G32: Brewers 11, Red Sox 7

Red Sox - 100 030 120 - 7 12 1
Brewers - 500 103 20x - 11 13 1
Mookie Betts began the game with his fourth home run of the season; walks to Dustin Pedroia and Andrew Benintendi gave the Red Sox men on first and second with only one out. While they did not score any more runs in the inning, there were plenty of positive vibes.

Drew Pomeranz (4-7-6-2-2, 78) wiped away all of those good feelings by allowing a pair of two-run home runs in the bottom half. (In the span of only five pitches, he allowed three hits and three runs.) Eric Thames and Keon Broxton took the lefty deep, dumping the Red Sox in a hole they could not climb out of. (Boston closed the gap to 6-4 in the fifth, but stranded men at first and third.)

Betts reached base in all five of his plate appearances. He followed his first-inning home run with a single in the third, a run-scoring double in the fifth, a walk in the seventh, and another double that drove in two runs in the eighth. Betts scored twice and drove in four runs.

Benintendi had two singles, a double, and a walk, and two RBI. ... Xander Bogaerts extended his hitting streak to 12 games with a double in the seventh. ... Pedroia doubled and walked twice, but also hit into two double plays.

For the Brewers, Broxton had a Bettsian night, collecting a single, triple, home run, and HBP, scoring three times and driving in four runs.

NESN Notes: I remain stumped when it comes to figuring out what goes on in Dave O'Brien's head. In the top of the second, he stated: "Both of these starters are off to similar starts tonight." It was hard to square that statement with the very obvious fact that the score was 5-1. ... Then, in the bottom of the eighth, O'Brien told us that the Red Sox had neither led in this game nor been tied with the Brewers at any point.
