Game Times

ALCS:

Thu 1004 - OFF
Fri 1005 - Angels at Red Sox, 8:30
Sat 1006 - OFF
Sun 1007 - Red Sox at Angels, 3:00

Tue 1009 - OFF
Wed 1010 - Angels at Red Sox, 8:30

MLB now says it will release the times by the "end of the business day".

What's the problem? It's not that hard to figure out. Are they scared to bump the MFY from prime time? Fans making plans to fly to other cities -- as well as the managers and players of the teams involved -- would like to know.

Once again, if it can be fucked up, MLB will fuck it up.

Also: Some people suggested game threading the WC Playoff. If so, ThreadSox would be the spot to do it. I may be away from the computer tonight.

WEEI says it is TBS that is screwing it up. Something about the regular scheduled programing.

WHO THE FUCK KNOWS WHAT IS GOING ON? I sure don't

The question then becomes, end of business in what time zone. Dopes.

Their available on Extra Bases...Here

A crock if you ask me.

tim said...

I retract the "crock" comment, which was made largely in part because it doesn't agree with TBS' own schedule on their website. 6:37 is prime time for that night since theres a late one in Arizona...

8:37, can't complain. 3:07 I'm a little ticked about, just cause it's Thanksgiving dinner at my place Sunday. Looks like I'll have to move a TV into the kitchen.

They're here now: Playoff Schedule

Rob said...

This is weird, seeing Don Orsillo on TBS.

allan said...

The Sunday 3:07 is pissing me off a lot. Figured it would be at night and rather than work 12-12, I would switch shifts with someone and work 8-8 and get home right at first pitch. But no.

Looks like it's radio only for Game 3.

Switching shifts should work for the DS and WS, though.

I am watching NESN's rerun of the rally today in Boston. The funniest thing is seeing John Henry rocking on guitar to Dirty Water and Sweet Caroline while wearing his well-pressed blue oxford cloth shirt. Who know he was a rocker??

Amy said...

Oh, and I am annoyed by the 6:37 start time on Wednesday since I won't get home til after 8 that night from work.

Rob said...

This has been some ballgame. 6-6 after 7.5 innings.

San Diego: 6, 12, 0
Colorado: 6, 10, 0

Rob said...

Extra Innings!

laura k said...

I'll have to miss Sunday's game entirely. Bah. But that should be my only miss.

We've got October all mapped out - sick days, vacation days, switching shifts, not leaving the house. Now all we need is the Sox to come through.

How are we gonna make it til Weds??

How are we gonna make it til Weds??

This SD @ COL game right now. Oh man. This has been one of the most exciting games I've seen this season. Tomorrow I don't know WHAT I'll do!

The way this game is going though, it'll still be going tomorrow.

Rob said...

I love baseball.

allan said...

I was half watching here and there, but have been watching since the 10th.

What's the longest playoff game - 16 innings?

(Don's voice sound normal now.)

nixon33 said...

this is amazing. i called it by the way, w/ orsillo doing the game!

Rob said...

The longest one-game playoff? I'm not sure. But the longest postseason game was Game 4 of the NLDS, Atlanta vs. Houston - 18 innings. I remember Fat Billy came in and pitched the final 3 innings, giving up just one hit and striking out 4 for the win.

allan said...

Julio's got the Lowe Face going.

2 Run HR!!!!!!!!!! for padres

Rob said...

Wow.

2-run dong by Scott Hairston.
8-6.

ODawg said...

In the 2005 NLDS, Houston beat Atlanta in 18 innings, to clinch the series in six.

Rob said...

Oh man. I wanted the Rockies to win! Haha. But this thing ain't over yet.

allan said...

18 - right.

i was thinking of the mets/astros in 1986.

Rob said...

2005, my bad. But it was Game 4.

Box Score

allan said...

jorge julio -- always a bad decision.

Rob said...

jorge julio -- always a bad decision.

I remember him blowing a game for the O's against the MFY a few years back.

ODawg said...

Sorry, you're right, Game 4. (Obviously, no Game 6 in a DS.) No previous one-game playoff has gone to extra innings.

Rob said...

I think whatever the outcome here, the advantage on Wednesday will go to the Phillies.

Rob said...

I kept thinking it happened in the NLCS against the Cardinals. But how about the Astros, to play 18 innings, then go into St. Louis and grind it out for 7 games and advance to the World Series.

Of course, they were of little match to the White Sox in the end.

GAP SHOT FOR MATSUI! Tying run at the plate for perhaps the NL Rookie of the Year, Troy Tulowitski!

tim said...

(Don's voice sound normal now.)

Yes it do...

Tying run @ the plate....lets go Rockies!

Rob said...

ANOTHER GAP SHOT!!

allan said...

holy shit -- great chance to at least tie it.

Rob said...

And guess who is up.

Matt Holliday.

Rob said...

OH MY GOD!!!! MATT HOLLIDAY WITH A GAME-TYING TRIPLE!

allan said...

wow.

fucking wow.

tim said...

WOW!!!!!!

Rob said...

And now they can win it with an out!

tim said...

ROCKIES!!!!!

allan said...

that's just hoffman being rivera.

:>)

Rob said...

They'll fill the bases here.

Rob said...

that's just hoffman being rivera.

And you think about it... Hoffman blows a couple of saves at the end of the season, and Rivera blew one in Baltimore.

tim said...

Hoffman is fuckin' up!

allan said...

they must be going apeshit in the stands -- after being like a tomb in the top half.

Rob said...

So what do you think... Squeeze?

allan said...

color guy talkin' bunt.

Rob said...

ROCKIES WIN!!!!!

tim said...

Announcers talking about a squeeze....could it be?

SAC FLY ROCKIES WIN!

allan said...

holliday banged up , bleeding?

tim said...

Holliday down though...

Rob said...

Matt Holliday got CLOCKED somehow during the play. He's bleeding from the mouth, it looks like.

4 hours, 40 minutes. 13 innings.

Wow. I love baseball.

allan said...

bizarre scene - team going nutz -- trainer dealing with holliday,

Rob said...

Mouth full of dirt.

Did Holliday even touch the plate??

allan said...

face plant on the slide.

ouch

Rob said...

He never touched the plate!!!

tim said...

And he didn't even touch the fucking plate.

allan said...

never touched the plate

i thought the catcher would tag him but the ump says safe.

so he didnt bother.

Rob said...

I would have tagged him anyways.

allan said...

look at this guy -- the jacket, the hair ... jeez.

what decade is this? (what century is this?)

tim said...

look at this guy -- the jacket, the hair ... jeez.

lmao, was just about to comment on that. i saw him earlier in the game and was like "wow."

allan said...

yeah laura and i both saw him earlier.

nice powder blue slacks as well.

blown call wins the WC. shoulda been a DP.

Rob said...

But how about those Colorado Rockies, huh?

They win 14 of their final 15 games! Can you believe it? I thought the Phillies would have the advantage on Wednesday, but I don't know now.

nixon33 said...

he never touched the plate

Rob said...

I'm somewhat surprised nobody argued the call. Winning run or no winning run. It's hard to argue a call when the other team is on the field celebrating.

Rob said...

Barrett did tag him, by the way. He reached over and tagged him.

allan said...

is it wednesday evening yet?

Rob said...

I NEED A TIME MACHINE!

Rob said...

Thus endeth the 2007 Regular Season.

Rob said...

Matt Holliday will be fine. He came out and jumped Todd Helton from behind. Fans chant M-V-P.

I concur.

allan said...

Night, guys.

laura k said...

How are we gonna make it til Weds??

This SD @ COL game right now.

Heh. I don't watch any NL games til the CS, and even then I don't care if I miss one or two.

I don't (can't) stay up til 1:00 a.m. to watch an NL playoff game. Doesn't matter how exciting the game is. I be sleeping.

What a crazy game. And he never touched the plate! That is even crazier.

Rob said...

I feel terrible for the Padres fans and the Padres themselves, because you've got to feel cheated after that play. You know that if it happened to the Red Sox, we would be absolutely livid.

Joe Grav said...

Heads would be rolling.

laura k said...

You know that if it happened to the Red Sox, we would be absolutely livid.

And you know that if it happened in the Red Sox's favour, we'd be laughing at the fans of the other team and telling them to stop whining. (Maybe not you, Ish, but most fans.)

That's the way it goes.

Rob said...

You're right - not me. I'd feel bad for the other team a little bit, but mostly I'd feel lucky for the Red Sox. They catch a huge break. But you're right. That's the way it goes. That's sports. That's baseball.

Isn't it amazing what could have happened had the play been called correctly? There were men at the corners with 0 out. There would be a man at second, probably, with 2 out. The game would be tied, and you never know if they'd score again in that inning.

How many more innings would have been played? Who would have come out on top? No idea. They'd be back to square one. The Rockies could have hit another base hit and scored the next runner and that would be that. You never know. I'd just hate to be a Padres fan this morning.

Rob said...

The only thing I could think of that would make sense with that play is the fact that the catcher never had control of the ball. The ball glanced off his glove and rolled around him and away... he was blocking home plate without the ball. But all Tim McClellan did was signal safe. He never signaled interference or anything like that. It seems to me McClellan thought he touched the plate, when he didn't.

But oh well.

Rob said...

I just read a couple of articles from the San Diego Union-Tribune about last night's game. The call at home plate is surprisingly not much of a story in Padre-Country. It's quite remarkable, really. There was one paragraph about the play, Michael Barrett saying, "I don't think he got the plate." But that was it. There was one article from PETCO Park where fans had gathered in center field to watch the game on a big screen. They talked about how sad and depressing and disappointing and surprising and terrible the loss was, but there was no mention of the play at the plate.

I think that's just as well.

SD Reliever Heath Bell (2.2 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 2 BB, 5 K) sat in the clubhouse, eating a bowl of ice cream. "Ice cream makes you feel better," he said, then added about the game, "We thought we had it and we didn't."

Mmmmm ice cream.

allan said...

Reliever Heath Bell: "Ice cream makes you feel better."

It is apparently true.

JoS, April 5, 2007:
And after talking about his "debauchery at third base", Mike Lowell took solace in an ice cream sandwich. "This is the best way to wash it out."
