An Unprecedented Accomplishment For The Pitching Staff

Something historic happened at Fenway Park last night.

Boston's pitching staff allowed only two runs. It was the 13th consecutive home game in which the Red Sox have allowed three or fewer runs, a new franchise record.
May 28 - Red Sox 4, Atlanta 0
May 29 - Red Sox 4, Atlanta 3
May 30 - Red Sox 3, Rays 2
May 31 - Red Sox 7, Rays 1
June 1 - Red Sox 4, Rays 0
June 12 - Red Sox 5, Cleveland 2
June 13 - Red Sox 10, Cleveland 3
June 14 - Cleveland 3, Red Sox 2
June 15 - Cleveland 3, Red Sox 2 (11)
June 16 - Red Sox 1, Twins 0
June 17 - Red Sox 2, Twins 1
June 18 - Red Sox 2, Twins 1 (10)
June 30 - Cubs 2, Red Sox 0
The previous record was 12: August 15-31, 1914 and August 3-16, 1915. ... Those two streaks remain the club's record for consecutive games, home or away.

Also: The Marlins became the first team in history to lose 5 or more 13+ inning games in one month:
6/6: Cubs 5-3 (11)
6/13: Pirates 8-6 (13)
6/16: Cubs 5-4 (13)
6/26: Phillies 5-3 (14)
6/28: A's 7-6 (14)

How crazy is it that the Sox scored more than three runs in less than half of those games? In those 13 games, Boston has averaged 3.5 runs per game while opponents have averaged 1.6 runs per game. If you eliminate the one "anomaly" (the 10-run outburst), the average drops to exactly three runs per game for the Sox.

This is a team that usually averages over five runs per game year after year... but not this year.

And they've also scored two runs or fewer in 7 straight home games. The record is 8 by the 1932 team, the worst in Red Sox history (43-111).
