WS4: Yankees 7, Phillies 4

Yankees - 200 020 003 - 7 9 1
Phillies - 100 100 110 - 4 8 1
Way to go, Lidge.
Example
CC Sabathia (G1: 7-4-2-3-6, 113) / Joe Blanton (4.05, 106 ERA+)

Did you know that Sabathia has a higher career slugging percentage (.391) than the mighty Melky Cabrera (.385)?

Well, there's a lot, a lot of reasons why the Phillies have to win tonight's game.

I don't know about you, but I can't wait to get my hands on some fucking gourds and arrange them in a horn-shaped basket on my dining room table. ... "It's fall, fuckfaces. You're either ready to reap this freaky-assed harvest or you're not."

If I didn't know better, I'd think accudart was 9Casey...........

That would totally blow my mind.

9casey would have quoted the original with a big space between it and his comment.

Is anyone else watching the pre-game on MLBN? The Philly park is playing that Jay-Z/Alicia Keys New York song! I know it's Yankees batting practice, but, still, how about...not doing that?

It would be really nice if more Phillies than just Jayson Werth would actually do some hitting tonight.

laura k said...

I'm gonna try Phillies radio tonight w/ ESPN Intl on TV. I can't deal with Sutcliffe.

Unknown said...

Oh, this is a fuckin' great way to get it started

nice choice of pitcher there, gump jr.

And fucking blogger has renamed me again.

No, it keeps switching me from "Kevin" to my G-mail account name

For no reason

Ugh, this is depressing. Although I feel as though I should say hello to the trolls.

Unknown said...

Hey, a runner in scoring position

Unknown said...

There's one!

allan said...

let's see some bat, howard.

laura k said...

I lost my internet connection right when Utley hit that. I thought he did it.

Rob said...

Come on, you assholes. Give Charleston Chew the gift of an early shower.

Unknown said...

Fuck you Howard

allan said...

good god, he looks worse than tek on those feeble cuts.

allan said...

"kill" this rally, pls

laura k said...

Whatcha worried about, Joe? Aren't you planning on scoring more runs?

allan said...

we want a hit!

Unknown said...

Way to squander

Jere said...

made CC throw over XX pitches though

allan said...

24 pitches for fatass
11 for blanton

Rob said...

made Blanton wait XX minutes.

Rob said...

Joe Buck pisses me off enough without talking about football during the baseball game.

Unknown said...

Sit your ass down, Nick

laura k said...

Buck is notorious for that. Like Castig and college sports. Sorry, A. Even that might set you off.

laura k said...

The Phillies radio announcers are good. There's a huge delay but thank dog for MLB Audio.

Unknown said...

Can someone explain to me just how the FUCK Jeter won the AL Hank Aaron Award this year? Have these assholes never heard of Joe Mauer?

Hell, Jeter's not even the most deserving of that award on his own team...

laura k said...

Don't fans vote on that?

allan said...

wiki:
The Hank Aaron Award is given annually to the Major League Baseball (MLB) players selected as the top hitter in each league, as voted on by baseball fans and members of the media.

Unknown said...

Possibly, I'm not sure. If they do, then those fans are assholes.

Jere said...

shit, I heard Jeter was up for the errin' award and I voted for him!

laura k said...

I was about to quote the Wiki site too. Fans have 30% of the vote.

Any award that uses fan voting is complete bullshit.

Unknown said...

Yeah, it is a fan vote.

Bunch of bullshit...

allan said...

Jeter was 21st in the AL in OPS.

Four Yankees were ahead of him: Teix, Slappy, Shemp, Cano

allan said...

media vote?
also complete bullshit

laura k said...

Hank Aaron award on Wikipedia

allan said...

jeter was 34th in slugging
.003 ahead of ortiz

laura k said...

If you care seriously about baseball, it's best not to pay too much attention to the awards.

allan said...

In other news:

Jehovah won the Derek Jeter Award this year.

laura k said...

From above link:

"For the 1999 season, a winner was selected using an objective points system. Hits, home runs, and runs batted in (RBI) were given certain point values and the winner was the player who had the highest tabulated points total."

Oy.

allan said...

Jeter: "hey, is feliz allowed to go to his left like that? i'm pretty sure that's against the rules!"

laura k said...

LOL

Jere said...

This sounds like the Rolaids Fireman of the Year Award. That had some crazy system.

Unknown said...

Runs

Score them

allan said...

jeter

50th in HR
62nd in RBI

oh, well, now i see the light.

Philip said...

It happened with the Angels with Sean Figgins."

Grrr.

laura k said...

It's like there are two different games of baseball going on all the time. A pop-commercial-entertainment game and an actual sport, and the two exist in parallel universes that never meet.

Jere said...

If they do it a fourth time I'm telling mom

laura k said...

Phils announcers: Do they Yankees ever get a strike call and not complain?

allan said...

grab some pine, dumbo

laura k said...

Idiot Posada barking at the ump. Don't catchers know not to do that?

Jere said...

Ha! Yankees are like Town Hall Republicans. Just complain about everything even though you have everything, in an attempt to get more.

Unknown said...

Nice to see Blanton turn off the suckage.

Score runs

allan said...

thwen dumbo can complain when that same pitch is called a ball for a phillie, thereby admitting that it was a strike to him after all.

allan said...

after hitting bitch tits, blanton has retired 11 in a row.

laura k said...

Like Rush & Co complaining about the liberal media. Every last airwave and signal dominated by neocons complaining about the liberal media.

Jere said...

Why do they use a Castig call of a positive Yankee play on that ad?

Jere said...

Howard: wake up

laura k said...

A hit!

Jere said...

thanks

Unknown said...

Howard actually did something!

allan said...

good - now werth can dong in 2

allan said...

WHEELZ!!!!!!!!

Unknown said...

HAHAHAHAHA

Rob said...

Do not adjust your television set. Ryan Howard stole a base.

laura k said...

yeah!

Jere said...

Posada: "If I pretend to drop the ball no one can say I couldn't throw out Howard."

Jere said...

worst plan ever, Werth

Unknown said...

Not exactly a productive out...

allan said...

Rob said...

Howard still hasn't touched home plate. Heh.

If I were him I'd jokingly walk out to home plate on my way out and stomp on it.

Jere said...

Howard: Chris Chambliss '09.

Jere said...

It's the WS asshole. Get the very easy out.

Jere said...

Why aren't BcukCarver telling the world that Utley should have gotten one out on that play?

allan said...

phils get a generous strike 2 there.

Jere said...

If you know you have know idea how to bunt a baseball, why are you so pissed when you fail?

Unknown said...

Son of a bitch...

Jere said...

755. Number of bounces Jeter's two hits have taken before reaching outfield grass.

Unknown said...

Head hit keyboard

Rob said...

I never thought I'd say this going into the WS, but the Phillies just don't seem to have the pitching to get it done.

allan said...

here comes the fuckin' bloop and bleeder brigade.

Jere said...

"but the Phillies just don't seem to have the pitching to get it done."

These aren't rockets!

Unknown said...

Alright, Phuckers, get those runs back

Rob said...

But when you look at the next matchups, it's looking pretty good for the Phillies to make it to Game 7, with Chuck Norris against Cletus and Pedro against Horseface... If the Phils come back and win they should be in good shape the rest of the way then.

Unknown said...

That's a start

allan said...

phillies: don't make the daily news be right.

Jere said...

victorthree'n'0

allan said...

i DEMAND runs

Jere said...

where the fuck's the crowd?

allan said...

if not now, when?

Rob said...

Look at Jeter's incredible range to catch that popup!

Philip said...

C'mon, Kurt Cobain.

allan said...

sound very very low for me, so not sure they mentioned it, but

ryan howard stole 8 bases in 9 tries this year??!!?

Philip said...

Goddammit.

allan said...

werthless.

Unknown said...

Phuck

Unknown said...

I'd really love to know why the fuck blogger keeps changing my id back and forth.

allan said...

keep squandering, no need to score now, you'll have plenty more chances later in the game.

Jere said...

I'm sitting here rooting for Yankee injuries all this time, and I finally get one and it's Melky? That's like winning the "free ticket" prize on a scratch-off.

Jere said...

Tying run up, Philly fans. Start doing whatever it is you do.

allan said...

4 batters, 7 pitches

way to make the fat man work

assholes

Rob said...

Anybody else see the NFL on FOX from Afghanistan thing for next week (the football pre-post game shows from Afghanistan) and just laugh?

If I wanted to see them covered in dirt why not send them to Arizona?

Rob said...

If I had to drink every time Joe Buck said "Annnnnd" I'd be dead by the third inning.

allan said...

"you sure would, ish."

laura k said...

Is the US in a war in Arizona too? It's hard to keep up with the invasions.

allan said...

top of the order for PHI

Rob said...

Well Arizona is occupied territory...

laura k said...

A Philadelphia cop takes time out from bashing in brown people's heads to sing GBA.

Rob said...

Wow, FOX ISN'T showing that!

laura k said...

Well Arizona is occupied territory...

True

laura k said...

Wow, FOX ISN'T showing that!

The head-bashing or the singing?

Rob said...

Neither. They decided they wanted to make money by showing commercials.

laura k said...

One cool thing about the "international feed" is that they don't always go to commercials when you expect them to, like during pitching changes.

Come to think of it, that's the only cool thing. That, and it's not Fox.

Rob said...

I definitely agree with you about how Dave O'Brien's IQ and broadcasting value goes down depending on who his partner is.

Sut? YUCK.

Slippery Dong!

Unknown said...

LAUNCHED!!!

allan said...

that had a pleasant elevation.

Jere said...

ok, within one assholes. maybe the crowd will stay awake now.

Jere said...

Four Jeter slo-mo cheering replays.

PLANE CRASH

Unknown said...

Phuckers

allan said...

yet another 2 outs and no one on, and then 3 runs allowed inning.

Rob said...

Game of millimeters. Damon got as tiny a bit of a foul-tip as you can get with 2 outs to just stay alive. Then all that happened.

allan said...

alright, fruitbat, blow your first 3-run post-season lead of your career.

allan said...

a lidgeian inning so far.

Benjamin said...

Such shitty baseball.

Unknown said...

I hate life

allan said...

in no way do these fucktards deserve to win this series. yet i hope they somehow win 3 in a row and do.

Rob said...

Just as long as the Phillies don't get overcome by the fact they are down 3g to 1, it is a very, very real possibility to push to a Game 7.

Sounds simple to me. Cliff Lee continues to be Cliff Lee, out-pitches Cletus, then Pedro goes up against Tucan... That is the biggest question mark. And since this is the World Series, you get to Game 7 and ANYTHING can happen and everyone's available.

Gearing up for another epic Yankee collapse.

allan said...

I believe.

Rob said...

I definitely believe. Realistically the Phillies really couldn't win the series if Cliff Lee lost a game, so if he loses tomorrow, then that's just the way it goes and that's that. But he's their guy and he's going to come up big.

I love how people are now second-guessing Charlie Manuel for not pitching Lee tonight. Well, Pedro's not going on 3-days rest so there's no 3-man rotation here. Had Lee pitched tonight he most likely would have won and the series would be tied, but then Blanton would pitch Game 5 against Cletus and probably would have gotten beaten anyways, which would put Philly in the same spot as they will be anyways after tomorrow night - Down 3-2 in the series.

(psst. Molina in the lineup catching Cletus too. Maybe no Melky also w/the hamstring strain.)

Game 6 would still have Pedro and Pettitte, which is a toss-up but advantage Pedro.

The only difference between throwing Lee tonight instead of tomorrow: He could then start Game 7, but he'll be available in the bullpen anyways with there being no tomorrow. The beauty of WS7.

The two questions: Does something freaky happen tomorrow? And if not, can Pedro match or better his G2 performance on Wednesday?

Amy said...

Sorry to have missed that last two game threads, but my daughter and SIL were here so we watched with them (well, not so much our daughter). Maybe the results will be better if I thread during tonight's game...
