Playing Pepper - 10 Questions

Daniel Shoptaw at C70 (and Head BBA Guy) asked me and two other Red Sox bloggers 10 questions about 2010:
How was the off-season? What kind of grade would you give it?

What is the key to success for 2010?

What will be the team's strength?

What could be their Achilles' heel?

Who will be the team's MVP?

Will a rookie make a significant impact on the team in 2010, and if so, who?

Who will be the breakout player for the team?

Which player will drop off the most from 2009?

Who is the most likely player to be dangled as trade bait?

What will be the team's final record and divisional standing?
You can read our responses here. Feel free to opine.

Were you in a hurry?

I feel as though if had asked why about Marco.....you would have said .."because".....:}

you certainly did eschew verbosity.

98-64, 1st in East.

I'm down with that.

I'm not sure if you think the Sox should have committed the money for Bay or Holliday.

A man of few words.

(Is that why you like DFW - opposites attract?)

good knowledgeable answers...

I think that the sox will manufacture runs with some small ball. Cameron, Scutaro, Pedroia, Yuke and Ellsbury will take the stolen base lead as a team. Even Drew can steal bases if he doesn't pull a hamstring or injure his arm or his back...etc. Sexy is the no longer the long ball but the stolen base. Could give Victor, Drew and Ortiz more fastballs to crush.

Yuke will be crushing fastballs, and not stealing bases, me thinks.

Nothing wrong with being right to the point, he didn't ask you to write a book:)

98 wins, really? I hope your right but could you send some of your kool Aid just to be safe?

I think we'd all feel a little better about the hitting if Flo returns to form for a whole season.

I was given no direction as to word length!

Why Scutaro?
Because he had a career year in 2009 (at age 33) and will likely not repeat it. Like I said, no one on the 09 Sox played so far over his head that we should expect a regression.

Big $?
I'm cool with how things went.

98 wins?
We had 95 last year and have clearly improved both the rotation and fielding and taken what I maintain is a small hit to the offense.

No big bopper?
Fuck home runs. They are rally killers. We'll OBP and double 'em to death.

Agree -- but I think the Division is going to be tougher, with Baltimore and Tampa claiming more wins. I doubt anyone will get 98 wins this year (unless everything goes near perfectly for the Yankees again).

"Fuck home runs. They are rally killers" Love it. I want these words on my tombstone.

... and you can put that on my tombstone!
