G54: Orioles 3, Red Sox 2

Red Sox - 001 000 100 - 2 4 1
Orioles - 200 100 00x - 3 9 0
Seth Smith and Manny Machado hit solo home runs off Rick Porcello (6-8-3-1-5, 118) in the first inning. Hyun Soo Kim added a run-scoring double in the fourth.

The Red Sox could do nothing against Alec Asher (6.1-3-2-0-5, 95) and three relievers.

Pablo Sandoval hit a solo shot in the third. Xander Bogaerts led off the seventh with a double. After Mitch Moreland fouled out, Mychal Givens came in and struck out Hanley Ramirez. Jackie Bradley singled to center and Bogaerts scored. With Josh Rutledge at the plate, Bradley was thrown out trying to steal second.

The Red Sox were down by one run with two innings remaining. Darren O'Day walked Sandy Leon with two outs in the eighth, but Mookie Betts struck out. Brad Brach pitched the ninth and got two flyouts to center and a grounder back to the mound.

In tonight's game thread, FenFan posted:
"Craig Kimbrel was named AL Reliever of the Month for May 2017. He struck out 25 batters and allowed only ONE HIT (MLB.com At Bat's emphasis, not mine)."

I posted:
Batters went 1-for-40 off CK in May. The lone hit came on May 11 - and was an infield single that Kimbrel fielded. (I didn't see that game, so I'm not sure how weak the hit was. But clearly, it could not have been much of a line drive.)

Kimbrel's last 13 appearances (since April 30):
13.2 innings
1 hit
0 runs
1 walk
25 strikeouts
181 pitches - 72% for strikes (!)
Batters have a .069 OPS (!!) (OBP: .045 & SLG: .023)
