  1. Hey! Rick Ankiel hit two more home runs yesterday!

    ReplyDelete
  2. Made a good play in the outfield also. I don't remember where I saw it but the Cardinals waited until after the Trade deadline to call him up so that they could get an extended look at him without worrying about the DFA stuff.

    He is out of options!

    ReplyDelete
  3. Rick Ankiel is out of options in more ways than one. I'm happy for him.

(And I miss BBTN!!! I'd like to see of this...)

    ReplyDelete
  4. L, you can log into my mlbtv account and see the clips.

    ReplyDelete
  5. Thanks. I can't do that at work, and I never remember at home.

    ReplyDelete
  6. Ok, am listening to the Pre-game and Tom and Eck are saying that even if the Sox continue playing at this .667 (14-7) rate and the Yankees continue playing at the rate they are playing, ths Sox will be caught.

Give me a break do they really think the spankees are going to continue playing at a .761 clip?

    ReplyDelete
  7. During this however long stretch, the MFY have put up something like a .960 OPS as a team.

    !!!!!!!!!!!!!

That is like the entire team is hitting like Vlad G (5th in the AL in OPS).

    ReplyDelete
  8. We keep winning and take 4 of 6 from them and we are fine.

    ReplyDelete
  9. It's truly unbelievable.

Still the best record in MLB.

Still the largest lead of any division leader.

And people -- people who follow this shit for a living -- are acting like the season is over and we're out in the cold. (And dumb fans too.)

WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH THESE FUCKING IDIOTS?????????????????

(I think I answered my own question)

    ReplyDelete
  10. What amazed me was they mentioned that the Sox had won 14 of 21, but still, it was like, the Sox have to do what the Yankees are doing because they are just killing everybody, good pitching etc.

I mean I know Eck was on the 78 team just like Remy, (who it seems like every other game mentions the collapse), but geez!

    ReplyDelete
  11. Tom and Eck are saying that even if the Sox continue playing at this .667 (14-7) rate and the Yankees continue playing at the rate they are playing (.761), ths Sox will be caught.

I just did the math and they are wrong.

Sox are 70-46 and if they play their last 46 games at a .667 pace, they will finish 101-61.

NY is 65-51 and if they play their last 46 games at a .761 pace, they will finish 100-62.

Sox will still win the East by 1 game.

    Come on NESN, wake up!

    ReplyDelete
  12. Dear NESN:

It's simple fucking multiplication. Try it sometimes and stop yakking out of your ass.

    ReplyDelete
  13. the Sox have to do what the Yankees are doing because they are just killing everybody, good pitching

Okay, so beat every team 18-3.

Thank god for NESN! You can't that kind of insight and analysis just anywhere, you know.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Seriously. Is anyone from NESN reading this? Why are you so lame?

Red Sox fans deserve more. Much more.

    ReplyDelete
  15. You know it's not like the Sox are stinking up the place.
    Runs- 3rd AL 4th MLB
    RA - 1st AL, 2nd MLB
    BA - 5th AL, 6th MLB
    OBA - 1st AL 4th MLB
    HRs - 9th AL 17th MLB
    HRa - 3rd AL 6th MLB
    ERA - 1st AL 2nd MLB

Except for the Home Runs those are outstanding rankings.

    ReplyDelete
  16. And where are my goddamn lineups?

    Arggggg...

    ReplyDelete
  17. From MLB, because the Globe is asleep:

    Sox:

    DP 4
    Yook 3
    Flo -
    MBM 7
    JD 8
    Dr. D 5
    Tek 2
    Hinske 9
    Lugo 6

    Baltimore:

    who cares.

    ReplyDelete
  18. You have to remember this is in the discussion part where they are free lancing. Eck probably hasn't worked the figures.

Finally something I agree about, the Ace of the spankees is Wang.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Eck probably hasn't worked the figures.

So he doesn't do any prep work for the show? Just admires his hair beforehand and then wings it?

    No excuse.

    ReplyDelete
  20. do they really think the spankees are going to continue playing at a .761 clip?

It's like they've never seen baseball before.

I just did the math and they are wrong.

    Math is an amazing thing.

I guess they think it gets viewers, listeners, sells ad space.

You guys could try doing what I do: just watch the games, and nothing else. (And my one "somethign else" (BBTN) isn't available in Canada!)

    ReplyDelete
  21. Just admires his hair beforehand and then wings it?

Heh, a pun - his hair is "winged". I know you guys love Eck, but I cannot take a man with hair like that seriously.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Stat for the Day - Papelbon is now 8th on the All Time list for Saves with 62. Next up is Tom Gordon at 68.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Please no first-pitch hacking today.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Trachsel - no fooling around with this guy today, lets hit him and him hard.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Please no first-pitch hacking today.

Maybe a few times, otherwise it'll be a 6 hour game.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Good god, somebody is walking in the stands with a hot dog outfit on that says Rem Dog. Pray tell me Remy paid for this guy to do that!

    ReplyDelete
  27. Never underestimate what some people will do to get on TV.

    ReplyDelete
  28. The Courant is saying that Coco has sore legs and the flu, so he is getting the day off. Was wondering why he was sitting.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Globe is saying that Beckett and Schilling will not pitch the double header. Amalie Benjamin is speculating that Buchholz, since he is starting today would be the other pitcher beside Beckett.

    ReplyDelete
  30. What?! A day off??!! Never!! No one gets a day off! I'd play every day for free, blah blah blah...

No fair ragging on someone who's not here, I guess.

    ReplyDelete
  31. 2nd and 3rd with 1 out, HERE WE GO RED SOX!

    ReplyDelete
  32. alright boys - enuff with the hacking.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Twor great plays on Tek and Lugo prevent the runs from scoring. Diving Leap by Mora to end the inning. GRRRRR

    ReplyDelete
  34. Fragging Lugo - That was a double play ball.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Bos: 00
    Bal: 01

    &

    NYY: 000 2
    Cle: 000

This means we've been elimnated from post-season play, right?

    When's Truck Day 2008?

    ReplyDelete
  36. Lucky they only got the one run thanks to Slugo. Right through the 5 hole.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Number 1 reason why Pedroia should not be ROY, he is slower than an armadillo.

    ReplyDelete
  38. re ROY, speed is not necessarily a factor. how he compares to other rookies, overall, is what counts. no?

    ReplyDelete
  39. Doubled and then on a passed ball tried to take third. Only the ball went like 2 feet from the catcher and he was out by 30 feet.

    ReplyDelete
  40. figured it was a wayward pitch, gameday didn't say he was stealing.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Did you forget to say he knocked in 2 runs?

    ReplyDelete
  42. Why yes, yes I did, but Sock is watching gameday so figured he saw that!

Q: Looking at Emergency room bill- anybody know what an - e.d. prof. level IV charge is?

    ReplyDelete
  43. i was only asking about the out.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Roberts drops the ball on Payton's throw so Varitek's single becomes a double!

    ReplyDelete
  45. Split fingered fastball and Slugo comes through! 4 doubles in 7 hits, Drew has two of the singles!

    ReplyDelete
  46. re ROY, speed is not necessarily a factor. how he compares to other rookies, overall, is what counts. no?

Yes that is what counts but if he had Varitek or Mirabelli speed he would have a hit today.

    ReplyDelete
  47. at least he made up for that E.
looks like the MFY are almost done pissing all over the never-scoring-runs indians

    ReplyDelete
  48. MFY 3 - we suck cleveland indians - 0 after 6. Suckettes are 0 for 12 RISP.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Catch me up? Work idiots (workiots?) interrupted.

    ReplyDelete
  50. anybody know what an - e.d. prof. . . . charge is?

A professor who can't get it up, but asks people to pay for it anyway?

    ReplyDelete
  51. leadoff double tek
    one out double lugo.

    3-1

    ReplyDelete
  52. It's amazing how the Indians can't play against the Yankees this year. You should have heard (or maybe you did) the Cleveland announcers last night. They are so in love with the Yanks.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Slugo doubled in a run and Schill has still only given up one hit. Other than that it's been uneventful.

    ReplyDelete
  54. thanks

all the idiots are here today. some who i thought were not idiots turn out to be so.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Ah, the Sluugo hate is working! :)

    ReplyDelete
  56. since im in Brooklyn, i get YES.
am i the only sox fan who actually likes michael kay? his radio show blows away anything on eei.
but the problem is that he basically re-does his radio show during games.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Strand those runners. Nice escape by schill.

    ReplyDelete
  58. am i the only sox fan who actually likes michael kay?

    yes

his radio show blows away anything on eei.

his radio show makes me rethink my opposition to censorship. i think it's the worst piece of crap on the air.

    ReplyDelete
  59. ha. his interviews are good tho...

    ReplyDelete
  60. am i the only sox fan who actually likes michael kay?

you are the only living being in the universe that likes michael kay.

    ReplyDelete
  61. indians: 3 runs in the last 24 innings. great

    ReplyDelete
  62. I actually don't mind Kay as an announcer, but I have never listened to his radio station, so I have no idea whether it would be good or bad.

    ReplyDelete
  63. his radio show makes me rethink my opposition to censorship.

his continued existence makes me rethink my opposition to the death penalty.

    ReplyDelete
  64. have you ever heard him broadcast a sox-yanks game?

    ReplyDelete
  65. He's fine as an announcer. That's not what most people hate about him.

    ReplyDelete
  66. his radio show makes me rethink my opposition to censorship.

his continued existence makes me rethink my opposition to the death penalty.

I set you up for that one. :)

    ReplyDelete
  67. I'd rather listen to McCarver, Berman and Morgan for every game than Kay.

    ReplyDelete
  68. " That's not what most people hate about him."
what is it then? im just curious...

    ReplyDelete
  69. all the idiots are here today. some who i thought were not idiots turn out to be so.

    She does not mean here!

    ReplyDelete
  70. Yes I have heard him announce a Yanks Sox game. He doesn't get me up in arms, but that was usually because Stirling had my blood boiling so bad that he sounds almost sane.

Of course Waldman and Stirling must be a real treat now (oh, my god its the most...).

    ReplyDelete
  71. indians bases loaded no outs. lets see how they fuck this up...

    ReplyDelete
  72. got lots of chores today so i'll be in and out, but just wanted to make sure everyone saw this before they all hit the bob ryan panic button:

    from SOSH:
The yankees have a .947 team OPS. "They're basically hitting as though the entire team was a little (.004) worse than Vlad Guerrero."

    unsustainable???
    :)

    ReplyDelete
  73. jesus, bases loaded and they pick they guy off at first!

    ReplyDelete
  74. Oh by the way- that was after the break.

    ReplyDelete
  75. from SOSH:
The yankees have a .947 team OPS. "They're basically hitting as though the entire team was a little (.004) worse than Vlad Guerrero."

I mentioned this in comment #7!

    Can't last. Won't last.

    ReplyDelete
  76. they got 1.

    brak brak got pciked off.

    ReplyDelete
  77. She does not mean here!

omg of course not. i'm at work. these are workiots.

    ReplyDelete
  78. Now, what anyone has against John Sterling I'll never understand. I like his announcing quite a lot.

    ReplyDelete
  79. Varitek just missed an RBI double, I mean the dust of the dust of the chalk flies up.

A professor who can't get it up, but asks people to pay for it anyway?

Everybody is a comedian(ne). Seriously though since it was almost $400 on the bill I guess I'll have to call and see what the frag it is.

    ReplyDelete
  80. shit like:

"whatta ya know, it's robby cano"

every. single. time. he gets a nice hit.

    ReplyDelete
  81. ok 1st and 3rd let us get some more boys! Roberts just missed getting to it though.

    ReplyDelete
  82. Broken bat double play to the pitcher, Hinske may be slower than Pedroia. Trachsel looked Lowell back to third and still got the DP.

    ReplyDelete
  83. Everybody is a comedian

    Everyone tries, anyway. :)

    No feminine suffix needed, btw.

    ReplyDelete
  84. Got to see the replay on this - Lugo is showing the Home plate Umpire where he got hit and yet they aren't giving him first base. Hard to tell on the replay.

Strike two, and now sLugo is really pissed.

    ReplyDelete
  85. sterling's got a catchphrase or identical way to call every sngle, every double, every home run.

but every baseball play is different, so if someone is broadcasting as though he's reading from script, that's horrible.

    ReplyDelete
  86. No feminine suffix needed

After reading your comment at dugout I am almost afraid of pissing you off!!! ;)

    ReplyDelete
  87. my fav is "that was very A-Rodian"

    ReplyDelete
  88. sterling's got a catchphrase or identical way to call every sngle, every double, every home run.

And this differs from Don Orsillo how?

    ReplyDelete
  89. After reading your comment at dugout I am almost afraid of pissing you off!!! ;)

    Almost? ;-)

I'm not picking on you. I'm "educating". :)

    ReplyDelete
  90. Have to admit, Schilling really looks like he is throwing smooth and easy this game! Still, no strike outs though.

    ReplyDelete
  91. No Ks are ok. However he wants to get the outs is fine. Ks take more pitches anyway.

    ReplyDelete
  92. Sock, watch your bp - 82 pitches for Schilling and Timlin is warming up in the pen.

    ReplyDelete
  93. aa-oo-gah! aa-oo-gah!

    WHITE FLAG SIGHTING FROM S1C

    ReplyDelete
  94. Joe Castig - is saying that the three game series set a Camden Yard attendance record. 48,485 today, 40 thousand being RSN.

    ReplyDelete
  95. I'm partial to Jeterian.

Orsillo got 'em too, but they are different. "Gets the bad news" and stuff like that is different than "a fast strike" or that was "6 inches from being a home run" (a common one from years back).

Sterling is describing actual events on the field, DO is offering after-the-fact commentary.

Also, Sterling calls the game assuming you are watching TV with the radio on. If you've got only a radio, you'll miss a lot of wehat a radio guy should tell you.

    ReplyDelete
  96. Orsillo got 'em too, but they are different. "Gets the bad news" and stuff like that is different

Yeah. It's coming from a Red Sox announcer.

Also, Sterling calls the game assuming you are watching TV with the radio on. If you've got only a radio, you'll miss a lot of wehat a radio guy should tell you.

That's bad. However, in listening to games as we are driving around the US, I noticed that nearly everyone does this except Vin Scully. It must be very hard to avoid when working with a TV monitor in front of you.

    ReplyDelete
  97. When Don starts using phrases like

    "Bern babe Bern"
    "Bam-tino"
    "Georgie's juiced one"
"Whatta ya know, it's Robby Cano"
    "It's an A-Bomb for A-Rod"

and many others i have thankfully forgotten

every single fucking night, we can talk.

    ReplyDelete
  98. Remy saying he expects Okajima to be warming up now. Schilling 92 pitches / 70 strikes. H probably will be pulled.

    ReplyDelete
  99. oh and who can forget the giambino!

i wonder why sterling doesn't ever say "and Giambi's juiced one" ....

    hmmmm.

    ReplyDelete
  100. Well, we can talk now. We just disagree. :)

Some announcers appeal to people or drive others crazy, and there's no real rationale for it, it just is. A friend of ours (occasional poster here) said he hates Vin Scully. I couldn't believe it. How could anyone hate The Best Announcer? So there ya go.

    ReplyDelete
  101. you want the ghost of ruth to seriously haunt your team?

keep throwing phrases like "bamtino" and "giambino" around.

    ReplyDelete
  102. Re Scully: I have seen in print what Vin said during the ninth inning of one of Koufax's no-hitters.

Forget great announcing, it was superb writing! All off the cuff, as the action unfolded. Amazing!

    ReplyDelete
  103. TG - Trachsel finally pulled - the man is worse than mussina when some one is on base.

    "Giambi's juiced one

Because he is the biggest freaking homer I've ever heard in my life!

    ReplyDelete
  104. Because he is the biggest freaking homer I've ever heard in my life!

I actually think Don & Jerry are just as bad. I know most disagree. I mostly like Don, but they are both super homers.

    ReplyDelete
  105. Well, it is pretty much assured that Drew and MBM will set career highs in GIDP's this year.

    ReplyDelete
  106. Only 1 K in the entire game.

    Yook looking in the 4th.

    ReplyDelete
  107. I think Remy is awful. To me, the constant in-game commercials for his own shit is worse than anything Michael Kay or John Sterling have to offer.

I have a problem with advertising, I loathe its constant presence in our game, and to have an announcer advertise his own crap under the guise of cutsey fan community is beyond the pale.

    ReplyDelete
  108. I don't mind homers on tv, because I can see the action and can make up my own my mind about the worthiness of the call. On the radio though, if some one is being a homer makes it hard for me to really imagine the action.

    ReplyDelete
  109. Only 1 K in the entire game.

    Yook looking in the 4th.

    And called! Wow.

    ReplyDelete
  110. Eeesh, sorry Redsock, I knew you would beat me to the punch! I was rushing out the door ;)

    Schill coulda pitched worse...

    ReplyDelete
  111. Jeemer warming up in the pen.

6 IP 0 ER's, 92 pitches - Give me 8 more of those from schill and I will be more than pleased.

    ReplyDelete
  112. Do not let White Flag go more than 1 inning. Please!

    ReplyDelete
  113. The percentage of time Remy spends analyzing the actual play on the field must be the lowest of any color guy.

    ReplyDelete
  114. Who wouldn't?
And even more pleased when the next inning is timlin and it's 1-2-3

    ReplyDelete
  115. Good point re radio vs tv homerism.

    ReplyDelete
  116. GOOD NEWS
less than 10 appearances for timlin until 1000, which means ideally we see him less than 10 more times

    ReplyDelete
  117. Oka and the Canuck warming up. Timlin will most likely be yanked.

    ReplyDelete
  118. Is there any debate about the 9th?

    Dimmer or Bot?

    ReplyDelete
  119. 5-3 in the bot 9th, 2nd and 3rd 1 out in cleveland. Rivera pitching

    ReplyDelete
  120. Redsock: I have not heard anything that would state differently than papelbon. you?

    ReplyDelete
  121. haven't seen the Bot warming up, 2 outs in cleve.

    ReplyDelete
  122. anyone scared? i feel like gange's redemption is in order.

    ReplyDelete
  123. Sizemore struck out, Blake flies out to left and theeeee Yankeeeees Winnnnn.

    ReplyDelete
  124. fucking indians, tying runs on 2nd and 3rd and NO OUTS! and they cant get any runs in the 9th. yanks win... fuckers

    ReplyDelete
  125. Doesn't matter if the Yankees win, as long as we win, which we will. Which means still five games up.

    Re gagne, not scared.

    ReplyDelete
  126. Cleveland had the tieing run at 2nd with no outs. Did not score another run.

    ReplyDelete
  127. Bot up and warming. c'mon you crazy canuck.

    ReplyDelete
  128. People talk about how good Sizemore is all the time, I am still waiting to see him make a meaningful contribution with that talent.

    ReplyDelete
  129. 95 mph on that pitch to Tajada.

    ReplyDelete
  130. just thought that with snuffer yesterday, maybe closer jr. would go today --in the 9th that is.

    ReplyDelete
  131. Fragging canuck. Right down the middle of the plate at 93mph.

    ReplyDelete
  132. fuckety fuck

    had to be tehodder too

    ReplyDelete
  133. Is someone paying him to blow games?

    ReplyDelete
  134. People talk about how good Sizemore is all the time, I am still waiting to see him make a meaningful contribution with that talent.

    Waiting?

Only 2 full seasons -- OPS+ of 125 and 135. 122 so far this year.

If he'd like to keep doing what he doe sin Boston, I'll drive Ococ to the airport. Now.

    ReplyDelete
  135. So i guess gange didn't read moneyball.....DONT PITCH DOWN THE MIDDLE TO TEH HODDY

    ReplyDelete
  136. Gagne knew it was gone as soon as it was hit.

    ReplyDelete
  137. Sizemore has been fantastic. What makes you think otherwise?

    ReplyDelete
  138. Redsock: no kidding. he's good in the clutch, too.

    ReplyDelete
  139. here we go, home run from slugo, then bot finishes it off.

    ReplyDelete
  140. Better be pinch running for Hinske!

    WTF!!!

    ReplyDelete
  141. did my gameday freeze? what's up?

    ReplyDelete
  142. help! help! i still have hinske with 2 strikes

    ReplyDelete
  143. If Slugo hadn't have attempted bunts it would be 3-0 count.

    FRAGGG.

    ReplyDelete
  144. Hinske reached on HBP, Slugo attempted two bunts then flew out to deep left field.

    ReplyDelete
  145. I was just irked at Sizemore striking out in that situation. He is enormously talented and having a great season. However, he is hitting .184 in late innings and .288 with runners in risp (which is pretty good, I admit) overall.

    ReplyDelete
  146. matt, everyone strikes out in big situations. you can't judge anything by that.

    ReplyDelete
  147. Look, I know I can't judge by that. Please take a grain of salt with what I said in one emotional situation. I recognize the talent of the player.

    ReplyDelete
  148. *whimper*

    gameday completely dead

    ReplyDelete
  149. turned on mlbtv

looks like dusty flew out to medium LCF

    ReplyDelete
  150. OPS late and close is 836 with a bad babip, 2 outs RISP 967 with a good babip....

    anyway about those sox

    ReplyDelete
  151. this is bizarre! hinske stolen base?

    ReplyDelete
  152. Pedroia flew out to CF, Hinske just stole second base though on a very close call.

    ReplyDelete
  153. Youk up to bat with a 1-0 count.

    ReplyDelete
  154. hinske was dead at second -- and they called him safe. horrible out of position ump could not see the tag at all.

don't waste this xmas gift yook.

    ReplyDelete
  155. that was not close at all at second. his foot was 3 feet from the bag when the tag was on.

i was all ready to fume about a CS to end the game -- and then he got the call!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  156. end the inning, i mean.

    still tied.

    ReplyDelete
  157. I fall asleep and wake up to the Coors Light Cold Blast - we gave away decent prospects for this piece of shit?

    ReplyDelete
  158. MDC in the game.

    1-2 ccount to Mora.

    ReplyDelete
  159. I like MDC here...this game to me means nothing anymore, so I just want to see MDC prove it.

    ReplyDelete
  160. Jay 'season ending shoulder surgery this week' Gibbons PHing for Bako.

    ReplyDelete
  161. i wonder why the game doesn't mean anything. sure means something to me.

    ReplyDelete
  162. First pitch to that batter- changeup? it had screwball movement from my perspective.
    anyone?
