G96: Red Sox 7, Orioles 2

Orioles - 000 200 000 - 2 10 0
Red Sox - 310 100 02x - 7 10 1
David Ortiz clubbed a three-run home run to dead center in the first and Adam LaRoche went the other way in the eighth for a two-run Monster dong to lead Boston to victory. Lester (7.1-8-2-2-9, 109) had another strong outing and the Red Sox are now 1.5 GB in the East.

Other good hitting news: Jacoby Ellsbury had two doubles and two RBI and Jason Bay singled, doubled and walked. Daniel Bard (.2 IP) and Ramon Ramirez (1 IP), both of whom have had little work since the break, finished up for Lester.
Jeremy Guthrie (5.12, 89 ERA+) / Jon Lester (3.87, 120 ERA+)

Adam LaRoche will likely get his first start in a Red Sox uniform tonight.

[Update: He's at first base, batting 7th, wearing #23. However, Kevin Youkilis has the night off, so Mike Lowell remains at third.]

LaRoche, on his expected playing time:
I've talked with Tito a little bit, but we haven't discussed whether it's going to be a platoon situation, or once a week, or never, or every day. I have no idea. I told Tito that I'm pretty easy, and I'm not going to complain much. You tell me when you want me to play, and I'll be out there.
And:
To come over and play for this club and have a chance to move forward in the playoffs is something that, when it happened my first two years in Atlanta [2004-05], I think I took it for granted. We haven't been anywhere close the last few years with Pittsburgh. I can handle not playing as much if we have a chance to play in October.
Lester has allowed three earned runs or fewer in each of his past nine starts. He has not allowed an earned run to the Orioles this year: seven shutout inning on both April 19 and June 29. ... Guthrie has given up 22 home runs this year, the most in the American League; he's actually tied with Joe Saunders. ... In five games since returning from the DL, Mike Lowell has hit .412 (7-for-17).

Also: A's/Yankees at 1 PM.

So weird to see the skydome packed like it is, with people actually into whats going on on the field.

WTF....ESPN Classic is infuriating.

After the 5th of the above mentioned world series game i was watching they switched to tennis! How can live tennis be "classic"?!

The ESPN2 channel which says tennis is on...is showing NASCAR....what the hell is wrong with this company. Ugh. All I wanted to see was Joe's walk off blast.

SoSH was calling him Mr. 27 (maybe Capt. 27), but it didn't really stick.

Because he also hasn't delivered a 27th championship since he got signed to a multiyear contract.

27th out, that is.

I was the first one to mention 27?
That can't be.

Benjamin said...

Jays and FKR both sac bunting in extra innings. Negative WPA and all.

Benjamin said...

Probably not. They just haven't imported the game threads pre-September-2005.

Benjamin said...

Jays and FKR have combined for 15 LOB.

Benjamin said...

But since you're the one who's been beating the Mr. 27 drum for the past four years, it's possible it was yours to begin with.

tim said...

Yeah, I was thinking "WTF" when each team was sac bunting...also funny that Aybar has the highest WPA of any player and he was removed from the game.

redsock said...

That seems low for 10 innings.

tim said...

And lolz to the jays win% being 99.7% when they went up 9-1.

Don't think that beats ours from ALCS-5 last year - wasn't that one 99.8?

Nick Markakis, RF
Adam Jones, CF
Aubrey Huff, DH

Down by a run, the Jays are still bunting.

After the sac bunt, the next two Jays walk. Completely unnecessary bunt.

Benjamin said...

Jays lose.

It's annoying as shit, but I should be able to adapt!

Hi, all. Going to get ice cream, but will be back.

Laura, I think if you cannot sell the ticket, each of us should chip in a few bucks and share the cost since you guys should not get stuck covering the loss just because you organized the event. With 20+ of us, at $4 a head we can cover the cost (even if some cannot contribute). I am more than happy to contribute. But I am also sure we will be able to find a taker outside the park, if worse comes to worse.

L-girl said...

thx!

That's gonna take a big bite out of Emma's allowance.

Amy, that is very nice of you. I wouldn't ask - but honestly, I'm in no position to turn it down.

I'm not sure we'd have time to sell it at the park. Does anyone know how their legal re-sale thing works?

L-girl said...

We can exempt Emma :)

Amy said...

We will give Emma and Maddy a waiver. Maddy just got laid off so she has no $ to spare. :( But Harvey and I can cover her contribution.

L-girl said...

[My "thx!" was for the zip code.]

I have to do some work. Later.

Kevin said...

redsock said...

I can't find anything on the Red Sox site about reselling tix.

If everyone with money chips in $5, that's not alot, they can just consider it part of the cost of the ticket and you guys should recover most of the $75...that's 15 people...should be do-able...

tim said...

The court issued an injunction prohibiting Boston Police from "attempting to arrest, threatening to arrest, arresting, and prosecuting any person who attempts to resell or resells any ticket to a Boston Red Sox baseball game in the vicinity of Fenway Park, at or below the face value of the ticket, unless they have probable cause, at the time of arrest, to believe that said person is a person engaged in the business of reselling tickets, and is not duly licensed as required by Mass. Gen. Laws ch. 140, § 185A."

A former Attorney General said, "You can resell your extra tickets as long as you sell it for face value. The Attorney General's Office, the Department of Public Safety, and courts in Massachusetts have made it clear that the ticket-resale law in Massachusetts penalizes only those engaging in the business of reselling tickets. It is the occupation and not an isolated act which is forbidden."

Actually just as I told you lot the problem was fixed (which was fixed 6 hours ago) IT'S BACK.

I have a cursor/video pause where sometimes the video on the computer, I say video meaning anything moving, will pause every second intermittently. When I open a program things will slow down further and sort of get bogged down. The visual aspect of things.

The audio is also affected but not as much. When I open a program the audio will get hiccup-y and bogged down. Sometimes it'll pause with the video but usually not.

I thought the problem was my sound blaster. I unplugged it, restarted and everything was good! Then all of a sudden just now, not so much!

Scalp-free zone:
"if you've never done this, you go and wait in line. Sellers speak with a Sox employee, then the employee goes down the line offering the tix. You can pass on tix you don't want. Note that as soon as you buy tix you have to enter the park, so you all have to be there. (This is to ensure you don't buy tix at face and then go scalp them yourself!)"

So I assume that as a seller, you just go there and talk to an employee.

The Scalp Free Zone at Fenway Park — home of the Boston Red Sox — may be one of the best kept secrets in the city of Boston. This Scalp Free Zone is exactly how it reads, a location to purchase Red Sox tickets at face value from fans, rather than from scalpers. The Scalp Free Zone is located near Gate B, behind the center field bleachers on the corner of Van Ness and Ipswich near the Ted Williams statue.

Anxious Red Sox fans can line up just before, or at game time and see if anyone with tickets, entering the park has extra tickets for sale at face value. If they do, there is a Red Sox employee standing by to broker a face-value deal between the buyer and seller. No scalping, no jacking up the price. Face value or lower, that’s the agreement. A second stipulation is that buyers must enter the park immediatoely upon brokering the deal to prevent resales. There are no guarantees that folks will get tickets here every time, but I’ve had my luck at the Scalp Free Zone and can attest that it’s a good alternative for getting last minute tickets.

Those who want the tickets line up. I’ve seen anywhere from 4 or 5 to dozens waiting. If you have an extra ticket, you have to go to the staff who’s working the scalp free zone. They will take your ticket and ask everyone in line, in order, if they are interested. Often times, since extra tickets tend to be expensive, this is a big of a negotiation, but usually, someone in the line is willing to pay face value. The buyer hands cash over to the staff, and they send it back to you. The catch is that once you buy a ticket, you have to immediately go into the game to make sure you aren’t going to try to sell it to someone else for a quick profit. That’s it! Thanks for that info, Benjamin. I'll try that if necessary.

I don't have enough memory (512) but this problem has happened when I wasn't at 100% or near there.

I'm thinking a hardware issue. I'm hoping it is. The problem is it'll be fine for a little while when I reformat and such, and when I unplugged my sound blaster, then it just randomly comes back.

Nice. How does Lester look? Do you think he'll be out to at least start the 8th?

Sid at 100.

Last 3 starts: 122, 115, 112

Everything else seems to slow down too when it does this. But I don't understand why it RANDOMLY starts doing it and doesn't stop. Everything works perfectly then boof.

He's at 100 pitches, so I could see Francona trying to steal another out or two, especially if we get more outs. The two runs were cheap crap.

maybe -- and give bard (who was up) the 9th. keep bot for tomorrow after 24 pitches last night
