Fox Posts World Series Match-Up In 7th Inning Of ALCS Game 6

With two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning of ALCS Game 6, Alex Rios singled home Mike Moustakas, giving the Royals a 3-1 lead over the Blue Jays. So Fox - in its infinite wisdom - put this on the screen:

Jose Bautista took exception, and bashed a game-tying, two-run home run in the top of the eighth.

What proved to be the Royals' winning run was delivered in the eighth inning by Lorenzo Cain, who, for the second time in this postseason, scored from first base with less than two out, on an RBI single by Eric Hosmer. (That had previously happened in the fourth inning of the Royals' win over the Astros in Game Five of their Division Series matchup). Cain is the first player to score twice from first base on RBI singles in postseason play.

Kansas City's pitchers, all night long, were equal to the task of suffocating incipient rallies with runners in scoring position. Blue Jays batters went 0-for-12 in those at-bats, tying the major-league record for the largest 0-for with runners in scoring position in a postseason game in which a team was eliminated.

For the series as a whole, Toronto batted .190 (11 for 58) with runners in scoring position, while Kansas City batted .417 (20 for 48), the highest batting average with runners in scoring position by any team in major-league history in a postseason series of six-or-more games.

In the top of the ninth inning, trailing by 4-3, Blue Jays pinch-runner Dalton Pompey reached third base with none out on a pair of steals, but he was stranded there. After walking Kevin Pillar, Wade Davis struck out Dioner Navarro and Ben Revere and retired Josh Donaldson on a game-ending grounder to third. It marked the first time in postseason history that a team had been eliminated by losing a game by a one-run margin after putting the potential tying run on third base with none out in the final inning.

"Only 3 times all season did any team score the way the Royals did last night. 0 outs. Man on first. Comes all the way around to score on a single. The only 3 who did that: Alcides Escobar (6/15), Dustin Pedroia (5/11) & Brock Holt (5/23)."

  3. When they threw it to that weird studio show at the end of the game, the two host had made up a little skit to show what happened, with one of them telling the other to press a big yellow button ("trust me, just do it," etc.), which led to the errant graphic to appear.
