The Red Sox have acquired Rays right-hander Nathan Eovaldi in exchange for minor league pitcher Jalen Beeks.
Eovaldi, 28, had a 4.26 ERA in 10 starts for Tampa Bay, after missing the 2017 season recovering from Tommy John surgery. In 57 innings, he has a solid 8/53 BB/K ratio. He has allowed 11 home runs in only 57 innings, but (a) four of them came in one game against the Astros and (b) he has given up just three dongs in his last five starts (27.2 IP). Then again, his 1.7 HR/9 this year is exactly what he allowed in 2016 (23 in 124.2 IP).
The trade occurred a few hours before Eovaldi was set to pitch this afternoon against the Yankees. He will be a free agent at the end of this season.
