Mariners - 201 210 200 - 8 11 0Colon did not help himself by making two throwing errors towards second base in the first three innings -- or by allowing eight hits and six runs.
Red Sox - 000 000 000 - 0 7 3
Hernandez (6-6-0-3-5, 106) did not dominate the Sox, but they could not get anything done with men on base. They left the bases loaded in the second and two on in the third. Boston managed only two hits after the fourth inning (both by DH Sean Casey, who went 3-for-4).
J.D. Drew continued his hot hitting, singling twice and walking once.

Felix Hernandez (3.29, 121 ERA+) / Bartolo Colon (3.50, 124 ERA+)
All is well, I think.

At the moment, I have no internet connection. If it's not back up by tonight, please chat at ThreadSox. I'll update this when things are back to normal.
Was planning on compiling some Coco stuff, but am a bit under the weather. Sorry.
ReplyDeleteUntil lineups, here's some Ococ video.
If anyone else wants to link to some good stuff, feel free!
ReplyDeleteVideo at SG.
ReplyDeleteMBM-less Oatmeal:
ReplyDelete1 Coco Crisp, CF
2. Dustin Pedroia, 2B
3. J.D. Drew, RF
4. Mike Lowell, 3B
5. Kevin Youkilis, 1B
6. Sean Casey, DH
7. Jason Varitek, C
8. Brandon Moss, LF
9. Julio Lugo, SS
Bartolo Colon -- SP
Moss up in LF I see.
Sorry you're not feeling well, Allan. Get some rest.
ReplyDeleteI'm still trying to find out what set Manny off on Youk. I gather it's that Manny was slow out of the dugout to help Coco. And one source says Manny actually slapped Youk in the face with the back of his hand!
If I had to guess the players on the Sox who would be least tolerant of Manny's avant garde approach to life and baseball, it would be Youkilis and Schilling, and maybe Varitek. But it would be pretty weird if all 25 guys loved each other.
Update on the Manny-Yook situation.
ReplyDeleteMovin' on.
Two hours before the game and the Globe has no info on the outfield.
ReplyDeleteWow. Suspensions were handed down, and not surprising, Coco was suspended for 7 games, but the surprises were... Lester suspended 5 games, and Sean Casey suspended 3 games.
ReplyDeleteDon't know about the Rays yet.
Edes: According to three sources, Manny had raised objections to Youkilis throwing equipment around in the dugout after flying deep to center in the fourth inning, and advised him to "cut that (expletive) out. Youkilis apparently didn't take kindly to the remark, said something, and Manny swiped at him.
ReplyDeleteManny: "Everything's good. A misunderstanding. Even the best families have them."
Casey at least was involved in the brawl, but the Lester suspension is bullshit. If he were trying to retaliate against Crawford, he wouldn't have thrown a breaking ball. Seeing Lester hit someone is only marginally more suspicious than seeing Wakefield do it.
ReplyDeleteCoco was suspended for 7 games, but the surprises were... Lester suspended 5 games, and Sean Casey suspended 3 games.
ReplyDeleteThat's pretty obscene, Lester and Casey. I guess Lester misses a start, what the hell did Casey do?
I'm clearly in the minority but I posted at the time that I thought Lester hit Crawford on purpose.
ReplyDeleteRays:
ReplyDeleteJames Shields: 6 games
Jonny Gomes: 5 games
Edwin Jackson: 5 games
Carl Crawford: 4 games
Akinori Iwamura: 3 games
At the time of the brawl I thought Carl Crawford should get the biggest suspension. I really didn't like what CC did.
ReplyDeleteand strangely I really didn't mind Johnny Gome's actions. I fully expected Gomes to be in the middle of whatever skirmish took place. You mess with Iwamura, you answer to Johnny Gomes. That is a given.
I'm still confused with Casey's suspension. Heard he'll start serving that one on June 14th.
ReplyDeleteWhen was the last game the Red Sox played without Manny and Ortiz in the lineup?
But hey, the Red Sox do come out ahead on the deal.
ReplyDeleteRed Sox players suspended a combined 15 games. Rays suspended a combined 23 games.
It sure would be nice if we could hang on to Ococ til LBJ comes back.
ReplyDeleteOne of the sources told ESPN Deportes about Youk being all O'Neill after every AB...
ReplyDelete"Other players have told Youkilis in the past about the situation, which makes him look selfish and that he is more worried about each at-bat than about the team. If Boston is winning easily, there's no reason to throw objects all over the dugout because of a bad at-bat.
"There was a meeting where the team let Youkilis know that many of his teammates were tired of his explosive reactions for each bad plate appearance. It became very bothersome … more so when the team is winning and it's in first place. There's not much room for individualistic attitudes."
argg - stutter step by lugo means he's late for the throw.
ReplyDeleteColon's vying for that pitcher's gold glove.
ReplyDeleteIsh, thanks for that. That's cool. I think it's a good idea for a team to make their preferences known that way.
ReplyDeleteYook's little tantrums really bother me. I feel like, grow up, the game doesn't revolve around you.
By the way, Lester has accepted his suspension and is starting it tonight. Obviously ocoC has appealed.
ReplyDeleteThat was a hilarious facial expression on Felix there.
ReplyDeletevery interesting quote re yook. i guess most of his teammates think he's a whiny asshole too.
ReplyDeleteDon said that expression says it all, but I can't figure out what it said.
ReplyDeletethose kinds of liners always remind of me of the pro's hit that leveled fruitbat and scored roberts
ReplyDelete"dude, my face is rubbery, eh?"
ReplyDeletenice slap from manny to yook!
ReplyDeleteBUNT SINGLE!!! That was brilliant. I don't care about at what time in the game it is and if you should bunt and if you shouldn't. Good bunt.
ReplyDeleteI did it again. I don't usually use this computer and when I do, I forget to check who I'm logged in as.
ReplyDeleteI am both jennifer and decidedly not jennifer.
LLugo
ReplyDeletevery prescient photo you've got there allan. wonder if that's what he looked like coming at Youk yesterday.
ReplyDeleteAnyone have any pitches/appearance data on Lugo for the past month compared to last year? He seems like he's taking more pitches and walking.
ReplyDelete5th straight game with a walk.
All Coco, all the time...based loaded.
ReplyDeleteIn B-Ref splits?
ReplyDeleteWaste.
ReplyDeletefuckin' "yankee joe" west.
ReplyDeleteThat's gotta end Youk's E-less streak.
ReplyDeleteNope. E5.
is the official scorer yook's girlfriend?
ReplyDeleteO'Neill has made an appearance at first base.
ReplyDeleteI'm all for youk keeping his streak, but that sure looked like his error.
ReplyDeleteSo, you think after the game he'd go the official scorer to appeal that call on Lowell as per Remy? Can you even do that after a game is over?
absolutely a "keep the streak alive" ruling. ... but keep talking about fielding %, remy,
ReplyDeleteJeez.
ReplyDeletefucking christ.
ReplyDelete3 errors?
ReplyDeleteLooks like he caught FY flatfooted. Had FY been there and fielded that, Ichiro would have been picked off.
ReplyDeleteAnd instead, he moved to third and then scores.
For sake of argument, could those two E1s be blamed on FY being a bit spacey tonight?
ReplyDeleteOn Fire being on fire.
ReplyDeletedrew set to carry the team.
ReplyDeleteFor sake of argument, could those two E1s be blamed on FY being a bit spacey tonight?
ReplyDeleteThat last one could be blamed on FY. Redsock mentioned Lugo's stutter step in the first inning, though.
I meant to post this earlier, but I was at last night's dust up, I mean ball game. Pix of the melee on my blog.
ReplyDeleteSox TB brawl
Dr. BB
ReplyDeleteThanks for the pix link. Jere also has pix, though when things started, his camera was in his bag.
ReplyDeleteIs anyone else having trouble with MLB audio?
ReplyDeletesure would be nice if a few of our players completed a tour of the bases.
ReplyDelete2 errors for Colon tonight, to clear that up.
ReplyDeleteWow, an actual out for Colon.
ReplyDeletemlb audio won't load for me.
ReplyDeleteCrap! This is an ugly game on an ugly day.
ReplyDeletesafe - he avoided the tag
ReplyDeleteMan--they look like the keystone cops tonight. Sigh.
ReplyDeleteWell, hopefully the Red Sox can warm up as the weather does. High temps for Boston for the next 7 days: 91, 90, 94, 95, 85, 87, 93
ReplyDeletelet's stand and talk awkwardly about rubber tires.
ReplyDeleteyes, lets. still better than this crap of a game.
ROFL Nick. I *hate* that commercial.
ReplyDeleteI didn't think anyone could "act" worse than Tito, until they made these ads with Dustin.
ReplyDelete8:01 PM
ReplyDeleteBulletins METRO NORTH TRAINS SERVICE SUSPENDED BOTH WAYS ON THE HARLEM LINE THROUGH VALHALLA DUE TO DISABLED VAN ON THE TRACKS NEAR VALHALLA
There goes my dinner date.
Hot and humid here too. I'm just hoping the rain and thunderstorms keep away tomorrow and tomorrow night. This party wouldn't be too much fun indoors.
ReplyDeleteThe combative attitude has spilled over into my house, with my dog and cats getting testy today.
ReplyDeleteDamn do I love me some Brandon Moss.
Yes!!!!!Nice swing, Moss.
ReplyDeleteWould it be ironic if we called Moss "Bronson"?
ReplyDeletenext tues and thurs games at 6PM
ReplyDeletei refer to all brandons as bronson and vice versa
ReplyDeletealways liked the name Valhalla on the train line. sorry 'bout the dinner date.
ReplyDeleteMaybe Coco should just start serving his suspension now.
ReplyDeletevalhalla, such a romantic name.
ReplyDeletedinner dates > metro north
We need a big inning to keep Colon's win streak alive.
ReplyDelete....
At least Colon's keeping his pitch count low so he's doing his own mopup duty.
ReplyDeleteIt's not a van, by the way; it's a tractor trailer truck. The towtruck may have arrived.
ReplyDeleteI know Papi's hurt , but is he in the dugout tonight.I know he wasn't there last night to keep up race realtions....
ReplyDeleteI think whether they are hurt or not Papi and Schilling need to be there....They are kinda like good guys to have there , right..
D'OH! GO TO YOUR ROOM, BART.
ReplyDeleteCan someone please take that glove away from Colon?
ReplyDeleteThis is just not Colon's day. Poor guy.
ReplyDeletetito hiding behind the bench, "can I look yet?"
ReplyDeleteI think whether they are hurt or not Papi and Schilling need to be there....
ReplyDeleteSchill too? Is he still the elder statesman, ya think?
They got the truck off the tracks, so dinner is merely postponed and not canceled.
ReplyDeleteI'd rather see Colon pitch three great games and one shitty game than four mediocre games, but I worry that this regression won't be temporary.
I know Papi's hurt , but is he in the dugout tonight.I know he wasn't there last night to keep up race realtions....
ReplyDeletePapi was at the Garden, watching the C's.
D'OH! GO TO YOUR ROOM, BART.
ReplyDeleteLOL
I know they are beating us, but the Mariners are a mess. Yikes.
ReplyDeleteDon't worry, just enjoy your dinner.

Well ya know , all that shit about helping the young pitchers, they are paying him after all...

Garbage.....
but I worry that this regression won't be temporary.
ReplyDeleteReally? I feel like Colon is doing good, just not with his glove. I like him, too much perhaps.
That guy on Sox Appeal looks like a complete douchewhistle.
ReplyDeleteI am so not liking the earring on the sox appeal guy.
ReplyDelete9C, yeah, that's what they pay him for, but does he really have that role? I wonder.
ReplyDeleteBut just b/c I find him such a blowhard doesn't mean anyone else does...............
(that's for you)
ok, I am so not liking the guy on that earring.
ReplyDeleteOOOOO, here's a glimmer of sun shine.
ReplyDelete1-0 Royals.
Worse than the earrings, tho, is Don & Jerry talking about the earrings. "Are they real?" They're real earrings!
ReplyDeleteI just think if they don't watch themselves this team can self-destruct.
ReplyDeleteI know , its sound ridicuolus.
But if cliques form and special treatment takes a front seat it could happen....
I also have had enough of the Dominican Love Dance , with Manny , Papi , and Lugo....
The Sox Appeal guy is challenging someone to a fight
ReplyDeleteOr not. Bubble blowing contest.
ReplyDeleteNot to mention 1-0 Rangers over TFR

Aardsma is another glimmer of sunshine.
ReplyDeleteHe was both, I think.
ReplyDelete9C, don't you think there must be cliques on all teams?
ReplyDeleteI also have had enough of the Dominican Love Dance , with Manny , Papi , and Lugo....
I don't get it.
in vermont terms, we were urban in essex junctrion!
ReplyDeletei'd say in the neither camp -- i think my father liked the corny jokes.
we were more apt to make fun of canadians!
but buck owens was a great country musician before hee haw.
Six in the Sixth! Six in the Sixth!
ReplyDeletebefore and after. buck owens was just great.
ReplyDeletewe didn't watch hee haw in my house - we weren't allowed!
oh god, charlie moore is back. charlie, how can we miss you if you don't go away?
ReplyDeletewe were more apt to make fun of canadians!
ReplyDeleteIronic.
ironic was the point, i think
ReplyDeleteremy laughing too hard to read the promo. crazy potheads.
ReplyDeleteironic was the point, i think
ReplyDeleteSorry. I was doing my best (insert any broadcaster here.. like Jon Miller) impression.

Ya know when one of them hits a HR the dance the 3 of them do...It just seems like everyone used to get hugs know they just do it all together...
miller, yes :)
ReplyDeleted&j are out of control
At least FKR and MFY are both losing, for now.
ReplyDeleteWow. Don's got a really good Drunken Man voice.
ReplyDelete9C, I never noticed that. I see lots of hugs all around.
ReplyDeleteBut you know, some guys are bound to be better friends than others. It's fun if they're all friends, but I don't think it correlates with winning. Or not as much as people seem to think.
I think it's time for someone to run onto the field.
ReplyDeleteI'm off to put emma to bed. soon we can all put this game to bed. unless of course I come by latter and find we win in 13 or something like that.
ReplyDeletedefinitely. that would be fun.
ReplyDeleteoh boy. piling it on.
ReplyDeleteheh. "definitely that would be fun" was meant for ish's running on the field. but it would be fun for nick's 13 innings too.
ReplyDeletegood night emma!
Well, if NY and TB lose, I'll call this a decent day.
ReplyDeletethat's a good attitude patrick. i mean, we gotta lose sometimes. or so i'm told.
ReplyDelete1-1 tampa
ReplyDeleteYou figure if every team in the AL east played .500 (or any other number) baseball for the rest of the season, we'd win the division.
ReplyDeleteThere must be some really pissed off people behind that Boston Celtics banner.
ReplyDeleteLoudest cheer at Fenway tonight. For the Celtics.
Come on. Eight run 8th. WHO'S WITH ME!!!
ReplyDeleteuh. me. 8!
ReplyDeletenot me. i'm half asleep.
ReplyDeleteEIGTH IN THE EIGTH! EIGHT IN THE EIGTH!
ReplyDeletewe're definitely winning the division.
ReplyDeletei won't break out "inevitable" yet, but it's coming.
why not 9?
ReplyDeletethen bot nails it down.
And I can't spell...
ReplyDeletewhy not 9?

Emma here,
ReplyDeletewe are reading the Mixed up Files of
Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler.
Does Emma think the Red Sox can do an eight run 8th?
ReplyDeleteexploding chest hair
ReplyDeleteEmma, that's one of my all-time favourite books. Good choice! What part are you up to?
ReplyDeletegonna do it the hard way. with 2 outs.
ReplyDeleteelsewhere, don says he's going to put rogaine on his chest so his chest hair can "explode" like in jerry's pic of neil diamond.
Too bad Youk's chest hair couldn't have exploded right then.
ReplyDeleteNINE-RUN NINTH --- STAY TUNED>
ReplyDeleteI'm confident.
ReplyDeletePhil, explanation, please?
ReplyDeleteLaura: here.
ReplyDeleteIt took emma about 15 minutes to write that, so I'll time this one:
ReplyDeleteChapter 3. It was one of my mom's favorite books, too. They already got off the school bus.
[I haven't read it at all. I started it while she was writing, but she needed to write the title, so I had to stop. Now we're gone. 9 in the ninth!]
Phil, I can't watch a McCain vid. I'll trust you that there's some other refernce I'm not getting.
ReplyDeleteBut no wonder I didn't get it! I hear exactly zero McCain "news".
in a home opener one year (96?), the sox scored 9 in the bottom of the 9th and beat seattle 9-7.
ReplyDeleteHERE WE GO! NINE IN THE NINTH! NINE IN THE NINTH. RAWR!
ReplyDeleteBEAT THE HYPHEN!
ReplyDeleteYou can't even watch a six second clip?
ReplyDeleteHe apparently meant to say "We should be able to deliver bottled water to dehydrated babies." in his speech last Tuesday but said "We should be able to deliver bottled hot water to dehydrated babies." instead.
mariners know they are doomed - closer putz is warming
ReplyDeleteI'm going to watch the rest of the game with my eyes closed.
ReplyDeletemariners know they are doomed - closer putz is warming
ReplyDeleteFEAR THE RED SOX.
Sean Casey gets the comeback started with a double!
Ahh yes, the lead off hit. I remember it so well.
ReplyDeleteYou can't even watch a six second clip?
ReplyDeleteNo. Sorry. No point ruining my streak for six seconds.
Well hey. At least he's not Bush. He even said so himself!
ReplyDeleteCOME ONNNNNNN MOSS!

ReplyDeleteYes! Good call.
Lead us right into the clubhouse for a drink of some newly purified... water.

It's the Umps-Against-The-Yankees conspiracy!!!!
ReplyDeleteSterling just said Soria is pretty "doggon" good. I thought that was only said in NASCAR.
ReplyDeletehe has said that for at least a decade.
ReplyDeletefooking damon is growing a stache too. is this a team-wide trend?
will johnny be Mr. 27 tonight?
fooking damon is growing a stache too. is this a team-wide trend?
ReplyDeleteThey're getting it out of their systems now, because they won't have a chance to grow playoff beards.
