Gonzalez went 3-for-5, and Ellsbury, Crawford, and Marco Scutaro each had two hits. AG and Crawford drove in two runs apiece, and Scutaro scored twice.
After enjoying a day off tomorrow, the Red Sox play three games at Camden Yards before heading home for 11 games against the Mariners (3), Angels (4), and Twins (4).

Follow-up to the post about the Smithsonian's painting of Pedro, I received an email from the artist, Susan Miller-Havens, who wanted to clear up any confusion about what Pedro is wearing in the painting.
She said she portrayed Martinez in a white Red Sox uniform, with a blue cap with a dark red "B". She removed the American League patch on his right sleeve and replaced it with the flag of the Dominican Republic.
Lackey has given up an extra-base hit to one out of every batters he had faced this year.

Okay let's talk serious about this painting. The "AL logo" thing says the picture used is from 2001 (100-yr anniversary). But after looking at shots of Pedro from various years, I found he only wore that unique style of sneaker in 1998, his first year in Boston. (The fact that it couldn't have been 2001 is also proven by the fact that this page says she did the painting in 2000.)
Her site says something about using a Michael Ponzini photo since she couldn't get the same good shots with her own camera "at Fenway." And she tells you it's the home white Sox uni. HOWEVER--I've looked at enough baseball card shots to know pics taken from the Yankee Stadium third base camera well to believe that's one of them. First of all, Pedro has a stripe on his sleeve in the painting. This is the ROAD uniform, not the home white as she says. The white uni has no sleeve stripe. Second, check all of Pedro's 1999 (photos from '98) Topps baseball cards (I use ebay for this). Ponzini was a Topps photographer so this is probably his work. In those shots, it's always Yankee Stadium, and Pedro has the same goatee and blue turtleneck with elbow-length sleeves as the painting. ( example, almost identical pose)(another example ) ( another which shows the shoes ) She did alter/tighten up Pedro's sleeve, which he always cut--you can see how wide it is in photos (or flapping in the wind in action shots).

(Which I guess could mean her painting in an amalgam. Because that one card I linked is very close, she could have made him face more to the side or whatever.)
It's a painting of Pedro. In order to not make Pedro sit for hours on end, the artist uses a photograph as a guide. But she is not painting a photograph.
I believe this is fairly standard for portrait painting. The idea is for the painting to represent the person in a way that people will admire, enjoy, appreciate and recognize, not to duplicate any particular photograph.
