SoSH:

Trlicek's Whip, Oct. 29, 2009, 10:38 AM:

"Who's Your Daddy?" + "1918" chants = hearing the Baha Men's "Who Let The Dogs Out?" at a wedding.

"Yankees Suck" = like Sinatra's "The Way You Look Tonight" or The Beatles' "In My Life." TIMELESS.

It's simpler than that though.

One is no longer factually true, and the other is (and will always be) a reality.

Fact: The Red Sox, with Pedro Martinez on the roster, beat the Yankees on their way to winning a World Series in 2004.

Fact: The Yankees suck. They suck as people, they suck as men of honor. It is a group of assholes run by assholes that is funded by a bunch of assholes. In one fetid ball of Bronx bullshit the Yankees culture of suck collectively represents all that is worst in American culture, nee humanity: gluttony, arrogance, pride, vanity, stupidity, selfishness, and an unwavering inability to display a modicum of self awareness.

Suck, thy name is Yankees.

I feel their passion. I can't believe all of us rational people have such insane obsessions over sports.

When you step back, or view it through an outsiders' eyes, it really is unbelievable! Especially for those of us who are not nationalistic or tribal in other ways, who reject that kind of stuff politically and socially. Yet we identify with our sports tribes to an alarming degree.

Maybe that's why I often insist on truth-telling, why I'll get into it with a Sox fan who portrays all NYY fans as assholes and all Sox fans as super-fans - just to be a little less fascist!
