G158: Red Sox 6, Orioles 0

Red Sox - 010 002 021 - 6 13 0
Orioles - 000 000 000 - 0 4 2

J.D. Martinez led the Red Sox on Wednesday night, going 3-for-4, with a single, double, and home run, two runs scored, and three runs batted in. Alex Verdugo added a lead-padding two-run single in the eighth inning.

Nathan Eovaldi (6-4-0-1-7, 90) was sharp, recording five of his first six outs by strikeout. He wriggled out of a jam caused by a leadoff double in the third, stranding the runner at third. He began the sixth by allowing a double and a walk, but retired the next three batters: F8, K, F8.

The Red Sox shot themselves in the foot early on, hitting into double plays in the first, third, and fifth innings.

Up in Toronto, the Blue Jays slapped Gerrit "The Ace" Cole around (6-9-5-0-6, 96), taking a 2-0 lead after two batters and expanding the score to 4-0 after three innings. The Yankees rallied and tied the game at 5-5 in the seventh. But Bo Bichette bopped his second home run of the night in the bottom of the eighth, giving the Canadians a 6-5 lead. The MFY had a one-out single in the ninth, but Gio Urshela and Tyler Wade were not clutch, both flying to center.

The Wild Card standings have four teams within two games of each other, with only four games left in the regular season (three for Seattle):

Yankees    90-68  +1.0
Red Sox    89-69   ---
Mariners   89-70   0.5
Blue Jays  88-70   1.0
