Linescore Of The Day

Yesterday in Atlanta:
Marlins - 001 000 020 4 - 7 9 3
Braves - 010 000 200 5 - 8 10 0
According to Elias, it was the first time in franchise history (since 1876!) that the Braves had won a game in which they trailed by four or more runs during extra innings. Since 1981, there have been only two other games in which the winning team rebounded from a deficit of at least four runs in the 10th inning or later.

April 21, 1991
Cubs - 000 003 040 05 - 12 13 0
Pirates - 000 020 041 06 - 13 13 1
September 18, 2004
Tigers - 002 101 000 400 - 8 10 0
White Sox - 100 030 000 401 - 9 12 1

Going into that April series, the Cubs were ahead of the Bucs. That incredible comeback (Heathcliff Slocumb, whose real name is just Heath, I just found out, started the bottom of the eleventh for the Cubs) to cap off a 3-out-of-4 series win put Pittsburgh atop the NL East. They'd go on to win 11 of their next 15 and win the NL East going away.

The Cubs would lose 5 of their next 7, and never recover, finishing 20 games behind the Pirates that year.

This is all from memory... I swear.

Serious? He calls himself Heathcliff because his grandmother was a big fan of Wuthering Heights?

Don't tell me his father's name was Ffilchtaeh?

Or Heathcliff Huxtable.

From baseball-almanac.com:

Birth Name: Heath Slocumb
Nickname: Heathcliff

That really is weird. To have it backwards like that.
