G140: Red Sox 13, Blue Jays 3

Red Sox - 112 100 602 - 13 18 1
Blue Jays - 002 000 010 - 3 9 2
The Red Sox had this one in the bag from the very beginning and the Rogers Centre rout gave Boston a two-game lead in the East.

Rick Porcello (7-6-2-1-7, 114) was The Man yet again, stumbling only in the third, but then allowing only one Blue Jays runner past first base over the next four innings.

Dustin Pedroia (3-for-4) knocked in four runs and Hanley Ramirez drove in three on a seventh-inning home run that hit off the top of the wall in right-center. ... Jackie Bradley scored three times. ... Every Boston starter got at least one hit and every starter scored a run except for Sandy Leon.

And in my last two times seeing David Ortiz bat in person, he legged out a double to right-center and lined a single to center.

Baseball Tonight, Twitter:
The gap between 1st place (Red Sox) and 4th (Yankees) in the AL East is smaller than the gap between 1st and 2nd in every other division.

TOR 1.0
BAL 2.0
MFY 4.0
The Red Sox have 23 games left to play, all against division rivals and 20 of them against teams competing for the same playoff spots:
7 against the Orioles
7 against the Yankees
6 against the Blue Jays
3 against the Rays
The Blue Jays have lost six of their last eight games. ... In the East: Orioles/Tigers and Rays/Yankees.

I'll be at Skydome tonight, for my one in-person Red Sox game of the season.

  1. Porcello has struck out 5.5 batters per walk, the best ratio in the majors.

  3. Will that be the last time you see Big Papi in person?

  4. Yes. ... Unless the Sox and Jays meet in the playoffs and I get tix.
