Lugo Traded To Cardinals

Bernie Miklasz of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that the Cardinals have agreed to swap Chris Duncan for Julio Lugo.

I wouldn't care if it was Sandy Duncan or Duncan Hines, but Chris Duncan is an actual major league outfielder. Had a hell of a 2006, hitting only .227/.329/.358 this year. He is also MFY Shelly Duncan's brother.

He has options, so he's likely bound for the Bucket.

I don't really understand what motivation a team has to trade -- to give anything up -- for a DFA'ed player. It must be because they won't be first in line to grab him otherwise.

Time for the fucker to set some sort of offensive record. Jackass.

Actually, the more I think about it, a box of Duncan Hines would be pretty nice.

Heh, I just pictured Sandy Duncan playing shortstop!

More from Miklasz:
"Cardinals are not responsible for the $13.5 million that remains on Lugo's contract. Boston Red Sox are eating that money. The Red Sox just wanted to get something in return for Lugo."

Zen, St. Louis also grabbed up Joel Piniero after he was DFA'd and now he's one of their top starters. Maybe Lugo will turn it around in the Breadbasket.

Too bad they aren't taking his contract. I guess that would have been too good to be true. Duncan's had a couple of decent years. Maybe he will find his stroke again and if not, no big loss. Kudos to Epstein for swallowing his pride and dumping that bum, Lugo.
