WS 3: Red Sox 10, Rockies 5

Red Sox - 006 000 031 - 10 15 1
Rockies - 000 002 300 - 5 11 0

Red Sox lead series 3-0
For the first time in World Series history, two rookies had at least three hits each in a World Series game. Ellsbury went 4-for-5, with three doubles, two RBI and two runs scored, while Pedroia was 3-for-5, with one double and 2 RBI.

Lowell singled twice and drive in two runs, Lugo doubled and walked twice, and Matsuzaka knocked in two runs with a single in the six-run third.

Colorado closed the Red Sox's lead to 6-5 in the seventh when Holliday blasted a three-run home run to dead center of Hideki Okajima's first pitch. Jeemer then allowed a single, but got three straight outs to end the threat. Boston answered with three of their own in the top of the eighth -- with one out, Lugo walked, Coco Crisp singled, Ellsbury doubled in one run, and Pedroia doubled in two more.

Jon Lester takes the hill tomorrow night as Boston goes for its second straight World Series sweep. ... (Did I just type that?!!?)

Was that from the out, Papelbon's soul steal, or something else Pap might have done? Something we don't know about?

what like immaculate conception or something ;p

no. just. looked like a homer off the bat. s'all! ;)

Cora does his duty for the greater good.

it's a good thing our season is ending, because we are SO out of doctor jokes!

please comment here more often.

Okay, if you insist.

Amy said...

Good evening, all. Just got back to our hotel. Missed the 8th but heard it in the car. Looking good here. Tek is up. Guess I got here in time!

I will have to scroll through the thread and catch up.

Sad but true.

SLOWELL! nice.

laura k said...

Hey Amy! You know what it is tonight?

Amy said...

RBI for Tek! Double digits!

tim said...

SLOWELL FUCK YEAH!

laura k said...

double digits!

allan said...

The addaruntome was a success!!!

Colin said...

And Varitek does his duty as well. Now we're out of "Slam Range" as those Fux Sports morons would call it.

thatdietcokegirl said...

thx rockies. it's been fun ;p

Amy said...

No, what is it tonight, Laura?

s1c said...

So, do you think McMoron will give Yerry in credit for, I don't know, doing double switches and stuff.

After all it's so hard to be a fragging AL manager in a NL ball park!!

Insurance on top of the INSURANCE!!!

laura k said...

It's INEVITABLE!

SoSock said...

What a shame Tito doesn't know anything about double switches, defensive changes, moving the pitcher around, etc. If so he might have put Cora in where the pitcher was batting and have him play 2nd so the pitcher doesn't have to....... oh wait.........he did.
But I thought the FOX guys said....never mind

Amy said...

OF COURSE! How could it be otherwise??

laura k said...

BOT!

tim said...

tim, what is she reading?

Tonight, she grabbed the Rosie book, along with an "LSAT for Dummies" - planning on doing the LSAT next summer...Reads A LOT of books, A LOT...something you rarely see anymore in kids (i.e. me)

allan said...

this shirt/pajama bottoms combo is working so well (soon to be 6-0) i may have to wear them for every game next year -- even to skydome.

Amy said...

Damn cold out there in Denver. I loved Youk's winter gear!

30 outs away from the CHAMPIONSHIP!

tim said...

With good timing, this game should end just in time for the woot (12 am central).

Amy said...

Hey, Laura, you must have been quite beside yourself tonight. TWO DOUBLES IN ONE INNING! And four hits overall, including another double. Your boy is something.

allan said...

29 outs to go

tim said...

I'm down. Hope to attend more games next season in Toronto as well. I'm reppin the shirt/PJ pants as well.

laura k said...

I read a ton, but I am not a kid. :)

this shirt/pajama bottoms combo is working so well (soon to be 6-0) i may have to wear them for every game next year -- even to skydome.

hmmm... and who will you be going to these games with, oh pajama wearer?

nixon33 said...

one fucking more

redsock -
re: shirt/pajamas

Like Terry's magical post-season managerial decisions, do you really want to burn up the good luck during the regular season, or save it for when it counts?!

tim said...

i want one of those gray hoodies. as well as the blue away jackets they wear. as well as a belicheck gray patriots sweater, so i can cut the sleeves off, heh heh heh...

28 outs to go!

laura k said...

Amy, he's amazing! We were just wondering if a rookie could be WS MVP.

Colin said...

Fuck and Buck already giving thanks to the directors and others. That's a good sign.

Amy said...

So, Allan, will you wash this outfit in between games? Or will that ruin the effect?

tim said...

hmmm... and who will you be going to these games with, oh pajama wearer?

I've already established that I'll be "down" - haha...

Time to Hawpe on Pop...pap? and finish this

Erin said...

That WAS NOT a ball.

SoSock said...

RE Yook's dress
How about someone who looks like the kid in Christmas Story while he's in the dugout, but loses it all and goes out on the field bare-armed?

Amy said...

Dice K looked great tonight, at least til the last two batters.

Glad we got those four extra runs....

nixon33 said...

turd beret is a shitty umpire.

Colin said...

How cute...a charity triple. Might as well not be dicks in the bottom of the 9th I guess.

laura k said...

uh oh

ha ha just kidding

Erin said...

This game should have been over on a strikeout, but the ump just wants to keep playing, I guess.

tim said...

Well yeah - adults read more than "kids"/"teens" etc....but still, i think there's been an overall drop through all age groups in literacy/reading over the past while, especially with the internet/HDTV/etc.

Re: triple : That's fine. Let him Hawpe on Pop all he wants. Give him the false sense of security that a triple will do them good when they're going to be down 3-0 in the world series against the best fragging team evar!!!!111!1!11ONEONEONE!!11!

Benjamin said...

Whee.

SoSock said...

Actually a stupid move - going to 3rd. He made it but... they need a lot more than just 1. Protocol says you hold at 2nd.

Erin said...

Papelbon gets four outs on fifteen pitches. Not bad at all.

nixon33 said...

WE WIN.
tomorrow it is finished!

Amy said...

I couldn't believe Youk put it all back on in the dugout.

WE WIN THREE IN A ROW! (Really six in a row.)

Colin said...

So much for that triple eh Rockies? Congrats to the rookies, the stars of the game. Let's go for one more.

nixon33 said...

INEVITABLE!

Benjamin said...

Paps pads his stats with a 5-run save.

tim said...

time to put a lil spin on it...

27 outs left in the red sox season!

Erin said...

Awesome. It's been fun guys. I'll probably see you tomorrow.

laura k said...

ONE MORE GAME BABY!!!

We are one game away!!!

God I love this team, love them love them love them.

Thanks guys, this was a great night. I have to get up for work in like a minute and a half.

Love you all, g'night!

27 more outs and we can break out the pagne!!!!!

Assuming no extra innings!!!

are they going thru the whole lineup in order?

:>)

s1c said...

Oh yeah, before I forget. First time this year the Sox won 6 games in a row!!!

NESN time!!!

tim said...

IN-EVITABLE!!!!!

Colin said...

And we make WS history again. Damn where is the roof on this thing sometimes?!?

Gambrinus said...

Awesome victory. I think I'm going to have to try and find a way to get a ticket to tomorrow's game.

tim said...

It couldn't have been ONE MORE MINUTE LONG?!?!?!?!

[/po-thead remark]

Colin said...

pedroia is taller than someone!

HAHAHAHAHA!

Amy said...

Good night, Laura. Sweet LBJ dreams!

I am starting to get sad...we win tomorrow, no baseball for months, and no game threads. Of course, I want them to win and tomorrow is fine with me. But what happens to our community in the off season?

allan said...

Hammer Time

tim said...

pagne!!!!!

I definately read that "pagné" (i.e. the way you would pronounce gagné but with a P) lol...lets never use that word again

Benjamin said...

Now it's up to undefeated Lester to finish it out tomorrow.

allan said...

Following the Sox is a 12 month a year job. There will be plenty here. And maybe some off topic silliness.

But first -- Game 4.

SoSock said...

Looking more and more loike I was wrong about 5 - we very well could sweep.
It's nice to know that even if we do trip up tomorrow, Beckett will close it out Monday. It would be kinda cool though, 8 W-S games in a row, 7 P-S games in a row.
Just sounds .... Dominant maybe?

hehe - drink!

allan said...

L asked me about washing stuff on Friday (day off). I said no to the shirt/PJs. Can't wash the mojo out -- and how dirty can they get sitting in a chair and walking to the fridge for wine 4 hours a night?

Rob said...

It is sad, but this is the way you want your season to end. It makes the end of the season very sweet, but nevertheless, it's still sad.

The good thing about tomorrow is that there really isn't much pressure on Jon Lester, with this 3-0 lead. If the Red Sox lose, then you've got Beckett going in Game 5.

The Red Sox are sitting pretty.

allan said...

We MUST see a game with Popeye (aka Tim) next year!

Plus the annual wmtc party at our house in June.

allan said...

GOTTA CHANGE THE MAGIC NUMBER.

IT IS

1

Amy said...

All right, I will look forward to hot stove season and all that, but I will still miss the games. But good to know the store doesn't just close up shop til spring training.

I did a quick scroll through and just had to add my two cents. I am on the side of those who say no to ARod. I just don't like the guy, will never get over his slapping or his shouting, and can't stand his superstar status. I know he is a great player, but I just would rather play against him. Maybe not rational, but it's how I feel.

OK, more tomorrow! Good night, everyone.

nixon33 said...

remy keeps saying that dicek got the game winning hit, but he only got the rbi that made it 5 to 0. the rockies scored 5, so how is that the game winning hit?
they all keep saying it????

s1c said...

Ok, just saw the MBM play at the plate on NESN. He was out, catcher had the ball in his hand and his hand was in the glove when he made the tag.

Close play, but he was out.

Ofer said...

Woohoo!
Well, it was scary for a while there, but we were on cruise control almost all the way. Laura, you've raised a fine, fine boy.

Tomorrow we clinch!

(I really hope so. Amongst the obvious reasons lies the fact that I will not be able to watch games after tomorrow- work beckons).

Colin said...

Well a great, though nerve-wracking for a small while, game. Props to the rookies again and I'm getting tired so good night all.

Jere said...

3-0 us. Woo effing hoo.

Bronson's on Sports Tonight again right now. When the other dude stupidly asked if, after Game 3 of the '04 WS, they cracked the Champagne a little bit, and then the third guy said, "Jack Daniels actually," Bronson said, "it was Crown Royal by the World Series."

I think you all were trying to figure that out or something. Sorry if you already knew this.

Zenslinger said...

Was fun indeed.

We need A-Rod? Hah.

allan said...

Our shots were getting larger during the end of the ALCS, and so we had to scale down. We have enough for tomorrow, but if it goes 5 or 6 (yeah right), we may have to pick up 1 or 2 of those airplane bottles.

Picked up the bubbly today, since stores are closed on Sunday.

Ofer said...

You know, with all the talk about the difference in rules, I think that it causes some fun things. I mean, Daisuke getting that 2-RBI single was way more fun than if it had been Lugo. And seeing Papi field a couple of hard grounders made me smile.

I still think that the most amusing part of the '04 WS was the Pedro AB in game 3. He looked so lost, it was hilarious (although I think he did get on base...).

I don't know if it's a good enough reason to keep the rules as they are, but it is entertaining.

allan said...

Night.

Jere said...

Ofer: I agree on the entertainment angle. Every time I see a Sox pitcher on the bases with a jacket on, it brings back memories of Bruce Hurst and others batting and stuff in 1986. And those are good memories, as, up to a certain point, it was just so cool to be seeing the Red Sox in the World Series as an 11-year old.

But that's just the thing: I don't want entertainment when the games are this important, I just want to win. I'm sure it would be entertaining tonight if Dice had slipped on a banana peel and got thrown out at first from left field. But if that happened, you can bet we'd all be complaining about it, not saying, Hey, it is entertaining so it's okay.

I say save that stuff for exhibition games. Just my opinion. I know what you mean, though.

laura k said...

We MUST see a game with Popeye (aka Tim) next year!

fuck yeah :)

laura k said...

Laura, you've raised a fine, fine boy.

Now come on. I may be twice his age, but I'm not dreaming of being his mother. :)
