Over at The Hardball Times, Chris Jaffe has a post about upcoming managerial milestones. When the Red Sox win their 61st game of the 2011 season, it will be the 1,000th win of Terry Francona's career.
Fifty-five managers have reached that mark and Tito is one of two skippers who should make the list this summer. Mike Scioscia of the Angels has 980 wins and will almost certainly get there before Francona, so Tito should be #57 on the list.
Baltimore's Buck Showalter is at 916 wins. But since the Orioles have not topped 75 wins in any of the last six seasons, winning at least 84 games is unlikely.
(Also: Check out this BBTN video with Francona and Dustin Pedroia. Tito's comments about FY not being recognized while buying some hot dogs during a recent game are pretty funny, too.)
The BBTN video is great, as is the anecdote about the concession stand. I think my eyes roll visibly every time Kruk speaks though.
ReplyDeleteI still miss BBTN. I don't care how bad their analysis is. I want to lie on my couch and watch a baseball-only highlights show.
ReplyDeleteIt's the only thing I miss about the US!
The convertible cut :)
ReplyDeleteOMG KRUK = MORON
ReplyDelete"We got baseball players. With all the VORP and OPS nonsense we hear all the time, this team has baseball players."
Oy vey.
"I think he looks like a moron!"

Last year, he won.
He was better than you?
Well, he got the cards.
So he's not better, he's luckier?
Absolutely. You line out every now and then, don't you?
FOR A WHOLE YEAR?!?!?

Tito talking about rebuilding his basement from his cribbage profits from Bot!

(Man, I love Tito!)
With all the VORP and OPS nonsense we hear all the time, this team has baseball players.
ReplyDeleteRight on, John!!!! Getting on base all the time, slugging the ball for doubles and dongs, being way better than dime-a-dozen AAA scrubs ... that shit ain't gonna help you win!
Just 61 more win? So probably the first week of June!
ReplyDeleteone more unfortunate thing about your moving to canada, US now has MLB network, which is like baseball tonight, ALL THE TIME. its amazing.
ReplyDeletebut, small tradeoff
I clicked this link to hear people griping about Kruk's "baseball players" comment. You guys hit it right out of the park!
ReplyDeleteI'd love for someone to ask him, "What exactly do you mean?" just to see what he says. Probably something about "intangibles" or something similar, I reckon.
baseball tonight, ALL THE TIME. its amazing.
ReplyDelete:(
but, small tradeoff
I guess there is always a downside. I finally figured out what mine is.
"putting up numbers is a bonus."
ReplyDeleteA JoS 9 with baseball hearts will kill! (may not score any runs, but damn if they don't breathe baseball).
L, no ESPN in Canada?
