say it but hinted that Ortiz was disrespecting the troops when he said "it's a war now." My response: Oh for fuck's sake.

  9. Price is so annoying.
On some level he must know what a fool he came off as last night, but instead of backing down he's trying to cover his tracks by doubling down on the pious self-righteousness. He's "offended" that Ortiz used the word "war?" How come he's not picketing every time a homerun is called a "bomb?" Isn't that disrespecting all the horrible victims of Hiroshima and/or suicide bombing attacks?

  10. Tweet from last October. More doucheyness from Price:

    "David Price ‏@DAVIDprice14 4 Oct

  11. "Trust me I don't want sympathy...I got beat tonight...so be it..I'll bounce back...3x ALLSTAR...2 time player choice...runner up cy...AND CY"

"Dirk Hayhurst...COULDNT hack it...Tom Verducci wasn't even a water boy in high school...but yet they can still bash a player...SAVE IT NERDS"

Yeah, David Price is just a humble ego-free dude. He shakes his head sadly when others think they're bigger than the game of baseball. He is bemused and wistfully sad when others clearly don't grasp the important things in life as Price does. Price is merely a humble soul on this little blue world, thankful and lucky to be a baseball player, but never forgetting the true heroes of this world: the soldiers, God, and baseball itself.

As a mature young man, he was taught at an early age that you just can't change the world all at once. You just have to try to reach out and counsel troubled souls like David Ortiz, touching lives one at a time, and pray that they find their own way.

"No you forgot CLEAN sweep of every college award...NEVER BEEN DONE RT @mbschultz74: @DAVIDprice14 you forgot Brooks Wallace award winner too"

"not bragging...you can google that..true fans understand..fake one don't..PERIOD RT @Yons18: @DAVIDprice14 This is the ultimate humble brag."

Sigh. The burden of being David Price. It's like Jesus himself has returned to earth to teach us the way of humility and maturity and apple pie.
