Pedro Martinez makes his first post-season start this afternoon since throwing seven shutout innings in Game 3 of the 2004 World Series for the Red Sox.
Pedro gets the ball for the Phillies in NLCS 2 (4 PM) at Dodgers Stadium. However, Martinez has had only seven innings of work since September 13 (starts on September 19 and 30) and a simulated game on Tuesday did not go well.
Philadelphia won NLCS 1 8-6 last night.
The Angels and Yankees begin the ALCS tonight -- Lackey/Sabathia -- at 8 PM in New York. The Red Sox will meet with 18-year-old Japanese pitcher Yusei Kikuchi next Monday. Kikucki will also talk with representatives from the Dodgers, Rangers, Giants, Yankees, Mets and Mariners next week.

Ronan Tynan won't be singing a 55-minute version of GBA at the Tidy Bowl tonight. Why?
He's not fond of Jews, apparently:
The trouble began on Thursday when the 49-year-old Tynan bumped into a Halstead Property real estate agent showing an apartment on his floor to a potential buyer ...
The real estate agent said to the tenor, famous for his association with Yankees, "Don't worry they are not Red Sox fans." ...
"I don't care about that, as long as they are not Jewish."

Teammates Fully Support Jonathan Papelbon's Claim That Playoff Loss Was His Fault
http://www.theonion.com/content/news_briefs/teammates_fully_support?utm_source=onion_rss_daily
BOSTON—Every member of the Boston Red Sox stood behind teammate Jonathan Papelbon during clubhouse interviews Sunday, vociferously defending the embattled reliever's assertion that the team's first-round sweep by the Angels was entirely his fault. "Pap is one of the best in the game, and if he says he single-handedly blew the series, then I'm with him," said second baseman Dustin Pedroia, who agreed that the closer's Game 3 ninth-inning meltdown was "100 percent on Papelbon." "Sometimes you have a bad day, and sometimes that bad day ruins an entire year's worth of work in the blink of an eye. I'm happy to go to war with a man who knows when he fails so totally and completely." Though Papelbon expressed appreciation for his teammates' backing, he did mention that he never actually said anything like that.
NYT: "Just one game into the NLCS, [Joe Torre] has already made three mystifying choices."
Cheers to the Times "Bats" blog for using progressive stats.
PHI: 00
LAD: 00
Pedro: 6 up, 6 down, 25 pitches
1: F7, P6, P4
2: PF3, 3-1, F9
Fucking TBS asshats on the MBM-Train today. Get a life, fuckholes.
Yay, Pedro! I don't really care who wins the series, but I am happy that Pedro is ahead and still in the game after six innings!!
And screw you, Tynan. What an asshole. Not that I am surprised....
And happy birthday, Allan!!

I put Amy's comment thru moderation, but I didn't understand the reference. (Who is Tynan and why is Amy cursing at him?)
Wow! How does he bring himself to step foot in YS, as full of Jews as it usually is.
Fuck that! Another excellent reason to hate that GBA blowhard.
Buck: "He sure does, Ron..."
Glad I'm not drinking.
I just checked out the story. I love how people make these blatantly bigoted remarks then claim they were joking. What else can they say when they are caught red-handed? IDIOTS.
Pedro makes it through a seven inning shut out!
And also---did you notice that Tynan's best friends are Jews? Why do people think that proves something?

That's a very good question. People use that trope constantly to prove their own lack of bigotry, and chances are they believe it. Yet it means nothing.
Similarly, people believe they can't be racist if they're African American, can't be sexist if they're women, can't be anti-Semitic if they're Jewish, and none of that is true.
Interesting question to ponder. I will pour myself a glass of wine and ponder it. :)
Yay Pedro!!!
The most important question is:
Does he let Jews use his bathroom?
Pedro: 7-2-0-0-3, 87
And the Phils pen promptly allows a run. Now 1-1.
Bases-loaded BB: LA 2-1.
Way to go, Phillies.
Manny up with bases loaded.
5th Phillies pitcher of the inning coming in.
Manny Being Nomar: 1st pitch popup to SS to end the inning.
Phils need a run in the top 9th.
Dodgers win! Series tied 1-1.
Perfect outcome, Pedro does great, Dodgers win.
Right there with you guys. It went exactly how I drew it up. 7 brilliant innings from Pedro, then the Phillies bullpen blows it.
Good stuff! Good game.
wow - moronic 3-0 hack by teix.
Why the fuck was pedro pulled at 87? I don't care if he had to bat, he was cruising, could've had a CG easily.
Manuel is a fucking tool.
Tina Strobos is the anti-Tynan.
Visions of Grady? He came off the field like he knew he was done.
Visions of Grady?
Today is the sixth anniversary of the worst managerial decision in baseball history.
At least a lot of good has happened since then, but that is a hard night to relive.
