Ellsbury Headed Back To Boston For MRI

Jacoby Ellsbury collided with Rangers pitcher Tommy Hunter at first base on the first play of the game on Friday night and tumbled to the ground, landing on his left side.Ellsbury left the game in the middle of the fourth inning and the Globe's Peter Abraham writes that "it sounds like a possible return to the DL" as Ellsbury heads back to Boston on Saturday for an MRI.

Terry Francona:
Unfortunately he managed to fall right on the same spot. It's very concerning. The exam that [head athletic trainer Mike Reinold] did, it was very concerning. We'll get him looked as as quickly as we can so we can try and make a decision going forward.
Tito said LBJ was going to see Dr. Lewis Yocum in California, but that is wrong, apparently.

Since returning from the disabled list on August 4, Ellsbury is hitting .118 (4-for-34) in nine games. In 18 games this season, Ellsbury is batting .192 with an OPS+ around 30.

Also: Victor Martinez fouled a ball off his right foot in the top of the 11th. The trainer came out for a few minutes and Victor finished the at-bat. What else? ... Oh! Everyone on the 25-man roster went blind and their right arms fell off. Keep the faith!

During the game, Abraham posted this snarky, dickish comment at Extra Bases:

Ellsbury update

The official report on Ellsbury: Left side pain.

The unofficial report is up to you. But it sure looks bad that he took himself out of the game. I'm sure we'll get a full report in two months after he gets back from Arizona and gets his statement written.

it seems as though no one likes the kid, that's unfortunate...
Ellsbury gets ripped, but are high priced arrogant Texan gets a free pass , because he cusses alot and snarls at people, I guess

I actually felt bad for Wake last night, I haven't seen him pitch in so long then he gets thrown in that shit storm....

What's more, think about the implications of a journalist saying the story is "up to you".

Is Abraham admitting his utter irrelevance? Admitting he makes shit up, writes lies and gossip and innuendo, rather than reports facts?

Ellsbury, after the game:

"I just landed on my side and back and got that sharp pain in there. I tried to play through it. ... I didn't want to come out of the game. That was the biggest thing. Tito and I talked, and he took me out. We'll get it looked at tomorrow. I really don't want to compare it (to the previous injury). We'll keep our fingers crossed and try to be optimistic about it."

And then there were the guys who made Abe look classy today -- http://www.bostonsportsmedia.com/2010/08/gresh-and-zo-weigh-in-on-jacoby

Remind me to never, ever listen to, watch, or read anything they EVER do again.

What say we take up a collection and hire a goon to crack five ribs on each guy, then put them through Ellsbury's rehab workout -- and post the videos online?

I'm in for $50.

Sean McAdam, Twitter, answering the question "Is there a reason he can't get an MRI in Texas?":

RedSox want own doctors looking at him, especially after all that's gone on.
