Firebrand Q Of The Week

Evan at Firebrand will be asking a bunch of Red Sox bloggers one question every week. The first round is here:
When J.D. Drew returns from injury, how should the Red Sox use Mark Kotsay?
Me:
Kotsay should be used as a 4th/5th outfielder. Drew will still need a few days off and Coco Crisp and Jacoby Ellsbury are not hitting consistently enough, though Crisp has been much better since the beginning of August. Jason Bay will likely be the only outfielder in the lineup every single day. The other four can be mixed and matched, depending on the opposing pitcher and other factors.
Games at 7 PM:
Yankees/Rays
Twins/Blue Jays
Tampa Bay's lead in the East could shrink to 2.5 tonight.

Another blown save for Hansen. He just got called back up and is absolutely shitting the bed.

Also can use Kotsay at first down the stretch to give Youkilis a day off here and there until Sean Casey returns.

agreed.

Hansen is such a sad case. Kid had potential, but I'm glad he's squandering it elsewhere.

Sean Casey returns.

He returns tommorrow to as well, right?

MLB headline: "Yanks not quite ready to hand Rays keys to East".

And the MFY have them?

They should've gone with "Yankees not quite dead yet, think they're getting better, would like to go for a walk".

5-0 FKR.

Rasner's a waste of oxygen.

Fooking Yankees.

Minnesota's losing 2-0 in the bottom of the sixth.

SCOTT KAZMIR IS THROWING A NO-HITTER.

I'm not sure if Sean Casey returns tomorrow. I really don't know who's coming back when, only that Beckett will pitch tomorrow.

...Scott Kazmir's no-longer throwing a no-hitter!

Benjamin said...

As if Kazmir could pitch more than six innings anyway.

Casey was possible for Friday as of yesterday. No update such as I've seen.

This really belongs in a game thread, but since there's no game (and FJM doesn't allow comments)...

Actual conversation that happened a few minutes ago on the esteemed YES Network:

Michael Kay: There's a website, a baseball website, and if I knew the exact address of the website I'd give it to you, but what they do is they take the remainder of the season [game action deleted] and, through a computer, they play the remainder of the season a million times. They'll do it a million times so they can get every variation of how it could go, and they say that the Rays, with the lead that they have and the way they've been playing, have a 99.6% chance of making the post-season this year. So, it's almost miniscule that they wouldn't.

Ken Singleton: How 'bout finishing first? Did they--

MK: They didn't say that, they just said making the post season.

KS: Ah, ok

MK: ... so maybe they end up with the wildcard.

Al Leiter [awestruck]: You've gotta get that site. A *million* times?

MK: I had it written down somewhere, and somebody threw away the paper. So I'm going to blame it on somebody I who don't know.

AL: A *million*, wow, that's.... [reverential pause] that's a good... good database....

MK: [gives ball-strike count]

AL: Some fantasy league somewhere.

KS: See, but that's like playing the games on paper.

MK: Right.

KS: You have to play them out for real!

[game action]

MK: And at Tropicana Field you don't play on paper, you play it on ground up tires and sneakers.

KS: uh-huh

[game action and another tangent, in which Kay claims he's never seen a rooster in person - only on TV.]

[Willy Aybar hits home run.]

Holy shit on a stick that was a close one in Tampon. The Rays suck. They almost shit on their own win.

I read this quickly in my email -- and I thought I saw "Amy" instead of "andy" as the commenter.

I know Amy's language has gotten a bit bluer in the time she's been here, but I was surprised to think she referred to the Rays as "Tampon"!

This is pretty funny.

Kay -- the new Rizzuto?

I make the Amy/Andy mistake all the time. I wonder when I said that or I say wow Amy said that? We think alike.

I love when Amy curses. It has such impact!

I make the Amy/Andy mistake all the time. I wonder when I said that or I say wow Amy said that? We think alike.

However, if Amy posts about pulling a train with LBJ, JayBay and Ole Jed's A Millionaire, I will be concerned.

pulling a train

Well, now, there's an expression I don't think I have ever heard Laura use before.
