ALDS 3: Red Sox 9, Angels 1

RED SOX SWEEP ALDS!
Red Sox - 000 200 070 - 9 10 0
Angels - 000 000 001 - 1 8 0
Schilling was superb (7-6-0-1-4, 100).

Ortiz and Manny hit back-to-back home runs to start the fourth.

After Schilling got out of a small jam in the 7th, Boston sent 11 men to the plate in the top of the eighth: Lugo walked, Pedroia doubled to left (3-0), Youkilis hit a sac fly to center (4-0), Ortiz singled to left, Manny walked and Ellsbury pinch-ran, Lowell doubled to left (5-0), Drew hit into a FC, no out (6-0), Varitek doubled to left center (7-0), Crisp singled to center (9-0), Lugo popped to first, and Pedroia grounded into a FC at second.

ALCS 1 is Friday at Fenway!

***

Curt Schilling (3.87, 118 ERA+) / Jered Weaver (3.91, 111 ERA+)

Manny Ramirez: "Even when you don't feel good and you get hits, like I said, you're a bad man."

Dustin Pedroia's left shoulder seems fine. He took batting practice on Saturday. Terry Francona: "He's fine. Actually, we expected him to be a little more tender than he was."

Jeeezeee Louise, Oki, you are up 9-0 throw freaking strikes. (not complaining I just want to watch the post game that much sooner)!!!

laura k said...

i don't think there should be pressure on jeemer to preserve the shut-out. all we have to do is win, which we will, and then some.

shut-outs are nice, but if a run scores, it doesn't matter.

Amy said...

I like Schilling also. No one responded to my question about whether he should be number 2 in the ALCS.

laura k said...

hi sg! glad you could make it.

allan and i weren't here for the most of the game either. (we're both at work.)

laura k said...

i'm not a big schilling fan, but i sure love him today

thatdietcokegirl said...

shutout preserved ;)

Amy said...

I also don't care about the shutout. Just a motivating comment to help Oki along (as if he hears me...) But still nice to see Coco catch the ball anyway.

s1c said...

Sorry, meant to earlier. He will be the number two starter in the ALCS. This game will be the final nail in the coffin to Daisuke being the #2 guy talk.

Rob said...

RS, they're talking off-season.

Haha.

Amy said...

Hi, Sarah. Hope the floor refinishing went smoothly (no pun intended). Glad you are back to see the ninth and the champagne!

s1c said...

Well, everyone has some faults (j/k ;) )

laura k said...

"But still nice to see Coco catch the ball anyway."

oh yeah!

laura k said...

did yook just get a hit? mlb-tv disappeared for a minute. they must be angels fans. ;-)

allan said...

"camera not available"

WTF MLBTV?

Amy said...

Thanks, S1C. I think that's right. Guess we will see Terry answering that question soon.

Another hit to start the ninth.

Is the Yankee game going to be threaded here?

Amy said...

Yes, Youk on first.

allan said...

it's back.

...

HENDU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

he was papi before papi was papi.

laura k said...

damn, i have work again. see you all after the last out.

Amy said...

Hinske in for Ortiz...guess Terry feeling pretty comfortable with the 9 run lead.

allan said...

i checked yesterday and there has never been three 3-0 DS sweeps in one season before.

hoping to make it 4 tonight

allan said...

GAGNE coming in!!!!

Amy said...

Three more outs! Has any team EVER in MLB scored ten runs in the bottom of the ninth to win a game? I bet not (but I bet Redsock will know for sure).

laura k said...

allan, i was about to ask you that very question, re ds sweeps.

Rob said...

Gagné in the dim this series to a close.

Benjamin said...

Well, Gagne always did want to pitch in the ninth in the playoffs.

Sarah Haendler said...

if a run scores, it doesn't matter.

What a lovely statement to be able to make.

allan said...

Is the Yankee game going to be threaded here?

I would like that.

allan said...

got the earphones in for the last of the 9th.

let's get 'em, eric!

s1c said...

I would like that

ISH- you up for it? I will!!

Amy said...

That was cute---looked like Youk saw the ball coming down, but it never did. Must be the California sun.

allan said...

theo playing a video game in the stands????

:>)

Sarah Haendler said...

And yes, Amy, the floor is well finished. Quite smooth, both the floor and the day!

allan said...

another leadoff double -- yawn -- and pffft.

Amy said...

Well, even Gagne wouldn't be able to give up ten runs here, so let him give up this hit. But really, let's not prolong the agony for the Angels.

thatdietcokegirl said...

theo playing a video game in the stands????

i thought he was texting ppl. but it would be awesome if he was playing some mobile game.

there goes the shutout.

but yah WHO CARES??

allan said...

that ball 2 looked nice.

dont fuck him ump.

Amy said...

So much for the shutout. Not that we care.

allan said...

huge roar for the 1 run. hahahaha

David said...

I go outside for 2 minutes and already Gagne gives up a run - WTF?

Sarah Haendler said...

Well, they won't go completely silent into that good offseason...

allan said...

angels not at 100% this series -- boo hoo.

Benjamin said...

The rally signs are adorable.

nixon33 said...

laura k said...

(And what a crew here!!)

allan said...

a bit more more subdued that i expected.

Amy said...

Wow, switched to the Yankees awfully fast. To see Jeter make a bad throw. No post-game celebrations? Guess I will check NESN.

Benjamin said...

that's what i just did. pretty sure it will all be on there. tbs always does that, they cut right away.

Amy said...

Yes, it did seem subdued. But then they are not at home, the starting pitcher wasn't on the mound, and TBS switched away in a nanosecond.

Nothing on NESN yet, FYI.

Amy said...

Now post game on NESN

It would be fun to take the Concorde from LA to NY just in time to chant 'RAHHHHH-GGGGGER!'

I had a good laugh at this.

...

Did Cleveland bring some gnats with them?

Jim said...

Well, it was close for 7. Some clutch stuff by Schill when he had to. Good pile-on by the offense to give Gagne a chance to play. ALCS opens in Fenway FRI. night. Goddam made for TV skeds.

GO Indians. Humiliate Fat Billy so that he waves goodbye once and for all.

Amy said...

Well, Rice is on the post game. I know someone here can't stand when he does the post game.

Meanwhile, the guys are opening the liquor in the clubhouse.

Remy says it felt like 10-0 even when it was 2-0. Didn't Nixon say something like that? Hey, you could do the post game show.

allan said...

Any NESN bits would be cool.

Pronk walks -- let's get some runs against Tubby early.

s1c said...

Didn't give jetes the error. Thats because he is CI!

Amy said...

Nothing too exciting yet on NESN. Remy says game seemed flat, Angels, that is. Just a lot of yakking. Nothing terribly interesting.

allan said...

At MLB's scoreboard, there will be video of each half inning. Soon. Click on the linescore.

Gotta check out the dongs when they are up.

Sarah Haendler said...

It would be fun to take the Concorde from LA to NY just in time to chant 'RAHHHHH-GGGGGER!'

I'll meet you on the platform outside the stadium...

Ofer said...

Amy said...

So how's Roger doing? I see two men on base. How'd the second guy get on?

allan said...

Gonna go celebrate with a can of diet ice tea!!!

laura k said...

Humiliate Fat Billy so that he waves goodbye once and for all.

And goddess knows he can take a lot of humiliation.

Amy said...

OK, guys are spraying each other in the clubhouse. Pap making some rather suggestive moves with the champagne bottle, if you catch my drift. Just a few seconds of shots of the clubhouse so far.

thatdietcokegirl said...

Well, Rice is on the post game. I know someone here can't stand when he does the post game

hehe, he is a bit like watching paint dry. but, he always looks goood. the man knows how to dress (as alot of black fellows seem to do;))

allan said...

can't tell from mlbtv -- how calm are ci's eyes?

laura k said...

Past a diving, well, you know.

Rob said...

Another Manny interview on the radio.

allan said...

sizemore 4-3

peralta FC to CI

27 pitches for FB.

thatdietcokegirl said...

i think papelbon is being a party pig again ;)

laura k said...

Amy, go on and watch the game. We'll see everything on DVD eventually.

Benjamin said...

Jeter throwing error inexplicably scored as a single puts Cabrera on first. Hafner walks. Martinez lines out. Garko singles in a ground ball to center past a diving asshole, scoring Cabrera.

s1c said...

tdcg - an eye for the obvious (bot, party pig)

j/k

thatdietcokegirl said...

they really aren't showing *that* much in the clubhouse. it's more like tc, remy and rice talking. no clubhouse interviews as per usual ;)

Amy said...

Thanks, Redsock, for the info.

Back to clubhouse, still lots of champagne in the eyes.

Tina with Terry: Gratifying to watch Schilling. We played good baseball. Winning is huge. A big WE day. Being around these guys makes me happy.

Rob said...

HA!

JETER GIDP

s1c said...

CI bounces into DP!!!!

nixon33 said...

CI DP

Benjamin said...

Two days after the bugs attacked Joba, nobody could have predicted that Jeter would ground into that doubleplay.

David said...

Jeter - GIDP...Love it!

Amy said...

DVD? What DVD? Plus with Yankees losing already, my husband is better off not watching me watching the game. We are going to get something to eat in a few, but I should be back for the end of that game. (My husband just cannot stand the tension of these games; he's just a sweet ol' guy who would rather not watch then watch them lose.)

Ron said...

Cleveland up a run now, anyone see how it happened? I was watching NESN.

thatdietcokegirl said...

i'm now having a celebratory lager and lime.

laura k said...

I have a very important question.

HOW ARE WE GONNA MAKE IT TIL FRIDAY?????

Rob said...

The players don't have goggles this go-round.

Amy said...

Chief, see Redsock's summary above.

What do we call the team that wins the DS? We already won the Division, so it can't be division winner. I guess Division series winner.

Rob said...

HOW ARE WE GONNA MAKE IT TIL FRIDAY?????

I have NO idea!

Ron said...

Disregard my question re: Cleveland run. Must have been a backlog for approvals.

Amy said...

Laura, I was wondering that myself.

allan said...

Friday is a long way away!

Maybe watch some 2004 videos?

Rob said...

Trot Nixon starting the game tonight!

Lowell---such a genteel and modest guy. Unlike a 3Bman for the MFY.

allan said...

7?

4.

s1c said...

Rem dawg - mfY might be the easier opponent in the ALCS. Nobody on the MFY compares to C.C. and Carmona.

I don't care, we will beat those guys like a drum!!!!

nixon33 said...

Amy said...

Theo: Team managed to be really loose. The name of the game was execution. From start to bottom, we executed. Schilling performed remarkably well.

Rob said...

A little belated, but...

CLE @ MFY Lineups:

CLEVELAND:
1. Grady Sizemore, CF
2. Asdrubal Cabrera, 2B
3. Travis Hafner, DH
4. Victor Martinez, C
5. Ryan Garko, 1B
6. Jhonny Peralta, SS
7. Kenny Lofton, LF
8. Trot Nixon, RF

4. Alex Rodriguez, 3B

Sunday Night

BRS: 000 000 002 - 2 5 0
MFY: 000 000 000 - 0 4 0

Pedro: 9-4-0-1-9
Billy: 9-5-2-0-13

HR: Nixon (2 run shot with 2 outs in 9th)

Amy said...

Lowell: Any team would rather not have five days off. But we'll take it. If you have a letdown because you have too many days off, you have a problem. Yankees are more familiar to us, but Wang Pettite Clemens are good pitchers. Cleveland has Sabathia and Carmona. Either team will be a challenge. I prefer they go five games. (He also said not to refer to the teams by their nicknames when reporter referred to them as the Tribe and the Bronx Bombers.)

Gotta love Lowell.

allan said...

Allowing a run an inning ain't being an ace, ya fat tub of goo.

allan said...

be away for a minute or four.

Rob said...

Slappy finally gets a hit.

Ofer said...

Slappy with the single. What will the NY Post do if he goes 5-5 with 3 HRs but the Yanks lose 10-3?

Rob said...

Slappy hits mean NOTHING when Dumbo follows with a DOUBLE PLAY!

Amy said...

Going to eat. Back later.

s1c said...

What I want from this Cleve / MFY game.

1) A Cleveland win!!!
2) FB get hammered!!!
3) A-rod gets three or four meaningless hits!!
4) Jeter gets no hits!!!

Benjamin said...

I tell ya, there's no way to predict baseball. You just can't predict it. Who could have guessed that after A-Rod hit his first post-season single of all time, Posada would ground into a double play.

Rob said...

Ortiz in the ALDS: 6 for 8, 5 walks. 2 dongs.

Rob said...

Phil Hughes warming up for the Yankees.

It'll be interesting how.....

well then! Fat Billy is INJURED.

Here comes Joe and the trainer.

It looks like he's going to stay in the game, though.

Sarah Haendler said...

Ah look, there we go - an excuse for when he gets killed, or runs away to let the bullpen get killed for him.

Rob said...

Gritty outing for Clemens. Hughes warming. I wonder how long, assuming Clemens stays healthy, Joe Torre will stay with Clemens.

Lead-off walk to Pronk.

s1c said...

Hughes warming up in the pen for the MFY's!!!

28 million just doesn't buy what it used to does it Joe!!!

Rob said...

Joe Torre and the trainer are back out to talk to Clemens.

Ron said...

Hughes apparently warming in the pen. Any chance Torre gets fired before the 7th inning stretch?

s1c said...

0 outs in the third and Passedballa is buying time!!

Joe, this is your ace!! The man who was brought back to bring you to the promised land!

s1c said...

Clemens out in the third inning. way to go FB!!!!!!!

Ron said...

Benjamin said...

And Clemens comes out after 2.1 innings with an "injury". Hughes in.

Rob said...

ROGER CLEMENS LEAVES THE GAME. It started with boos, mostly cheers.

TBS is already spinning this in Roger's favor. "How fitting it is that Roger Clemens' last pitch, possibly in the Major Leagues, is a strikeout."

So we'll see what kind of a shalacking the Indians can serve on Phil Hughes.

At this point, you almost want to see the Yankees win THIS game and lose tomorrow, so you can't blame their suckiness on injuries.

Rob said...

Almost. But ya know what? SWEEP 'em!

Ofer said...

Ah, this sucks... best case scenario is Fat Billy giving up 3 in 3 innings. I was hoping for worse.

Well, maybe Cleveland can tee off of the Franchise and damage his fragile soul for years to come.
