Pitchers and catchers report to Fort Myers for spring training on February 14. Happy Valentine's Day!!
Position players are due on February 20, with the first full-squad workout on the 22nd.
Theo, on who the Sox might part with for Johan Santana: "There are no untouchables. If there's an opportunity to get better, we'll do it."
On dealing Manny Ramirez: "There's nothing happening with him at all, because he's happy in Boston."
"There are no untouchables. If there's an opportunity to get better, we'll do it."
ReplyDeleteWonder if Theo actually thinks that...I'd prefer to think he doesn't.
The heck with trading Manny! Give him an extension!
ReplyDeletehaving santana would be ridiculous. Those kinds of stacked lineups scare me since the yankees try to stack the lineup every year and lately they have failed miserably. The Sox got here because of outstanding rookies and the already solid core of the lineup. Giving up the essence of the Sox now would be in my opinion comparable to the talent lost after the last big win. I don't want 2 years of not winning the series in order to secure good pitching now.

ReplyDeleteThey do have $20 options for 2009 and 2010. I'm sure it will be a hot topic of debate all season whether they will pick up the first option.

as in effing ridiculously great??

I think the Sox could keep that intact and get Johan. Coco, Lester and a couple three guys not named Jacoby or Clay would be a start. If Santana was two years younger (he'll turn 29 during spring training), I'd throw Lyndon into the deal and go with Ococ.

Isn't it great that we can say stuff like this now!!!!!
I'd prefer to think he doesn't.
ReplyDeleteYou are probably right.
the tone of the rest of my post led you to believe that i think its a bad ridiculous. I meant like we would have the best hitting tandem and pitching tandem on one team. has to be first time that ever happened.
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't lose lyndon. how dare you suggest it. lester can go. clay? jesus what are you doing to me here. these guys are legends in the making. can we just pay the twins for him to make up for the remainder of baseball talent we keep?
The Red Sox are in the trade talks for Santana now. Sounds like Coco/Lester won't be good enough for the Twinkies. If the Twins don't want Coco/Lester, then I'd think about turning my attention to Dan Haren.
ReplyDeleteAnother date to mark on your calendar: December 8th, a bunch of tix go on sale. You're all paying attention, right? I don't wanna hear any "you can't get tickets" talk next July. This means you, Amy:)
ReplyDelete"then I'd think about turning my attention to Dan Haren."
ReplyDeleteIs there anyway we could offer to give them CHB as well? You never know, they might be stupid enough to take him... -Jan
Thanks for the heads up, Jere. I will check it out, and if I don't get any tickets, I promise not to complain.

There always is StubHub who have single handedly ruined every live event you ever would want tickets for....
as long as they don't trade ellsbury, its all good.
ReplyDeleteI like this team. I like its products. What's the point of stacking your line-up and playing with a team full of mercenaries?
ReplyDeleteSure, improve if you can, but I wouldn't sell the silver for this pitcher even if it makes trading sense.
That makes me a romantic in sports terms, so be it.....
Not surprisingly, I agree with you, Lord. I remain a romantic despite all the statistics, economic analysis, etc., that goes into making these deals.
