G159: Red Sox 6, Spiders 1

Spiders - 000 001 000 - 1 2 1
Red Sox - 320 000 10x - 6 9 0
Lester did not allow a hit for five innings, no doubt bringing back memories of May 19 for many of the 37,726 fans at Fenway. But Josh Barfield began the sixth with a double into the left field corner and later scored on a one-out single to right by Jamey Carroll.

With the no-no gone, Lester was pulled after six innings (6-2-1-1-4, 86) and Terry Francona used three pitchers out of the pen: Justin Masterson, Hideki Okajima and Jonathan Papelbon -- each of whom pitched one inning, faced three batters, struck out one hitter, and threw 12 pitches.

The Red Sox struck early and often against Sowers. In the first, Jacoby Ellsbury singled and took third on a hit-and-run single from Jed Lowrie. Dustin Pedroia's sac fly to the track in left-center brought in Lyndon for a 1-0 lead. Sowers then walked Kevin Youkilis and Jason Bay to load the bases. Jason Varitek's fly ball to center scored Lowrie and Mark Kotsay's doubled brought in Yook.

In the second, Ellsbury pulled a one-out double down the right field line and scored on Lowrie's two-bagger to left. Lowrie moved to third on Pedroia's fly to right and scored on Yook's single to left-center. The Sultan of Sweat capped the scoring with a solo home run to deep left in the seventh.

Earlier in the afternoon, the Tigers beat the Rays 7-5, keeping Boston's slim AL East hopes alive. The Blue Jays beat the Yankees 8-2.

Jeremy Sowers (5.48, 81 ERA+) / Jon Lester (3.26, 140 ERA+)

Tampa Bay can clinch the AL East by beating Detroit this afternoon -- or if the Red Sox lose tonight's game to Cleveland.

  1. Tack on two more for the Tigers. 4-1 in the bottom of the 6th.

  3. EST or EDT?

Just kidding. Anyway, yeah, hopefully it won't be too long. 6-2 Tigers in the 7th now. Not that I'm too concerned. I highly doubt the Rays are going to go 0-4 and the Red Sox will go 4-0. Maybe one of those two will happen, but the odds are low that both would. Especially the Rays losing 4.

  4. hey all--all three games of Yankee series on sale now at redsox.com. I grabbed Fri and SUn since I already had Sat. This way I'm covered for seeing the Pesky ceremony whatever day they end up having it, with the crazy rain and all. But Sunday, when there probably be at least one game, that day has a lot of categories, including standing room.

  5. Top 9: Rays get a 1-out single against Rodney. Tying run at bat.

    How much is standing room?

  10. By the way, I did have a thought about if the Rays win the division tonight or tomorrow night. The East and WC will be wrapped up, which could actually be good news for Boston. Bad news for Jere.

What if tomorrow night and Saturday's games are rained out? There is a big one-two punch of storms coming for tomorrow and Saturday... If the playoffs are already decided in the East, those two games wouldn't need to be played, would they?

That could be very beneficial going out to Anaheim.

  12. ish: SRO is 20.

Yeah, meaningless games are not made up, though they will try to get them all in to get the $. Look at the final standings from most any year, you'll see plenty of game totals under 162.

I'd get my $ back on any unplayed games. I just got all 3 to be covered.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Fucking rain. You know, I wait all fucking year and plan a trip around this game and it's going to get canceled. Fuck sakes.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Wow. Only 20 bucks for standing room? Is that what you got?

Wonder if I could get two and bring my father along for Sunday, perhaps. I'm not very optimistic, but that's just my nature as far as tickets go.

    ReplyDelete
  15. From where I'm sitting, looks like the games just sold out in the last few minutes. I wouldn't go for Friday or Saturday, anyway, because of the rain.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I just registered for the ALCS/WS ticket drawing...

    ReplyDelete
  17. ish, next time I give you the tip, just jump on it instead of askin all these questions:)

Still Saturday left, and I was able to just now get (meaning to the point where I could've bought but didn't because I already have tix) 1 RF roof box seat for Sunday. And try again tonight at midnight.

It wasn't really a question of optimism, more like, tickets were released, so I picked the games I wanted and they were right there waiting for me to buy.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Yeah I'm in the drawing, too--it started with ALDS, and if you're not selected, you're entered for next round automatically. (I was rooting against myself for ALDS so I'd have a shot at the later rounds...though I could've just waited till now to enter.)

    ReplyDelete
  19. I think as far as these last couple of games go, I'm not too concerned with not going. I at least know what to do next year, and I know what to expect.

    ReplyDelete
  20. The rain is messing everything up, but Red Sox-Yanks at Fenway is always the hardest to get, and even when it's meaningless, it's like no other matchup from a crowd perspective.

Also, Celts go on sale tomorrow at 10 AM if anyone cares about that. And to answer your Q, yes, I got the $20 standing room for Sunday, and a fourth row seat in dead center for $26 on Friday night. Something similar woulda run me three times as much $ at the least on the scalper sites.

    ReplyDelete
  21. scheduled outage in one minute!

    ReplyDelete
  22. nice Syoukp at first, two quick outs for Lester

    ReplyDelete
  23. Sowers, now he's on a lot of teams.

    ReplyDelete
  24. We once did a taste/spice team, with Salty (lamacchia), Pepper, Sweet, etc.

Sowers is also on a candy team.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Lowrie Loves Lefties.

    Laser? Lament.

    ReplyDelete
  26. whatever happens with the rain-affected schedule this weekend, Hank will complain.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Well, there will be a game on Sunday, so they can pitch Mussina then. And he'll try and fail to get his 20th win.

    ReplyDelete
  28. All alcoholic drink team

    Tonight alone: Sowers, Remy, Bailey

    ReplyDelete
  29. It would be more unfair for the Red Sox to play make-up games that have no meaning to the postseason.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Here for a bit, but other things cooking tonight. I am trying to tell myself not to hope for the division, given the odds, but I just can't help myself...

    ReplyDelete
  31. I love when we score in the first inning.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Okay, so here's the scenario.

Friday and Saturday's games get rained out.

Would you rather see Tampa win tomorrow, win the division, and make those two games meaningless and give the Sox some more rest and ability to set things up for Anaheim?

Or would you rather see Tampa lose those three games, requiring the two rained out games to be played against the Yankees with the chance to win the division and host Minnesota/Chicago?

    ReplyDelete
  33. Moose has to wait til Sunday anyway--but I'm just sayin', Hank will find something to complain about. Because they really might end up losing a game and maybe he'll accuse us of using the rain to get extra rest or something. Though FO surely wants three days' worth of gate action. See, then if they play all 3, he'll say we were money-hungry and played in bad conditions, risking his players' health.

    ReplyDelete
  34. You still-hoping-for-the-division people are amazing.

    ReplyDelete
  35. How about this--what if TWO games are PPD, and only one can be played Sunday, and Tampa loses all 4. So they schedule a double-header Monday. And then the Sox lose game 1. Do they play game 2?

    ReplyDelete
  36. I like the idea of winning the division for the sake of winning the division, BUT what do you all think of our relative chances against LA, CHI or MN? I would rather not have the division and get to the ALCS.

And as for resting the team, sometimes that seems to backfire---loss of momentum, etc. I can't remember which team it was (duh) that had clinched early and was supposed to be unstoppable and faltered badly in the post-season last year (I think).

    ReplyDelete
  37. ROckies had like 8 days before facing us in WS. Nobody wanted to play them.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Mets quickly fall behind. What the f is their p-lem?

    ReplyDelete
  39. Are you all suggesting they would just cancel (if rained out) this weekend's games if they don't affect who wins the division? If so, then in theory all games between non-contenders could all be cancelled now.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Yeah, thanks, Jere. I thought it was the Rockies. So much for the rested up theory.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Mets?

I heard a rumor that they suck.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Friday Saturday off, Sunday they'd play, then have Monday Tuesday and possibly Wednesday off. They'd be able to do workouts, etc.

Not sure. But I know that having to play a doubleheader on Sunday, then a game on Monday wouldn't be real fun.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Mets quickly fall behind. What the f is their p-lem?

    They suck.

    ReplyDelete
  44. they'll just try to make up games through Sunday. After that, any meaningless ones get the ax.

    ReplyDelete
  45. So no one has an opinion of our chances versus LA, CHI or MN? Even though LA has the best record and are a very strong team, we always seem to beat them in the post-season. Maybe being WC would be best?

    ReplyDelete
  46. The post-season is so unpredictable. Red Sox fans should never forget that!

    ReplyDelete
  47. we always seem to beat them in the post-season

Everyone says this, but I can't see what bearing past success against a uniform has on this year. They're a different team and so are we.

    ReplyDelete
  48. If so, then in theory all games between non-contenders could all be cancelled now.

If the games are rained out, sure. If not, then they'll be played, of course -- there is, after all, $$ involved.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Re Sox/MFY -- As long as we batter the bejesus out of the Bigot, I'll be cool.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Yep, love the unpredictability. I take nothing for granted.

    ReplyDelete
  51. As I was trying to say when Blogger went under...

The Red Sox were a different team when they last faced the Angels. Those last three games were the last three that Manny played for Boston.

That means no Bay, no Byrd, and no Kotsay. Among others.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Our bats are hot tonight. Even Jed has two hits!

    ReplyDelete
  53. The Red Sox were a different team when they last faced the Angels.

And the Angels were different too.

We'll be strong against whoever we play.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Oops, I didn't read carefully. Ish, I thought you meant the last time we faced them in the postseason.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Clay Buchholz started two of the last six games against LAAAAA

    ReplyDelete
  56. OK, so Ish, you think we are better off against the Angels than against the White Sox or Twins?

    ReplyDelete
  57. OK, so Ish, you think we are better off against the Angels than against the White Sox or Twins?

No, I think we're much better off playing Chicago or Minnesota, but I think the Red Sox match up better against the Angels now than they did back in July. Also, I think if the Rays played the Angels, the Red Sox would have had a better go of it in the ALDS and then also in the ALCS against either Los Angeles or Tampa, because those two teams would probably have duked it out over five games.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Why is NESN doing a football interview during our baseball game???

    ReplyDelete
  59. Very respected and very successful New England Patriot, Troy Brown, who's meant a lot to the same people watching this game tonight, announced his retirement today, and is taking in the ballgame tonight.

So it's a couple minute interview. So what.

    ReplyDelete
  60. ho's meant a lot to the same people watching this game tonight

Not everyone! In the room I'm sitting in, it's oh-for-two.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Not everyone! In the room I'm sitting in, it's oh-for-two.

One for two in my house tonight. Might be two-for-three but my father's out in Seattle tonight.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Honestly, tho, it's not just football. I hate all the in-game interviews. It's all just a bunch of cliches, and it interrupts the game, like a commercial. Just a peeve of mine, I guess.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Honestly, tho, it's not just football. I hate all the in-game interviews. It's all just a bunch of cliches, and it interrupts the game, like a commercial. Just a peeve of mine, I guess.

I agree with you. Most of them are promotions of one sort or another. At least in this case it wasn't a promotion.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Yes, that's true, an honest interview, not trying to sell anything.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Looking back on the last six games against the Angels, some of them could really have gone either way.

The two games HH pitched were not good games, but if someone else pitched it could have been more interesting. July 19th was a close one: Beckett went 8 IP giving up 4 runs, while Joe Saunders went 6 2/3 giving up only 2.

Wakefield and Garland were closely matched on July 20th. Wakefield went 7 giving up 4 runs, while Garland went 6 2/3 giving up 3. Final score 5-3 them.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Allan just pointed out to me that the Spiders are wearing caps with a cursive "I" on it, not the racist logo. At least Sowers is, we assume everyone else is too.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Dice-K had a pretty ugly game on July 28th at Fenway. 5 innings, 6 runs. But Weaver went 5 2/3 giving up 3 runs. That was another two-run win for the Angels, 7-5.

One game that was a clear win for LAAAAA was the game where Lackey almost threw a no-hitter.

Final game against them was July 30th - Beckett was shelled in 5 1/3 innings, giving up 8 runs while Saunders went 6 and gave up 2.

So three of those six games were won by only two runs by Anaheim. Neither of those were pitched by Buchholz. So, conceivably there are 5 of those 6 games that could have gone either way had they been against the September Red Sox.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Thanks, Ish. I find your assessment helpful.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Now, L, THIS is a promotion. Lou Gorman's pretty cool, but he's just looking for money.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Hi everyone, just dropping in briefly this evening... I am pretty beat from my late night Tuesday plus getting home pretty late from last night's (brutal) Mets game.

We now return you to Lou Gorman.

    ReplyDelete
  71. efd, I was exhausted watching that Mets game on TV. I can't imagine what it would have been like being there. 16 walks total, right?

    ReplyDelete
  72. Allan's been talking about that, but his computer won't let him post it.

    ReplyDelete
  73. 65 pitches for Lester so far, though.

    66

    ReplyDelete
  74. It's also b/c I'm not from New England and have no allegiance to any other New England teams. So stuff about the Pats or the Bruins might as well be about the whatevers to me.

    ReplyDelete
  75. I'd have to check the boxscore to be sure, but 16 sounds about right!

It was awesome when Delgado hit the grand slam, and distinctly un-awesome after that.

This game is looking pretty good, though! And belated hooray for clinching the WC on Tuesday!

    ReplyDelete
  76. I finally answered Amy's playoff question before, but it got ate up by Blogger.

    ReplyDelete
  77. Greetings all.
Lester - looking pretty sharp tonight.
I see Coco's not in the line-up. I guess we know where he's at, eh RS?

    ReplyDelete
  78. Efd, are the Mets your NL team, or you just had tix to that game?

    ReplyDelete
  79. L-girl, I'm with you on the interviews... I never heard of Troy Brown until tonight. And now he's retired!

(And I *am* from New England, although I haven't lived there in about 30 years.)

    ReplyDelete
  80. There's a night in May this feels a little similar to. Pitch counts, walks, etc.

    ReplyDelete
  81. Allan can't answer anybody and he's really pissed off at his computer.

    ReplyDelete
  82. Was just about to agree with L on Troy Brown. Then figured it was too late. But now efd says it, so....he also means nothing to me.

    ReplyDelete
  83. he meaning Brown, not efd. Efd means something to me:)

    ReplyDelete
  84. are the Mets your NL team, or you just had tix to that game?

A little of both... I really don't follow the NL very closely, but I like the Mets (as long as they're not playing the Red Sox). And The efd-ette [an appellation I love, btw] and I wanted to get to a game at Shea this year.

    ReplyDelete
  85. Yes, many bagels. I'm happy I tuned it from the beginning.

    ReplyDelete
  86. safe! I'm really rooting for FY in the batting race... should be a mattingly/winfield weekend for that.

    ReplyDelete
  87. FUCKING CHRIST - I GOT THE GODDAMN FUCKING MIRABELLIS OF FUCKING COMPUTERS -- SO FUCKING SLOW. TWO FICKING WINDOWS OPEN AND STILL SLOW AS FUCKING HSIT ........

    ....

So from an hour and a half ago when fucking Gorman was in the booth -- "Everett Scott - YAY!"

    ...

    FUCK!!!!!

    ...

    bagels for lester!!!

    ReplyDelete
  88. Was just about to agree with L on Troy Brown. Then figured it was too late.

It's never too late to agree with L-girl.

(And Redsock can't accuse me of ass-kissing since he can't post!)

    ReplyDelete
  89. Jere, what was your response? Can you summarize it without having to retype the whole thing you lost?

I love them bagels...even with nothing on them. :)

And who the hell IS Troy Brown (and I have lived in New England for almost 40 years....)

    ReplyDelete
  90. The efd-ette [an appellation I love, btw]

I picked it up from Allan, I think it's a SoSH thing. Better than "Mrs Efd", I guess.

    ReplyDelete
  91. And who the hell IS Troy Brown (and I have lived in New England for almost 40 years....)

All-time receiving leader for the Patriots.

    ReplyDelete

    Thanks Jere :)

It's never too late to agree with L-girl.

    I agree!

Amy displays her interest in football, which apparently is the same as mine.

    ReplyDelete
  96. ish--if you're still interested in Sunday, I just "got" (didn't really buy) two RF grandstand, though they were on opposite sides of the park. The key is when it says "tickets not available in that quantity," just try again. And again. I clicked like 30 times, finally 1 ticket came thru. THen, click continue, click "add another game," choose the same game, and begin process again to get the other single.

    ReplyDelete
  97. Not a big football fan either, but I have relatives in Boston who are crazy Patriots fans so I have a little interest from them.

  98. Surprise! Surprise! Surprise!

    Soo-prahse...

    ReplyDelete
  99. OK, guess the bagels are done.

    ReplyDelete
  100. That's it. A grand effort, Mr Lester!

    ReplyDelete
  101. Dear Jasons
The 1st 4 batters in our order have been reapers off of Sowers.
    Please join them.
    Thank you,

    ReplyDelete
  102. NESN with the jinx showing the scoreboard.

    ReplyDelete
  103. Masterson warming.

The original goal of the game was to get Lester out of there relatively soon. I guess that's a good thing about not throwing a no-hitter.

    ReplyDelete
  104. Obviously my interest is so limited that I didn't know Troy Brown.

I do know that Tom Brady hurt his knee in the first game, so I am not totally ignorant.

    ReplyDelete
  105. Ish, I love how you always can see the glass as half full! Good that Lester gave up a hit, good whether we face LA or if we don't. Your attitude just makes me smile!

    ReplyDelete
  106. Better than "Mrs Efd", I guess

    I think so, yes.

    ReplyDelete
  107. right, 30 bucks, but you could stand together in the standing room or whatever.

Or wait till midnight and see if they put more tix out there.

    ReplyDelete
  108. Here's a research project for someone... how often does a run score in the same inning in which a no-hitter is broken up? It seems to me that it happens a lot, but maybe that's just my perception.

    ReplyDelete
  109. Sid is more than welcome to no-hit the Angels.

    ReplyDelete
  110. oh, Amy, what I was saying was I think it's better to play the top team in a 5 game series anyway. Slightly. Then, after we take the Angels out, we get a nice long series against the crappy central team, or the Rays, where all 7 games would feel like home games, as all the Florida Sox fans would pack that place.

    ReplyDelete
  111. Lester at 82 - think he's coming back out?
    My guess would be no.

    ReplyDelete
  112. Here's a research project for someone... how often does a run score in the same inning in which a no-hitter is broken up? It seems to me that it happens a lot, but maybe that's just my perception.

Seems to me, too. I wonder if it's true.

    ReplyDelete
  113. So it sounds like Jere and Ish think we should stick with the WC! So we WANT to lose at least one more game?

Or is this preparing us for the reality?

    ReplyDelete
  114. right, 30 bucks, but you could stand together in the standing room or whatever.

Just talked to my father, who's not interested, so I guess it's a no-go. But that's all right. I've entered the ALCS/WS drawing and I've popped my Fenway cherry on Monday, so I'm more than satisfied right now.

    ReplyDelete
  115. Sosock, I'd also be surprised if he comes back out,

    ReplyDelete
  116. I love the showing-the-scoreboard thing. It's part of the don't-say-it-out-loud thing, one of the superstitions I cop to.

    ReplyDelete
  117. that's just how I feel about the 5-gamer. It's like Allan said--it's flukey. I'd rather win the division, though. Or have LAA in a 5 with home field advantage.

    ReplyDelete
  118. I've popped my Fenway cherry on Monday, so I'm more than satisfied right now.

LOL! Still satisfied days later---that was some first time!

    ReplyDelete
  119. Seriously, still-thinking-division folks, you actually think this, or you're just putting out what you would like to have happen, in a joking way? Pls be honest.

    ReplyDelete
  120. Or is this preparing us for the reality?

As far as I'm concerned, I'm preparing for reality. The Rays play three more games - the Red Sox play four including tonight. I don't see the Rays losing three games.

Ideally, I'd like to have seen the Red Sox play the Central, have the Rays and Angels drag out five games and then play the Rays in the ALCS. Have Tampa take care of the Angels for us.

But now with the weather, that would probably require a doubleheader on Sunday and a game on Monday. I don't think tomorrow night's game will be played, and I highly doubt Saturday's 3:55 start will either.

    ReplyDelete
  121. Boy, get Heidi next to a couple young studs and she suddenly can't talk!

    ReplyDelete
  122. Yeah, but showing the scorecard on national TV is almost like saying out loud :)
Oh wait, this isn't ON national TV, is it?
    That's why I'm watching GDGD :(

    ReplyDelete
  123. Still satisfied days later---that was some first time!

    LOL @ Amy

    * * * *

Check out Lars Anderson. Hot! Allan tells me he is also smart and well read, besides being a great pitcher. Wow.

    ReplyDelete
  124. Yeah, but showing the scorecard on national TV is almost like saying out loud :)

Oh, I disagree. I like the zero's shot.

  125. I saw Lars Anderson in a game in Trenton over the summer... he did well, as I recall. I don't think Bard pitched that day, though.

  126. Check out Lars Anderson. Hot! Allan tells me he is also smart and well read, besides being a great pitcher. Wow.

You mean Daniel Bard? Lars is the slugger and Bard is the pitcher. Both played in the Sea Dogs game I saw earlier this summer.

  127. Is that what it takes to get him out of the lineup?

  128. I had it wrong that he was the pitcher. Other than that, same comment. :)

  129. But now with the weather, that would probably require a doubleheader on Sunday and a game on Monday.

(tin foil hat time...) So what does this look like from the Rays' perspective? Are they better off playing their 4th string in hopes of forcing Boston to play make up games and forfeit the rest time ahead of the ALDS?

  130. Laura, to answer your question, I honestly do not think we will win the division, given the numbers. BUT stranger things have happened. Who would have believed the last four games of the 2004 ALCS?

  131. I'm envious of you folks who have seen minor league games this year. We're going to try to see the Paw Sox at Buffalo next year.

  132. with any luck, masterson has sobered up from the clinching party by now.

  133. Amy, thanks. I'm not sure stranger things have happened. :)

  134. If Anderson does make it to the big-league team, expect some tie-ins with this museum.

I think the Rays want to just win their game tomorrow and win the division. They know they'll be facing a very good team in the ALCS if they make it, either the Red Sox or the Angels, and that team will have played 3, 4, or 5 games. So whether the Red Sox play Friday and Saturday's games shouldn't matter to Tampa.

  136. Efd, did you know that place already?

  137. Minor league games ARE fun.
But I still wish I was near a Major League team.

  138. This is hysterical on the radio. Dave O'Brien's eating apple crisp and is marveling about it while doing the play-by-play.

    ReplyDelete
  139. yeah, I went there a few times when I was a kid. I'd forgotten all about it, but the third or fourth "Lars Anderson" mention shook the memory loose.

  140. just flipped over to the Mets game for a sec -- it was tied at 3 earlier, but I see Chicago has scored three runs and now leads 6-3 in the top of the 7th.

    With a steady rain falling.

Wow. Only 20 bucks for standing room? Is that what you got?

Its amazing what we choose to accept...20 bucks = no seat...

Playoofs should be real interesting this year Fox must be wetting thier collective shorts with the possibilty of a Sox- Cub , or a Sox- Dodger matchup..

  143. Does anyone remember (so I don't have to look it up) how many games we won the division by last year?

  144. A Sox-Cub matchup would be very nice for our household.

  146. Thanks, 9C.

Nielsen, ha. No, it's a 1918 rematch, on the 90th anniversary. Good publicity for Allan's book. He has to try to do some interviews for tie-ins.

  147. First time since 1989 no AL player hit 40 HR's in a season, could happen this year.....Pitching must have really improved this year....maybe.

  151. Remy, discussing Hank Steinbrenner's comments about Torre and LA earlier this week: "Why take a shot at someone who did so much for your organization?"

Gosh, Jerry, I don't know. Why would someone do that?

  152. He pay you for that?

    I volunteered! What a sap, eh? ;)

But I worked hard on that book, too. I like people to read it.

I don't know much about the book .I should get it.How does it read ,like a histroy book, or does he do alot of interviews?

  154. 9C, it's a story, with the young Babe Ruth as the main character. I mean, it's all factual, but it's told in a narrative, story form. The interview material is worked in, not like Q&As.

It's a lot about baseball during that time. 8 teams in each league, a western road trip meant taking the train to Chicago or St Louis. No radio even.

There are some sample chapters on the website, including the 1st world series game, if you want to check it out. 1918redsox.com

Babe Ruth was incredible. Allan and I both totally fell in love with him from his reasearch.
