G16: Royals at Red Sox, PPD

Red Sox:
OFFICIAL: Tonight's Red Sox game at Fenway Park scheduled for 7:10 pm has been postponed to support efforts of law enforcement officers.
Example
Royals -
Red Sox -
James Shields / Clay Buchholz

David Ortiz has been activated for tonight's game.
My idea [during the rehab assignment] was to put the ball in play so I could run and see how it felt. I got the chance to taste that. It feels good. I think I'll go back to the big team [Friday] and try to keep [my swing] compact. I'm old enough to know to keep it compact. But my main key was to make sure that my foot was fine.
As expected, Jackie Bradley (.097/.263/.129) was optioned to Pawtucket.

John Lackey (right bicep strain) will make a rehab start for Portland on Monday.

Local media reports that this game may or may not take place tonight, because of the ongoing manhunt for the surviving suspect in the Marathon bombing.

I think we're all assuming the game will be postponed.

Cafardo tweeted that Ortiz said he (Ortiz) was told the game had been cancelled.

How on earth could they possibly play? No one can get anywhere, no one can leave the house. Even if the lockdown were lifted this afternoon (which sounds unlikely at this point - reports are it may go into the weekend), who could or would go to a baseball game? Seems kind of obvious, even at this distance.

Victorino tweets from clubhouse that Cafardo is wrong. Game has not been cancelled.

Seriously? Strange.

Middlebrooks, 2:05 PM: "Still no word on the game being cancelled. Waiting on city officials."

Game ppd a few minutes ago according to Fox and Globe.

My brother lives three blocks from the apartment in Cambridge where the accused brothers rented, my son on the same street in Somerville where the murdered MIT policeman lived. All the streets around both of their places are shut down to any traffic.

Jean's first comment on hearing about the 'shelter in place' business: "What are the dogs supposed to do?"

Now hearing reports it has been officially postponed.

Our niece lives a few blocks from the site of the explosion. She's been locked in throughout.

No game, no thread.

Mojo will rest and (hopefully) be back tomorrow.

People can go outside again, the lockdown order was lifted about an hour ago. That must be a big relief, although also scary.

I assume everyone has seen Jere's post? If not, you all should go read it.

This one.

And it's over. Second suspect in custody. Not from the Czech Republic.

And now that the initial scare is over, we can begin the healing... by bombing another country. To get "them."

That is the usual Step 2, yes.

Or use attacks at excuse for more repressive police states measures. .. Or do both!!
