G69: Red Sox 9, Orioles 2

Orioles - 000 002 000 - 2 7 0
Red Sox - 010 400 22x - 9 9 1
Lester (7-7-2-1-3, 101) was smooth (save for a sixth-inning stumble) and the Sox hit three home runs.

In the fourth, Baltimore walked Manny to load the bases for Mike Lowell -- who lofted a grand slam into the Monster Seats. Kevin Youkilis and J.D. Drew each hit two-run dongs to make it a laugher.

2.5 GA!

***

Jeremy Guthrie (3.40, 125 ERA+) / Jon Lester (3.50, 125 ERA+)

Another early start -- assuming this guy is wrong.

Red Sox vs Guthrie
&
Orioles vs Lester

Do you suppose Jamie Walker gets called Jimmy Walker much?

Honky Tonk Woman: A SONG I KNOW!

Thanks, Laura, for the vote of confidence on the coolness thing. I have never once considered myself cool!

I love June, so much daylight. I'd like this game to wrap up quickly so we can sit outside.

Phil = 201!

allan said...

uh oh, politics!

laura k said...

Well, I think once you're out of jr high, or at least high school, coolness is measured differently. I doubt any of us here were cool in jr high. But we are all super cool now.

I think so anyway.

Amy said...

Sun has set here. What time does it set there? Toronto must be pretty far west into the eastern time zone.

Oh, no, not time zones again. Where is Ofer?

Benjamin said...

Ofer's in South America. I think we've established that.

Rob said...

ON FIRE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

He did it again!!!!

Amy said...

Yes, coolness in junior high and high school is nauseating.

DREW ON FIRE!!!

allan said...

TORCH THAT FUCKER!!!!!!!!!!!!!

nick said...

freakin' rally killers.

yet another double play.

laura k said...

ON FIRE!

computer is slow, i am late on that :)

Amy said...

Funny, Phil. Argentina. But I meant where is he tonight?

Benjamin said...

Called it but didn't type it in time.

"Make me laugh with a homer, Drew."

allan said...

Buck: "When he squares up on it, it goes. During this streak, he has been on fire!"

EVEN BUCK MARTINEZ KNOWS IT

laura k said...

Amy, we are above western NY state - across Lake Ontario from Rochester, not quite as far west as Buffalo. So more west than you, but not as far west as Detroit.

Benjamin said...

He's in South America tonight. You must be a slow learner, amy. :)

Amy said...

Buck Martinez really said that? I think we should trademark the nickname before everyone starts using it.

nick said...

I can say with some certainty that I was not cool in jr high.

As a mid-level music geek, I say you're cool, Amy.

Benjamin said...

Two nights of Timlin. Sounds like a horror flic.

nick said...

As if I had any cool-granting authority. more of an observer of truth.

Amy said...

LOL, Phil.

Thanks, Laura. I always think Toronto is further west than Buffalo. But the sun still must set a bit later there. Here it set tonight at 8:15 according to the local paper.

Rob said...

So... JoS has now reached... US, Canada, Argentina, Israel, England, and Ireland. Am I missing any other countries? Anyone from Zimbabwe here?

Tom Werner just presented Wally with a mini WS trophy.

laura k said...

I think we've already established that Amy is not a music geek of any kind.

Ofer is in South America.

Buck Martinez said Drew is on fire.

And none of us were cool in junior high.

Amy said...

Wow, two votes for coolness. Wait til I tell my kids.

Harvey already thinks I am cool.

Benjamin said...

Could've sworn there was Japan or Australia at some point.

Rob said...

Hey. I was cool in Junior High!!!!

...well, kinda. Maybe.

Rob said...

And meanwhile we're one out away from some DIRRRRRRRRTY water!

laura k said...

Kids who are cool in jr high peak too early.

If only you could know that then.

Amy said...

Timlin getting two out in a row! The stars must really be aligned.

nick said...

"Timlin looking sharp tonight" like the knife he keeps sticking in our thigh.

laura k said...

I think we had someone from Japan, and maybe from Korea at one point.

allan said...

old yeller seems to be guaranteeing he'll get some decent-leverage innings with this outing.
sigh.

Amy said...

We win!

water is very dirty!

HYDROGEN AND OXYGEN... AND DIRT!

Rob said...

Lots and lots of dirt!

Benjamin said...

Water.

laura k said...

I'm outta here, want to grab some daylight while it's still here. See you all tomorrow!

Amy said...

Definitely true about those who peak in junior high. I do wish I could have convinced my daughters of that fact, but every generation has to learn it on their own. When Rebecca went to her 5th high school reunion, she felt vindicated. Finally.

nick said...

Emma's been waiting for the game to end so I'll put her to bed (what a terrible dad).

Congrats on the gritty murk in the water.

Amy, Weather Underground says sunset 8:26

Amy said...

Thanks, Ish, for the sunset time. Lucky Canadians!

We are off to get ice cream to complete our meal. Good night, all.

I'm curious.

nick said...

Amy, at first glance I thought you referred to her 5th grade reunion! As a high school dropout, I never get invited to the reunions. Ah well, I ache over the loss.

Rob said...

Detroit sunset - 9:09

Time for some BASKETBALL.

Amy said...

Ish, I am in Wellfleet tonight, not Longmeadow. About as far east as you can get in the US. Sunset here is earlier!

Rob said...

Oh, and on the other side of it, my grandmother, who lives up in Caribou, Maine (waaaayy up north... right on the eastern most border of Eastern Time Zone)... Sunrise there is 4:37 AM. Sunset is 8:27 PM.

And one last one...

Fairbanks, Alaska... Sunrise 3:04 AM... Sunset 12:39 AM

Rob said...

Ah, that makes sense! I rarely travel east-to-west very much like that... but you lose 10 minutes in the evening!

allan said...

Okay, I'll try to get a list. There were some that I never heard of. Maybe they visited by accident.

Jere said...

Nice win. And now Olberman is doing a speech, aimed at McCain.

nick said...

I had a friend in college from Caribou.

Rob said...

Okay... I have now seen it all.

Chris Berman is calling the US Open. (golf) GOLF! Does he yell back back back back back back when they hit off the tee?

Rob said...

I had a friend in college from Caribou.

It's such a nice area up there. So many open fields - fools you into thinking you're in the high plains.

Jere said...

I just checked my statcounter, always fun to see the country list. One of my last five hundred hits was from Mauritius. (A country off the coast of Madagascar.)

Arroyo dong in Cincinnati.

That's certainly something I like about Timlin. He has a shitty outing, then he comes out the next night and it's behind him. He's a veteran, so even though you don't get the good, consistent pitching, you get the mentality.

laura k said...

Fairbanks, Alaska... Sunrise 3:04 AM... Sunset 12:39 AM

But it's better than that. By mid-June the sun never really sets in Alaska. It gets twilight-y around 2 a.m. but by 4 is bright daylight again. You can read by daylight at midnight.

Mauritius. (A country off the coast of Madagascar.)

The current favourite location for sweatshops.

Is that Drew signing paying off yet?
A lot of long balls this year. How is our pace, better than years past or other teams?

Benjamin said...

Somewhere, ish is happy.

Benjamin said...

Our 78 homers are on pace for 183. Last year we had 166. In 2006, we had 192.

Seems like we always cool off a bit in the second half of the season, though. Not sure what the pace was at this point last year.

Probably shouldn't have to ask that, but hey.

11:54 pm... Probably the outcome of the Celtics game. Yep, that was awesome. Over and out.

There's more Irish Sox fans than you'd think.. and yes, we do watch Seinfeld (the 2nd greatest sitcom of all time) over here. Infact, my first real exposure to baseball was the spitting incident, and I still have a soft spot for the Mets (favourite NL team).
