Dice Feeling No Pain

Daisuke Matsuzaka made 25 tosses from 60 feet and another 25 from 90 feet on Monday and said he felt no pain or discomfort.

Mike Lowell arrived in camp and talked with the media: "I can't imagine I'm not on the trading block ... [but] Nobody should feel sorry for me."

Asked what kind of shape he's in for the new season, David Ortiz said: "You've got to see me naked." Re Flo, Gordon Edes presents two sets of numbers (June 1 to end of 2009 season):
Player A: 23 HR, 83 RBI, .292 AVG, .400 OBP, .520 SLG
Player B: 27 HR, 81 RBI, .264 AVG, .356 OBP, .548 SLG

I love you Papi, but no thanks.

Seems obvious B is Ortiz.

Without looking, I'm guessing A-hole.

I don't understand Papi, saying people gave up on him, in my opinion the fans , his teammates, and his manger stuck with him. With a terrible slump and a steroid controversey...People still rooted for him and he still played...He should just be grateful, the same we are grateful he plays for us...seems like sour grapes, maybe he is just using it for motivation...

I'm very optimistic about Ortiz, but I'm also very, very worried about him. It seems unrealistic to expect him to hit for the average he did back in 04-07, but if he's still got the power and patience he'll be a very good player. But when he's not hitting for power or average, obviously he's not a very helpful player. I suspect we'll see a year a little better than last year, maybe .250/.350/.500. Good but not great.

A is A-Rod.

You are supposed to read the article to get the answer....

Yeah, I just thought since a day had gone by, for those who weren't going to read the article that I'd say so.

I hope for a little better than the line James suggested. A good-but-not-great DH for us, probably on his downside. In a way it would be more painful if he does a little better than that because of the problem of resigning him for 2011. If he doesn't do well enough for his option ($12.5m) to make sense, then offering him a one-year deal for less would be awkward. He could probably get two years somewhere in that case.

Wouldn't it be great to freeze him in place at 2006-7?

I hear some guy on the Dodgers is looking to be a DH next year...

I'm not optimistic about Papi.. it's been two years of cringing with every Papi strike out. He was the guy you wanted up there for pressure situations and power. Now he's hitting better than the number 8 hitter. When your job is DH, that should be amazing average or onbase or power and none of those were true in the last two years. My patience is gone for Papi, it might be lack of Manny or Steroids but he's just not the same. Injuries are gone so he better have an amazing spring otherwise let Lowell be the DH.

Even with his shitty April and May, Flo still pretty much matched Lowell in OBP and SLG in 2009. And as shown in an above post, he was hitting at an A-Rod level for the other four months.

Ortiz struck out 134 times in 2009 which does seem A-rodish.. there were more holes in Papi's swing then block of swiss cheese. He just didn't seem to come through in any pressure situation in the games I watched.
