Pasadena Police Investigating Sexual Assaults By Dodgers Pitcher Trevor Bauer (Victim Was Punched Repeatedly In the Genitals And Suffered A Skull Fracture & Significant Facial Trauma)

A 27-year-old San Diego woman has accused Dodgers pitcher Trevor Bauer of raping her and assaulting her on two occasions (April 21 and May 15, 2021), including punching her repeatedly in the vagina and buttocks, and strangling her to the point where she lost consciousness multiple times. She also suffered "significant head and facial trauma", assault by manual strangulation, and showed signs of basilar skull fracture.

After the second encounter, the woman was examined at two hospitals, including by a nurse who specializes in sexual assault examinations. Photographs taken at that time show two black eyes, significant bruising and scratching to one side of her face, and a bloodied, swollen lip. A John Hopkins University webpage states that basilar skull fracture "is the most serious type of skull fracture, and involves a break in the bone at the base of the skull. . . . These patients usually require close observation in the hospital."

In her request for a domestic violence restraining order, the woman stated:

I am deeply concerned that no arrest has been made or charges led. . . . I am scared and in fear. I have not asked him to stop contacting me because I fear what he will do. . . .

I am terrified that he will again invite me to his home [and] how he will respond if I say no. I want Trevor to cease contacting me, entirely, I must ensure that he does not come to my home, or anywhere near me. . . . I have been diagnosed with PTSD and experience severe trauma. I am unable to sleep or eat. I am in constant fear. I am severely depressed and feel isolated and lonely. I am absolutely terrified of what will happen when all of this becomes public . . . Trevor has a large following of loyal fans who I fear will threaten me and resort to social media bashing. I am concerned about my safety.

Brittany Ghiroli and Katie Strang, The Athletic, June 30, 2021:
The woman, in the 67-page ex-parte document, said that Bauer assaulted her on two different occasions. . . .

The alleged assaults described by the woman, which are extremely graphic in nature, happened during what she said began as consensual sexual encounters between the two. . . .

She also said that, in one of those incidents, while unconscious, Bauer penetrated her anally, which she did not consent to in advance.

"I agreed to have consensual sex; however, I did not agree or consent to what he did next," she says. "I did not agree to be sexually assaulted." . . .

[Bauer's agent, Jon Fetterolf, issued a statement on Tuesday night:]

Mr. Bauer had a brief and wholly consensual sexual relationship initiated by [the woman] beginning in April 2021. We have messages that show [her] repeatedly asking for "rough" sexual encounters involving requests to be "choked out" and slapped in the face. . . . In the days following their second and final encounter, [the woman] shared photos of herself and indicated that she had sought medical care for a concussion. . . . Mr. Bauer and [the woman] . . . have not seen each other in over six weeks.  . . .

Bryan Freedman, the woman's attorney, said Wednesday in a statement to The Athletic: "Without going into detail for the benefit of both my client and Mr. Bauer, the pictures evidencing the unconsented abuse do not lie. Any suggestion that she was not the victim of assault is not only false and defamatory but, in fact, perpetuates the abuse." . . .

The woman . . . said that she underwent two medical examinations in connection with her injuries from the second encounter . . . the emergency room at the Alvarado Hospital Medical Center in San Diego on May 16, where she said she underwent rapid CT scans for her brain, face and neck. . . . [and] Palomar Health in Escondido, where she underwent a SART (sexual assault response team) exam by a nurse who specializes in sexual assault examinations. . . .

The Dodgers said in a statement they were made aware of the allegations against Bauer on Tuesday afternoon and "take any allegations of this nature very seriously."

Two days after learning of these allegations, the Dodgers posted this unfortunate tweet:

Bauer is still scheduled to pitch this Sunday.

A hearing has been set for July 23 (three weeks from today), at which time Bauer will have the opportunity to respond to the allegations.

A commenter at Defector's story about this states (my emphasis):

I help run a kink education group . . . Some notes here:

1) People cannot consent to things like concussions. . . .

4) Legally, Bauer's lawyers are idiots. There are half a dozen court cases about whether people can consent to the types of assault BDSM can be classified as. The answer is almost always no (People vs Samuels 1967, Doe v. Rector and Visitors of George Mason University 2016). People in the kink community who learn how to do this safely already know this. What we do is technically illegal. The defense that Bauer's attorneys are presenting will absolutely not fly.

In conclusion, Trevor Bauer should go to prison for this. He might not because the world protects people like him (imagine if this was some random non-white relief pitcher, how different this story might be handled), but he absolutely deserves it. The fact that he's trying to hide behind my community for this is infuriating, and the fact that his lawyer deliberately leaked her name is awful. Fuck him.

A few other comments (each paragraph is a separate comment):

There's just no way a professional athlete who specifically trains his arms to throw things hard punching an unconscious woman hard enough to cause a severe head injury falls under the umbrella of "rough sex" and not fucking unprovoked assault that should by all rights end with Bauer in a jail cell.

In what possible world does "liking it rough" give the green light to fracture someone's skull?

[Why was there a second encounter after the first ended in strangulation??] Because she assumed the first time could be chalked up to miscommunication, hence discussing a safe word for the next encounter. She probably did not figure that, having communicated that it was not ok to anally rape her while unconscious the first time, his next step would be to beat her senseless.

This happens more often than you think. At best, you're expecting cool, reasoned decision making from someone who went through trauma. At worst, you're blaming the victim. The blame for Bauer's behavior lies with him and him alone.

He's a scumbag and his lawyer (who really went old school with the "wait 3 days and then selectively release some texts that impugn her character but don't really disprove what she's saying" tactic) also deserves some piece of shit hall of fame votes.

Reports over the years indicate that Bauer is an asshole and a moron.

In January 2019, Bauer tweeted 80 times over a period of three days at a Texas State University senior after she called him her "least favorite person in all sports" on Twitter. Part of his harassment included digging through her Twitter feed for anything embarrassing he could share with his hundreds of thousands of followers. His excuse was deranged and included this gem: "I don't go out of my way to harass anybody."

After Bauer harassed a Jewish woman online, her Twitter feed was flooded with Holocaust jokes for months. Bauer has also mocked transgender people, spread lies about George Soros's background and Barack Obama's place of birth, suggested that some random person commit suicide and then acted like a snowflake when the tables were turned, and whined about how Twitter was (somehow) forcing anti-Trump articles into his phone. He voted for Trump in 2016.

  1. After reading this I can only hope that "karma" will return his actions upon him ?

Big Bad Barry in the Penitentiary might have some "rough plans" for Trevor ?

  2. UPDATE: Bauer has been placed on seven-day "administrative leave" by MLB (I read that as "not the Dodgers") while the league continues its investigation into sexual assault claims brought against him earlier this week.

I'm not into kinky sex by any stretch of imagination BUT I cannot imagine that anyone would tell their partner to give them a concussion. That's beyond perverted.

  3. I am into kinky sex and can tell you what he did was neither kinky nor sex.

I can put up with baseball players being assholes to a degree; they're not my friends. I didn't look into Bauer and over the last few years have just thought "Eh, big mouth, promoting himself, no big deal." No longer. Prison for this guy.
