Truck Day

The Red Sox last played a baseball game on October 19, 2008 -- 110 days ago, a bit less than 16 weeks. It feels much longer ago than that.

The Globe has the info on today's activities at Fenway Park:
The 18-wheeler that carries the Red Sox' spring training equipment from Boston to Fort Myers, Fla. will depart from Gate D at Fenway Park at 1 p.m. today to make the 1,467-mile trek from Yawkey Way to Edison Avenue.

The truck [photo at link] arrived at a chilly Fenway Park this morning just after 6 a.m. and the packing began at around 7:30 a.m. ... Red Sox Hall of Famer Johnny Pesky will serve as the Grand Marshal of the truck departure this afternoon. ...
The Globe's blog also has some pictures from last year's Truck Day and video of Kevin Youkilis in an indoor batting cage.

Woohoo!

Both my kids are wearing Red Sox jerseys to school today. Ok, I'm wearing one too.

Misadventures in Spelling:

A SoSHer posted a picture of a box of stuff with the word "dougout" written on it.

Must be a supply of chicken parm.

Turns out the the "dougout" picture is from 2007. Still ...

I came home from work today and totally wanted a steak, a baked potato, and a Red Sox game at 7.

I can taste it!

Everyone is so excited about baseball, but I have two more months of movie-watching left, and there's three feet of snow on the ground.

A truck left Boston. OK. But it's still winter. Still two months to go.

Movies are seasonal up there? Surely you can at least watch spring training stuff in a couple weeks.

Movies? You should rent The Sweet Smell of Success by Alexander Mackendrick w/ Burt Lancaster. And if you've seen that, you should probably rent A Woman is a Woman by Jean-Luc Godard w/ Anna Karina. And if you've already seen that, then you're probably ready for the By Brakhage DVD.

Ahhhhh... movies.

"Ready" for? Oy.

Benjamin, yes, movies are seasonal for me. I watch baseball from Opening Day to the end of the WS. Then Movie Season starts, and I binge on movies until Opening Day.

I don't watch spring training. Unless we're there, that's fun. Other than that, I just wait for the real thing.

Living in NYC, I would still watch a few movies during baseball season - on off days, or on the night of a day game, or early on west coast nights.

But now that we live in a house, any baseball night off, we hang out outside. So far I haven't watched one movie during baseball season, 3 years running - not one.
