I feel like we could beat any of them easily if we get that far, so it's hard to get that excited.

LETS GO CUBS!

Rob said...

Mmmmm game thread!

Rob said...

Anybody have predictions?

Who wins tonight? Who wins tomorrow?

Do any of these series go to five games?

allan said...

No predictions, but I'm pullin' for the Cubs.

Very curious to see if I get MLBTV at work tonight.

I watched the first two innings at home on the laptop last night waiting for Pronk to win the game. I thought the live broadcasts were blacked out -- plus I did not pay for the post-season package (unless it was included in what I bought back in March, but why would MLB do that?).

I really want to see tomorrow's game.

I hope you get it also RS. From the Red Sox press pass for ALDS game 3 -
IN ALDS PLAY, a team has taken a 2-0 lead 15 times, including both Boston and
Cleveland in 2007…On only 4 occasions entering this season, has the team with a 2-
0 lead dropped the next 3 games and the Series: Yankees to Seattle in 1995;
Cleveland to Boston in 1999; Oakland to the Yankees in 2001; and Oakland to
Boston in 2003…The team with a 2-0 lead has won the series in 3 games 7 times.

I like that trend!

Oh, yeah one more thing I'm pulling for the Cubs and the Rockies!!!

Rob said...

Rich Hill is from Boston.

Rob said...

Lead-off home run from Chris Young! Wow.

allan said...

MLBTV is alive and kicking!!!!

Woo-hoo!

Rob said...

Not a good start for the Cubbies.

home run and a double.

allan said...

Dong - on the very first pitch, no less.

allan said...

Two-bagger for the brother of on fire.

Rob said...

The brother of On Fire is on fire himself. He absolutely LAUNCHED one deep into right center in Phoenix - had to have gone 430 feet.

Rob said...

RBI single for Justin Upton. This kid is 20 years old, so they had to somehow keep the champagne away from this kid the night the 'Backs clinched the West.

From today's press conference with Joe Torre -
Q. What did you see from Alex at the plate?
JOE TORRE: Well, put Alex in the group with everybody else. I don't think it's fair to single him out. We got three hits. We scored, what, four runs in two games and three of them were home runs. So we certainly need to do a better job of doing what we've been doing most of the year.
But Alex, again, he gets up there in situations. Sometimes they're not going to pitch to him, sometimes they have to pitch to him, and they're making pretty good pitches on him. He's fouling off his pitch and stuff like that. I think everybody is trying a little bit too hard. So hopefully, we'll come back here tomorrow and have a little fun with it.

The MFY's score 4 runs in Cleveland and 3 were home runs, but its all about A-rod.

It really shows the absolute inability (and laziness) of these writers to come up with some angle that they haven't already decided six months ago to write about.

allan said...

ARZ: 200 10
CHI: 000 1

cubs have a man on second with 1 out in the 5th

allan said...

Livan has walked the bases loaded. Still only 1 out.

allan said...

Mark DeRosa was ahead in the count 3-1 and swung at ball 4 (which would have forced in a run) and grounded into a 643 DP to end the inning.

Still 3-1 Snakes after 5.

Rob said...

Byrning Dong makes it 4-1. Feels like 14-1.

Rob said...

4 double plays tonight for the Cubs. Going down in flames.

Ofer said...

RS, could it be that since Toronto isn't in the playoffs, you're considered an international subscriber? Maybe they don't have blackout restrictions for Canada in the playoffs...

Rob said...

Cubs are down to their final three outs.

Rob said...

Last licks for the 2007 cubs.

allan said...

Cubs - Will mark the 100th anniversary of their last World Series win next season.

allan said...

Maybe they don't have blackout restrictions for Canada in the playoffs...

I thought the fine print I read named Canada as well as the US, etc. as being blacked out during live games. Plus MLB did not include "watch games live" as a bonus for signing up. It says you can watch archived games.

But I'm watching the Cubs now ....

allan said...

No 1918 rematch this month.

Rob said...

That's it.

D-Backs to the NLCS.
Cubs go home.

Rob said...

I'd almost like the Phillies to win tonight just so there'd be more baseball tomorrow, haha. If everyone sweeps, it'll be a long layoff. LCS starts when... Thursday?

Gambrinus said...

Too bad about the Cubs.

Oh well, let's go Rockies!

Sarah Haendler said...

Poor Cubbies. Sigh.

I think the last time I bought MLB-TV and cared about the playoffs (2005) if you had bought the package at the beginning of the season it continued through the playoffs. Of course, that's two years and several changes to the price structure ago, but there is a precedent.

allan said...

NLCS begins Thursday the 11th.
ALCS begins Friday the 12th.

allan said...

Damn, if the Sox win tomorrow afternoon, it will be a loooooooooooong week.

Five complete days. From Sunday evening to Friday evening!

Win anyway, Sox!!

I'm with you, Ish. I'm going to get twitchy if everyone sweeps and there's no baseball. However, the only non-sweep I can get behind though is a challenge from the Phillies, so I'll be rooting for them tonight, just in support of more baseball. Otherwise, I don't care so much. The only NL team I was really into was the Cubs. The rest of them, well, it just doesn't matter to me which one we beat later on!

Rob said...

Five complete days. From Sunday evening to Friday evening!

Some say it'll be a way of getting used to the offseason, etc.

Well, not so much. The final out of the World Series gives you that sense of finality that the end of the LDS can't give. You know there's no more baseball. It's closure, almost. Sucks, but it is what it is.

These days are the worst, just waiting around. It helps to have lots of things to do.

Sarah Haendler said...

You just don't know the right Mormons, obviously.

LOL

Go Rockies!!!

Rob said...

The lights have gone out at Coors Field!!!

Rob said...

This looks REALLY cool. All the scoreboards are on and other little lights.

Now the lights are coming back on.

Rob said...

40-50 MPH winds in Denver. Part of the lights have come on.

Rob said...

And they're back going.

Benjamin said...

Supposedly it was a computer malfunction, but I couldn't catch the details.

Ofer said...

Have there ever been four sweeps in a DS? Since they haven't been doing it for too long, I guess there haven't. Anyway, now that the Cubs are down, I'm rooting for the superfecta.

Rob said...

I'm getting sick of these Sonic commercials! The food always looks really good, and their advertising is working on me, but the nearest Sonic is 40 miles west of Philadelphia. That's about 450 miles from here. :(

Rob said...

Superfecta would be cool... no baseball for Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday would not be cool.

allan said...

Never been more than two 3-0 DS sweeps in a season. BR

Imagine if the Rockies make it to the series..it would be cold, real cold

Just wondering: is anyone rooting for the MFY, so we can beat them in the ALCS? Or is it pro-sweep across the board?

I know it's hard to root for CI, TCM, HGH and all the rest, but not impossible given the right circumstances...

allan said...

Just wondering: is anyone rooting for the MFY, so we can beat them in the ALCS? Or is it pro-sweep across the board?

Speaking only for myself, the best thing would have been for them to completely miss the playoffs.

The next best thing is for them to get swept.

Rob said...

I want tomorrow to be the final game at Yankee Stadium in 2007. BOS/MFY ALCS would be very bad.

The people who think the Red Sox and Yankees NEED to play each other in the ALCS are telling each other that the Yankees are the best team in baseball, as always, and the Red Sox need to go through the Yankees to show everyone they are the best.

It was true in 2003, it was true in 2004. This year it is much, much different. The best team in baseball this year has been the Boston Red Sox, and they don't need validation by playing and beating the Yankees in the LCS. Their record is their validation.

Rob said...

This year, the Red Sox/Yankees rivalry will shift to another division. It'll be the NL West, because I think the Rockies will beat the Phillies tonight.

D-Backs vs. Rockies in the NLCS.

How amazing will that be!? Red Sox/Indians will be crazy enough.

Red Sox/Yankees is good television, but D-Backs/Rockies and Red Sox/Indians... that's good BASEBALL.

Ofer said...

I agree completely. It might not have sounded like that from my question, I guess. I fully suscribe to the 0-162, 0-162, 1-161 idea from the thread a few days ago.

Just wondering: is anyone rooting for the MFY,

never have never will.....I talked to lot of cocky Yankee fans before this series started so to see us sweep in the afternoon and them get swept in the night game will make for a anticpated Monday .

To see them lose these games in the fashion that they have is more suprising then anything...But with the Indians marching out Westbrook and Byrd, it can turn around quick.

Rob said...

It's getting crazy at Coors.

allan said...

Heading home. Game'll probably be over by the time I pull in.

Rob said...

We're down to 6 teams.

PHI 1, COL 2, FINAL.

See ya next year, Philly.

Rob said...

The Rockies have won 17 out of their last 18 games. Can you believe that? Wow.

This is going to be one hell of an NLCS coming up. Colorado Rockies. Arizona Diamondbacks.

One of those two teams will go to the World Series. Boy. What a night. I didn't think it'd be this decisive.

Benjamin said...

There's a SOSH thread on the subject, but I'm definitely in the pro-sweep camp. (No one can seriously hope that the MFYs advance, but at least some hope that they'll bang up the Indians a bit more on their way out.)

Phils get swept. Let's finish this division series stuff tomorrow.

Ditto.

There's no "we have to go through the Yankees" this year. Been there, done that, got the ring.

Rob said...

I'm with ya on Westbrook. I haven't seen him recently to judge whether he can beat the Yankees or not today, but Paul Byrd is a soft-tossing control artist. Some teams will hit him well, most will not. He'll throw strikes and keep you off-balance. If Westbrook doesn't get them today, I say Byrd does tomorrow.

And hey, if Byrd can't beat the Yankees, there is this guy named Sabathia in store for Wednesday - back in Cleveland.
