Nine Players Now Boycotting White House Visit

USA Today reports that nine Red Sox players - including a majority of the starting lineup - along with manager Alex Cora, will be absent from Thursday's ceremony at the White House.

Mookie Betts, David Price, Xander Bogaerts, Rafael Devers, Jackie Bradley, Hector Velazquez, Christian Vazquez, Eduardo Núñez, and Sandy Leon will not be attending. The article notes that the ten men are "all persons of color".
Cora has been resolute in his support of his native Puerto Rico since Hurricane Maria devastated the island in September 2017, killing more than 3,000, destroying the power grid and leaving scores homeless. ...

Just hours after Cora announced his decision, President Trump tweeted that "Puerto Rico should be very happy" with the U.S. response ... [including] the handful of paper towel rolls that the president fired like so many casual jump shots toward hurricane survivors ...
The story notes that Cora is "the first manager or coach of a championship team not to accompany his squad to the White House".

I'm a white guy, and I will not attend as well. I wasn't invited, and I'm not a member of the team, but I'm still not going.

I support Cora & The Nasty Boys who are not attending.

JD Martinez gave a speech giving thanks for “the once in a lifetime opportunity” to visit the White House.

Hopefully he means he’s boycotting future post-championship invites versus not winning another one...
