Boston came right back with B2B solo shots of their own -- Manny and Yook -- but it wasn't enough. Several unsuccessful chances to score earlier in the game (singles from Lugo and DP to start the 1st, Pena on third with one out in the 5th, and two 2-on, 2-out situations) cost the Sox.

Daisuke Matsuzaka (3.79, 119 ERA+) / Scott Kazmir (4.02, 113 ERA+)
RedSox.com:
Last time out, Dice-K snapped a three-start slump by firing seven scoreless innings ... limiting Cleveland to four hits while fanning five. So far, he's held left-handed opponents to .208 hitting in his 21-game career.Dice and Red Dot faced each other at Fenway on July 3. Matsuzaka (8-4-0-1-9, 122) was superb in Boston's 4-1 win.
[Kazmir has] defeated Cy Young winners Roger Clemens (Yankees) and Bartolo Colon (Angels) in conseutive outings. During that 13-inning span, he's allowed just one earned run, seven hits and five walks, while fanning 13.
No time to look at the papers today. Any new trade rumors?

The Buzz talks about what a great fit Jermaine Dye would have been. Then it's like Oh by the way, the Sox would've had to give up HIDEKI OKAJIMA to get him. Imagine the proverbial street riots had that taken place.
Minor detail.
Just checked in with the game.
Lugo 6 pitch single
Pedroia 6 pitch single
then
Ortiz 1st pitch 463 DP
Manny 1st pitch 1-3.
Fuck the heck?!?!
mirabelli, wtf?
D-Rays announcer definitely just called Dice-K "Matsui"
Oh yeah, Dougie!
Going to watch NESN feed on good TV...probably will post randomly later.
And the first 2 Rays go on one pitch each.
Four straight batters -- 2 from each team -- out on four pitches.
Manny and David 1st pitch swinging! Probably has something to do with generally sucking vs Kazmir, coming into this game combined 9 for 60, ugly!
Nice escape there!!! How bad are the Rays, the strand the lead off double.

Not sure if I'd gloat too much, since Orsillo saying "... and the Red Sox strand a pair" is part of the DO Drinking Game.
MFY load the bases with no outs in the top of the 1st on 2 walks and a single, but get only one run:
Slappy K
Shemp F9 SAC
Cano 4-3
No gloat intended!
Doubles by Phillips and Milk Dud make it 2-0 in the 2nd.
Youk turns two !!! YOUUUUUUK!!!
Padres got 11 runs in the top of the 1st in Houston.
Jason Jennings:
.2 IP, 8 H, 3 BB, 11 ER, 39 pitches
Ouch.
Joe Castig says that is the 5th sacrifice for Belli, first since 2001!
speaking of stranding a leadoff double ... grrrrr
His other 3 were with the Giants in 2000. 2001 with Sox.
Would you score some RUNS for Dice!!!
Another grinder and I sit here wondering why they couldn't make a deal for Dye?
MFY 4-2
The Rays' announcers are just "dandy". And if you're suffering through FSN Florida, you know exactly what I mean.
They described 'Belli, with no trace of sarcasm, as an 'adept' bunter.
Stud Who Hits Sacrifices?
We need a hit, just one hit while RISP, then we can follow the tried and true of Delcarmen in the 7th, Jeemer in the 8th and bot in the 9th!
Figures, wasted chances and then Daisuke gives up the solo!
I really don't see what the attraction is for Dye. Fairly non-distinct outside of 2000 and 2006.
Decent field, decent pop with the bat, good arm.

Isn't that JD Drew
Oh, yeah is also comfortable in the AL as opposed to Drew!
F***
double F***
Jesus. I go away for 5 minutes, the whole game falls apart.
Time to get the bats in gear.
terribly frustrating
MFY 4-3 top of eighth
Oh, well, even with this loss, a 5 and 2 road trip is pretty easy to swallow.
Altogether now:
"Who cares? We've got an eight-game lead!"
(... if the MFY hold on & win)

My favourite song.
I missed the game today. I see it's going to be hard to follow games at this new job. I guess I'd better quit.
