  5. FWIW - Tonights starters vs Tavarez - 16 for 58 with Grudzielanek being top dog at 8 for 26.

RE - from a post from the Beckett game about rookie starters vs the Sox. I'm still working on the spreadsheet but have some numbers on the Sox record the first time someone makes a start against them.

From 2002 until today there have been 172 games where the Sox have faced someone for the 1st time. The team record is 97 wins and 75 losses.

    Must. Not.

  9. I knew the Royals were playing respectible baseball these days but didn't realize they had the best ERA in the Majors since 6/24 as NESN pointed out (3.40).

    ReplyDelete
  10. Pedroia: the most exciting player on the team right now.

By far? I think he needs some company if we're going to play .600 and not .500 ball.

Not that I'm worried. Not really worried, no.

    ReplyDelete
  22. time for jason to hit his third slammy. at least i think its third!

    ReplyDelete
  23. OK. We scored. I feel a little better now

    ReplyDelete
  24. Sveum? Never need him -- unless he is coaching the other team. Plus Manny would have been out by 30feet.

My posting in CAPS is quite powerful. I should have done it earlier.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Tek sucks with bases loaded (<.222 ba), but at least we got a run home.

Now bases loaded again for Lugo!

nothing that doesn't happen to every opposing LF.

    ReplyDelete
  37. gameday has manny with an error. major bullshit call. nesn said they removed it.

  45. s1c, what would Buffyvision say? :)

    ReplyDelete
  46. Man it must suck to be named Gobble and actually look like a chicken.

    ReplyDelete
  47. 10 hits, 2 walks, 1 HBP. And only one run. Overbay up with bases loaded, two out. If he doesn't knock in a run, I'm going to bed for 40 days and 40 nights.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Don't worry, the Jays will blow it since they just can't beat the Yankees.

    ReplyDelete
  49. What would Buffyvision say?

Probably the same thing RemDawg has been saying tonight - Manny is playing deeper tonight and the balls are being caught!

What I really want to know is what did buffy say last night when Accardo balked in the run !!

    ReplyDelete
  50. Nighty-night, Jere. See you in late August!

    ReplyDelete
  51. If Timlin keeps this up, I may have to apologize.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Good night, everybody. At least Clemens can't get a win. Meanwhile, my boy Timlin comin' through again.

    ReplyDelete
  53. "What I really want to know is what did buffy say last night when Accardo balked in the run !!"

I'm sure they found a way to blame Manny.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Jere - hope you enjoy your sleep!!!

    ReplyDelete
  55. Mmmmmmmmm .... hibernation! [/homer]

    ReplyDelete
  56. All together now...

    gobblegobblegobble

    JIMMAH!

    ReplyDelete
  57. C'mon Jere, you may be right about Timlin, but do really want him as your boy? Bleh.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Was said in the same tongue in cheek way as when I said I wanted to go kill deer with him.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Even Joe Castiglione was talking about Manny's LF positioning tonight.

    ReplyDelete
  60. TC just said the Yanks game was a pitcher's duel and that Clemens only gave up one run. Not quite the "whole truth," Tom. (He did mention the Jays' pathetic numbers with RISP.)

    ReplyDelete
  61. actually, jere's deal sounds great. 40 days of sleep and emerge well-rested in plenty of time for the sox playoff run.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Toronto 1 / 13 RISP tonight.

Timlin has became Mr. Sixth Inning which means this will be his last year as a Sox (TG)!

    ReplyDelete
  63. "Was said in the same tongue in cheek way as when I said I wanted to go kill deer with him."

You may have noticed sarcasm is always lost on me.

    ReplyDelete
  64. "40 days of sleep and emerge well-rested in plenty of time for the sox playoff run."

    Don't give Tito any ideas!

"Timlin has became Mr. Sixth Inning which means this will be his last year as a Sox (TG)!"

Come onnnn. My boy's back, ba-bay!

    ReplyDelete
  65. Fuckin' A-Rod with a fuckin' 2-run double. Pathetic showing by the Jays' bats to do this to their pitcher. It was only a matter of time. All the Yankee fans (dressed as blue seats) are probably going nuts, thinking they have somehow helped. And now Youk gets robbed. This is becoming the most frustrating week of the year.

    ReplyDelete
  66. possible papi walkoff?

    "conrey" has tonight.

    ReplyDelete
  67. MFY fans - chanting MVP for A-Rod.

    ReplyDelete
  68. "MFY fans - chanting MVP for A-Rod."

They should be chanting "Tied for 32nd in batting average with Kenny Lofton".

But their scoreboard would never tell them to chant that.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Does anyone else think it's preposterous that announcers say "scuffling" when they mean "struggling"? Delcarmen was not "scuffling with his control." He wasn't rolling on the floor in a fight with his control. He was struggling with his control. Granted, a "scuffle" is another name for a fight, which can also be called a "struggle." But you can't "scuffle from the right side of the plate," or whatever. Terrible job. Remy just said it, and it must stop.

    ReplyDelete
  70. But their scoreboard would never tell them to chant that.

    :>)

Nice to see Tek doing something useful. Maybe he'll do good at the plate too. ...

    ReplyDelete
  71. Innings that the Sox have scored the most runs in:

    1st - 71 runs
    8th - 64 runs

    Lets get some runs boys

    ReplyDelete
  72. Nope. Tek still sucks with the stick.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Scuffling - baseball speak. Like calling a slow somg a ballad. Ballad doesn't mean slow, but tell that to a rock critic.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Ococ!

That means we now have RISP. Doomed.

    ReplyDelete
  75. OCOC.

    Time for some Lugo heroics.

    ReplyDelete
  76. 46 hits/walks in the last four games, and if we don't score again, it's a 1-3 record in those games. Lugo, knock this man in!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  77. Hold them here, then in the 9th it can be Drew singles, Pedroia Doubles and Ortiz singles for the walk off!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  78. "in in the 9th it can be Drew singles, Pedroia Doubles and Ortiz singles for the walk off!!!!!"

    i'm in

    ReplyDelete
  79. Mo going for the five-out save. Looks like the Jays, after giving up the lead finally, have gone right back to getting guys on. Will they score off Mo? One of these games better go the right way or--hey, I thought I was asleep...

    ReplyDelete
  80. Jere, what are you doing up at this hour?

    ReplyDelete
  81. snuffer always gets it done

    now for flo

    ReplyDelete
  82. At least Papelbon is on tonight.

Further proof that saves are a meaningless number. (As if any further proof was needed.)

    ReplyDelete
  83. the almighty alex rios (4-4) whiffs against fruitbat to end the 8th.

    ReplyDelete
  84. 10 hits, 5 walks for the Jays. 1 run.

This is it ya know. This is the meal. So stock up, Red Sox!

    ReplyDelete
  85. cmon you guys, it's octavio dotel. let's get it done ferchrissakes.

    ReplyDelete
  88. I'M NOT PANICKED. SRSLY.
if we weren't losing ground, but gaining at (potentially) 7 games up it would be different. it's just..ugh. fucking KC. shoulda owned them.

    ReplyDelete
  89. When Schiling comes back anyway we can arrange to have him ride in on a White Horse.......

No one sholud be panicked , everybody should be pissed off, this embarassing ........

Even when Crsip tripled , And I don't care if Lugo is turning it around, If he had someone he trusts to deliver in that spot he would have pinch hit for him.....They need to find a bat of the bench

    ReplyDelete
  91. Want to know why they are less than .500 in 1 run games start with this:

    Runs scored on 5/13 in 9th - 6 runs.

Including tonight Runs Scored in 9th inning - 26 runs.

    ReplyDelete
  92. The Red Sox and the opponents of the Yanks, over the last four games for each team, have had a total of 122 baserunners on hits and walks. Yet they've gone 1-7 in those eight total games.

    ReplyDelete
  93. I think all those stats are great , but tonight why did he leave Tavarez in so long.......

    ReplyDelete
  94. No one sholud be panicked , everybody should be pissed off, this embarassing ........

that's what i am more than anything. irritated. i was having a nice dinner and wine and it mf ruined my evening. 4 runs in the 5th? suck my dick, srsly. my dead grandmother could pitch better.

  96. is there any reason why we cannot come from behind this year?? i mean, seriously...can we not just take care of business against KC? i feel a trade coming...theo needs to fix the clubhouse...somebody is killing the rally...

    ReplyDelete
  97. quote from the ap report "I think I changed my game plan" in the fourth, Tavarez said. "I wasn't attacking the hitter like I was doing earlier."

    No freaking s*** sherlock!
