G111: Yankees 5, Red Sox 2

Red Sox - 020 000 000 - 2 6 2
Yankees - 020 021 00x - 5 8 1
Boston took an early lead on a home run by Victor Martinez and back-to-back doubles by Adrian Beltre and Mike Lowell, but Lackey (6-8-5-3-7, 116) gave it right back and then wilted in the middle innings.

Handed a 2-0 lead, Lackey walked Lance Berkman and gave up a triple to Curtis Granderson, who later scored on a groundout. After getting two outs in the fifth, Lackey allowed four consecutive singles, and two runs. Two more singles, a stolen base and a throwing error gave New York its fifth run.

Sabathia (8-6-2-1-4, 101) settled down after the second. Over the final seven innings against CC and Mariano Rivera, Boston managed only four baserunners (two singles, one walk, and one ROE) and no one advanced past first base.

The Blue Jays scored in each of the first seven innings and beat the Rays 17-11. All nine hits allowed by FKR starter James Shields were for extra bases: 3 doubles and 6 home runs. Tampa Bay has lost four games in a row and is 1.5 GB New York. Boston is back to 6 GB.

Not going to cheer over anyone's getting hurt, not even him. But I'll take it.

Between that and if the Yanks lose today when they seem to have the advantage in the pitching matchup, there could be some real feelings of anxiety in New York today.

In the meantime, in Toronto, James Shields is getting a real rogering from that HR machine known as the Blue Jays. 6-2 in the third.

Small Game James for the Rays.

HR #5 for the Jays.

ELAINE: Did you have fun?

GEORGE AND KRAMER: Yeah.

KRAMER: For a little while.

ELAINE: Where's Tony?

GEORGE: Oh..

KRAMER: Huh..

GEORGE: Kramer was supposed to tie a knot.

KRAMER: Whoa, ginga, you were supposed to tie the knot.

ELAINE: Did something happened?

GEORGE: Tony ... took a bit of a tumble.

ELAINE: His face! Did something happen to his face?

KRAMER: Well, it all depends on what you mean by ... happen.

GEORGE: He ... he's alive.

KRAMER: Yeah.

ELAINE: What happened to his face, tell me, what happened to his face!!

GEORGE: You see, he slipped, and he landed on a kinda of a ...

KRAMER: Rock.

GEORGE: Yeah ... the ambulance got there very quickly.

KRAMER: Some big rock.

It's an Allan Disaster in the eighth inning for Toronto!

On their way to scoring in every frame (it's TOR 17, TB 7), Toronto puts two men on with no outs, but a DP and a groundout does them in.

10 HR for Toronto. Some new guy named Arencibia with two.

I can't thread today, but I am SO happy to be able to listen to the whole game. Go Sox Go!

laura k said...

Totally set you up for the Seinfeld.

McCarver: "I think the word gritty is used sometimes to describe baseball players ..."

allan said...

KI.

laura k said...

Radio guys ragging on A-Rod. Saying "we don't want to make fun of him" but doing so.

Kathryn said...

Hey Everyone,

I'll be threading sporadically.

What was that Scutaro???

Sorry I missed last night. We watched the game, though. We have college friends in for the weekend to celebrate my husband's 50th birthday.

allan said...

McMoron fellating the MFY. Yeah sure they spend a lot of money, but no one talks about their grit and determination.

Amy said...

Hey, I am enjoying this game so far!

meunier said...

The Dr. is in...

allan said...

L's sister is a good luck charm for us, it seems. She was there last night and is there today. (Also going Sunday.)

Rob said...

What's this widescreen shit on my TV? This is not a DVD, FOX, give me my whole fuckin TV back. This isn't FOX News (who does the same thing. NOT ALL OF US HAVE HD, assholes.)

Amy said...

Can we sign up Laura's sister for the rest of the season?

allan said...

she needs to go on a road trip or three.

Amy said...

Lackey, stop walking these guys!

allan said...

... fuckin' lackey and his walks.

Amy said...

Shit, I knew Lackey's luck wouldn't last.

allan said...

looks like that hit off the top of the fence. i'd say we caught a break, but lackey will let him score anyway, so it might as well have been a dong.

Amy said...

OK, I am going to pull a SoSock and take a shower. Too sandy from the beach.

laura k said...

So my sister is a reverse good luck charm? That's perfect.

allan said...

strike 3 to flo was outside.

Lord Lynch said...

Hello There!

allan said...

but swisher's K was on the corner. so fuck you, nick.

Amy said...

OK, all squeaky clean. I see the score is unchanged. That's ok.

Hi, Lord!

Lord Lynch said...

I have an almost pathologically warped hatred of Nick Swisher. Chuckles the Clown, with an almost unfathomable sense of self worth. Despicable.

allan said...

Small Game allowed 7 dongs to the Jays in 4 innings!

Lord Lynch said...

James Shields coughed up 7 homers???? That's Big Game all right...

Amy said...

So my sister is a reverse good luck charm? That's perfect.

Well, reverse good luck charm for the Yankees, good luck for us!

Nothing personal against your sister, of course. :)

allan said...

Looks like SG allowe donly 6 dongs.

Shields became the 8th pitcher since 1900 to surrender at least 6 HR in an outing.

Jays rookie catcher J.P. Arencibia went 4-for-5 with two home runs in his MLB debut. He hit the first pitch of his career to left for a two-run blast.

allan said...

Hey Lord!

I have an almost pathologically warped hatred of Nick Swisher. Chuckles the Clown, with an almost unfathomable sense of self worth.

Swisher is a 1st class shithead, but I'll put Joba in that special category for me.

laura k said...

Well, reverse good luck charm for the Yankees, good luck for us!

yes, that's what i meant! i have (uncalled for, unreasonable) irritation over her new fan-ness, so i don't mind nyy losing when she's there.

laura k said...

Lost in that Jays score is that they allowed 11 runs - probably normally a loss against the Rays.

Lord Lynch said...

It's the chuckles grin. Makes Evan Longoria look miserable.

The wife has left me (alone downstairs). She went upstairs claiming I am obnoxious when the Sox play the MFYs!

allan said...

that was not across his body at all. it was a backhand, but on his right side. and yet mccarver does not correct himself.

i hate when announcers say X, then the replay shows Y while they say again "see, there is X".

Amy said...

I think I love Beltre.

Are we going to re-sign him?

Amy said...

Lord, Harvey seems unable to watch these games at all with me in the room. I guess I must be obnoxious also, even though I am being very quiet.

allan said...

the chin has retired 10 of 11 since the triple.

laura k said...

She went upstairs claiming I am obnoxious when the Sox play the MFYs!

The nerve!

Lord Lynch said...

Well, Amy, I was unleashing my lexicon of colourful language at Chuckles.

allan said...

Are we going to re-sign him?

Depends what he wants. I would imagine with his stats that another team would overpay in years and $ over what would be wise.

Amy said...

i don't mind nyy losing when she's there.

I assume you don't mind them losing even if she isn't there! :)

What's with her new love for the Yankees? Was she a fan at all before, or is this all new?

Amy said...

Harv was all pissy about me thinking ARod's injury was a good thing.

I hope we do re-sign him. But money talks... (I find it annoying that re-sign and resign can mean the opposite of each other.)

Lord Lynch said...

Ola Pena! Hot Stuff!

Rick (f/k/a westcoastsox) said...

17-11 in the TOR game? I was just thinking about running out to the 17-11.

laura k said...

My sister has always been a nominal NYY fan, she goes back a long way with them, but has never been a huge baseball fan. Pays attention in September and October, goes to a game or two a year.

She rooted for the Sox in 2004, like millions of New Yorkers who didn't have strong allegiances, she got sucked into the comeback.

Beginning last season, she got much more into baseball. For some inexplicable reason, I find this irritating. I should not, but I do!

Amy said...

Siblings can annoy us in all kinds of mysterious ways.

Lord Lynch said...

took a third strike last night!

Lord Lynch said...

Breathe in..... Breathe out.....

Breathe in..... Breathe out.....

Chuckles is up.

Amy said...

Lord, you can curse all you want here. Your wife won't hear.

Amy said...

Come on, Lackey.

Amy said...

SHIT.

meunier said...

Well that made my headache worse

laura k said...

Dear John Lackey,

You suck.

Sincerely,

allan said...

thanks for getting that 3rd out, asshole.

Lord Lynch said...

That's the sound of the wheels falling off Lackey's wagon.

allan said...

dumbo is stealing .... jesus

Amy said...

And so it goes.

Amy said...

I truly do not like Lackey.

Lord Lynch said...

Have Dice-K and Lackey negotiated with Hollywood to do a baseball remake of the classic "Face/Off"? Is this Dice-K I see before me?

allan said...

lackey just looked at some video. some of those singles were not singles. so we're cool.

Amy said...

Can we please get back these runs?

Harvey happier, me not.

allan said...

flo uncorking some fine whine.

Rob said...

Nice call, fuckface.

meunier said...

Papi is really getting screwed by this ump

Lord Lynch said...

They're awfully not McCarver....

Amy said...

How small is Papi's strike zone? Was he part of that study?

allan said...

tiz getting fucked, but good.

meunier said...

There we go man on..

allan said...

of course mccarver thinks the calls were good. he's also saying a fielder went across his body when he catches the ball on his glove side.

allan said...

next, mcacrver will start insisting there is a tornado in left field.

meunier said...

It seems that every game that Victor scores in he also gives away a run.

allan said...

and no similar strike call for lackey.

fuck you ump

meunier said...

This all figures..

laura k said...

It seems that every game that Victor scores in he also gives away a run.

No way that holds up to scrutiny.

Benjamin said...

Nice hug, Scutaro.

Amy said...

This game is officially no longer fun.

allan said...

lackey sucks in throwing the ball in any direction.

allan said...

interesting catch.

Amy said...

Nice catch!

Amy said...

Got to go to friends' house for dinner. Hope we get these runs back.

GO SOX!

allan said...

time to hit

allan said...

Lane is wearing a mic?
Play the Ortiz AB.

allan said...

is hall feeling dongish?

allan said...

i hate joe buck.

laura k said...

I'm in the mood for a comeback.

laura k said...

But apparently the Sox don't care about my mood. Come on guys. It's getting late.

Zenslinger said...

Well, no complaints about MDC or Doubront.

allan said...

sox bats vs fruitbat

allan said...

millared it. c'mon vic

allan said...

wow - those steinbrenner stickers on their shirts are tacky.

allan said...

well, that was quick.

laura k said...

Drinkable water. Oh well. Win tomorrow, pls.

allan said...

The team with the favourable pitching match-up has won the first two games. We have the edge tomorrow and Monday.
