Apparently, he actually did play baseball (mediocrely, though not to hear him tell it...) a tthe military academy. Much as I loathe him (and 'loathe' barely skims the surface(, as a fellow septuagenarian who has lost several yards off his fastball, I actually sympathize with his expression.
OTOH, the ball was probably thrown by some eastcoast liberal anarchist journo.
