As effective as he's been this year, he's still an unfinished product and he still has a lot of work to do. His further development will dictate when he arrives [in Boston]. ... I saw him last week at Portland and more than ever so before, he was getting early-count outs with his fastball and getting groundball outs, which allowed him to keep his pitch count down.Curt Schilling threw 55 pitches off of a mound today. ... Joel Pineiro was activated from the DL and Jeff Bailey was sent to Pawtucket. ... Brendan Donnelly will pitch an inning for Lowell (A) tonight.
David Ortiz phoned former hitting coach Ron “Papa Jack” Jackson a week ago.
We talked about hitting. He knows me a lot, you know what I’m saying? He saw some highlights of some of the games. He told me exactly what was wrong. He was telling me stuff about my hands. ... He noticed something. But the things he was telling me, so did Mags. I just listened better this time.Hideki Okajima says he voted for himself about 10 times in MLB's online election for the last ASG roster spot.

BDD has a long Q&A with Schilling here.
Snip:
BDD: One more quote from Gammons --"I mean he wanted a $13 million extension and didn't work out ... That has really impacted the way the team feels about Curt Schilling at this point. ... They way they took it, they felt that he was saying 'you know what, my video game business is far more important than winning the World Series.'"
Schill: In my opinion this is Peter conveying a message to me from someone that didn't want to say it to me directly. That or taking a huge stab in the dark, which he does quite often.
WEEI audio vault has Schillings last appearance. The WEEI guys played the Gammons tape and then talked to Schilling about that conversation.
Made for good radio and he repeated the stab in the dark comment along with some other Gammons quotes.

And despite the ballot-stuffing effort, Okajima didn't even get to pitch. I hope he didn't strain his pitching arm hitting reload -- last night wasn't his sharpest performance.

:-)
It was the best-case scenario. He got to go, felt the love, but didn't expend any pitches - better for us. Everyone wins.
Too bad Pawsox weren't IN Ottawa on Mon. It would be worth the drive up AND there'd be plenty of good seats available.
I just want to put this in here while I can. it's 6-5 toronto in the top of the 9th, and there is potential for an Ortiz walkoff coming up, and it looks like no one is signed up for that date. That would be sad, but PLEASE LET US WIN THIS GAME!
